Red Dead games get surprise price hike amid next-gen patch and GTA 6 pricing rumors

Source: Rockstar Games Rockstar Games has quietly hiked the digital prices of Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 in some regions, fueling gossip about the company's overall pricing strategy. With rumors circulating over a next-gen patch for RDR2 and growing expectations for GTA 6, fans are starting to wonder if Rockstar is positioning itself for even higher prices on subsequent releases. Red Dead prices surge unexpectedly across several regions The initial indication of the price increase was seen in Brazil, where Red Dead Redemption (2010) rose from 89 BRL ($16) to 149 BRL ($26), and Red Dead Redemption 2 escalated from 250 BRL to 300 BRL. This is a major development for 15 and 7-year-old games, respectively. Increases have also been noticed in the UK, where RDR2 increased from £54.99 to £59.99, and RDR1 rose from £24.99 to £29.99. Other nations, such as Chile and the Czech Republic, also experienced regional price changes. The U.S. and most other regions are still safe for the meantime, though. What's interesting is that the PC versions of RDR2 on platforms such as Steam, Epic Games Store, and Rockstar's launcher have kept its price low, now only $15 in some instances, its all-time lowest. Speculation mounts regarding Rockstar's pricing policy and GTA 6 Although Rockstar and parent publisher Take-Two have not offered an official statement, industry observers are attributing the changes to an overarching trend in pricing. Nintendo recently set Mario Kart World at $80 for the next Switch 2, and Xbox will do the same with certain first-party titles. Fans now worry GTA 6 may be launched at or near this $80 figure. The Red Dead price increases also come at the same time as a speculated next-gen patch for RDR2, which implies that Rockstar might be setting the stage for a high-end re-release, albeit one similar in nature to GTA V. And with RDR2 leading PlayStation download lists and hitting 74 million units sold, Rockstar might just be profiting from long-term popularity. Even though there has been no official release, Rockstar's under-the-table price adjustments are doing the rounds. Whether setting the stage for a next-gen refresh or trying waters ahead of GTA 6's eventual price release, this is one thing that is certain: the price of being a Rockstar enthusiast may be increasing. Games Inbox: What will the GTA 6 collector's edition be like?

The Wednesday letters page tries to imagine what the PS6 launch line-up will look like, as one reader is glad about the wait between Persona sequels. To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@ Early access So, I see Doom: The Dark Ages is another of these games where you can pay for a collector's edition to play it a few days early. I'm not sure what difference that is supposed to make, especially in a single-player only game, but there's always someone that will pay for these things. I'm not complaining but I am wondering what's going to happen with GTA 6. There's already rumours it's going to cost £100 or more but what are the special editions going to cost? I would bet a lot of money that one of them is going to let you play the game a week early, or whatever, and how much is that going to be? £150? Then there'll be the super special edition with a statue of Jason and Lucia, for £300 or something crazy. I'm honestly curious to see how far they'll push it, and I'm going to guess it'll be pretty far. Gogol Interactive movies I noticed the news that Netflix has removed Bandersnatch and all their other interactive shows from the service. I have no idea why you'd want to do that but I'm guessing that means they weren't as successful as they hoped. That surprises me, as I thought Black Mirror: Bandersnatch worked really well, and I don't usually like these sorts of FMV style games. I'm sure it helps that Charlie Brooker knows his stuff when it comes to games, but I always imagined that that sort of thing would be how video game movies would be handled in the future. You already have games like Until Dawn, that are basically semi-interactive movies where the only important things you're doing is making simple choices. Surely that'd be easy to replicate on a smartphone app when you're watching a movie. Not for anything good, obviously, but for something dumb like Minecraft I would've thought it'd be a good idea. Instead, they made a movie of Until Dawn and not only was it not interactive it had almost nothing in common with the game. Maybe it's all too much effort, when people will go and watch rubbish anyway, but it seems like a missed opportunity to me. Norris No Redemption I am glad to see there's others who never really got the whole GTA phenomenon. I also add Red Dead Redemption to this list of games I simply didn't understand the fascination with. I tried several times with Red Dead Redemption as everyone insisted it was amazing, but even zombies couldn't make it fun for me. I am not bothered by the violence, but didn't find the humour that funny and it felt more like someone trying too hard to be clever and not actually making real social observations. I found the missions repetitive and the controls awful. Each to their own though. Kiran Email your comments to: gamecentral@ Launch explosion I heard from a friend in retail that although Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have all sold out there should be a big delivery of stock ready for day one purchase in stores (at the big retailers at least – he works for one of Argos distribution centres). At time of writing, 4.35pm Tuesday, Very has Switch 2 bundles available but not the console on its own. You can get the Mario Kart World pack with Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom or a Sandisk SD card. Prices around £477 to £494. Mark Matthews GC: Thanks for the latter in particular, we credited you in our story about it. Take your time It's crazy how long it takes between Persona sequels, but I'm not against it. I'd much rather have five really good games (can't pretend I've played the first two) than a dozen okay or bad ones, but as far as I know Atlus has kept up the quality impressively well over the years. I could do without all the spin-offs though. I'm not aware that any of them have ever been any good and I think their time is much better spent on things like Metaphor: ReFantazio, which was excellent. Would much rather have seen a few of those – meaning original games in roughly the same style – than a bunch of half-assed tactics games and Dynasty Warriors crossovers. Lossy Paying the rent Interesting discussion of whether the Nintendo Switch 2 is being sold at loss and while there doesn't seem to be any exact agreement it's obvious they're not making a massive profit on the console itself. I think people often forget that games is all Nintendo do. They're not Microsoft, or even Sony, where if their games division has a bad generation, they can just lean on something else in the meantime. Making their games and consoles a success, and profitable, is a matter of life and death for Nintendo. Before you complain, I'm not trying to excuse Nintendo for the price rises but at least with them I understand them. Especially as they have this 'dynamic' pricing where Mario Kart and Donkey Kong are different prices, so I believe they're not trying to be too outrageous. Obviously, Mario Kart World is more expensive because they know that's the one everyone wants but I don't feel like that's not the most anti-consumer thing they've ever done. And certainly not compared to other companies. Somewhere, someone at Take-Two is trying to work out what's the maximum they can charge for GTA 6 and they are not going to care at all if that means lots of people cannot afford it. That doesn't make sense to me, because surely the more people that can buy it the more money they make. But I guess they figure people are going to be saving up to afford whatever it costs. I don't think we're at that stage yet for Nintendo games and hopefully we never will be, but gaming is definitely getting more expensive at the moment. Lester Pass it forward After completing Dungeons Of Hinterberg the devs asked me to pass on the message if I enjoyed it. I really liked it and will direct readers to your review. I played it on Game Pass but after being an Xbox Series X/S console exclusive it came to PlayStation 4 and 5 a few months ago and is £18, I got 20 hours from it. No Switch version, maybe it'll be on Switch 2 as it seems a perfect fit for the device. Simundo Change is coming Horizon Zero Dawn 3 is obviously coming, I don't think there's any doubt of that, but what I'm more interested in, from the latest leak, is exactly what the PlayStation 6 is going to be. Surely it can't be just another plastic box to go under the TV? The improvement in graphics is going to be far too small to justify that. Maybe it's a portable but I can't imagine Sony making their new console less powerful than their previous one. The probably should, but I just don't think they're that bold. So, are they going to launch their new console and treat it like any other? Will there be two or three first party games, with impressive graphics, and a promise of lots more to come? Because if there was that would be a massive turnaround from how things are at the moment. Maybe that is how it'll be. Maybe they'll just pretend this half of the generation never happened and they'll just carry on like before. I'd welcome it, and it's not like they do interviews or anything anymore, to explain themselves or be confronted for their bad decisions. I don't know what route they'll choose but at this point anything they do is going to come across as strange and out of character. How can Sony be so dominant and yet seem so out of control, all at the same time? Boko Inbox also-rans What a horrible story, selling your friend a Switch 2 for £600. I wouldn't dream of ripping off any friends, I would just let them have the pre-order for the price I paid. More to life than money, the guy has questionable morals! Anon GC: Isn't that for his friend to decide? Although I understand the reader complaining about FromSoftware making too many multiplayer games I think we've just got to accept that's what they want to do at the moment. We really shouldn't be complaining that developers are making something they're passionate about, rather than an easy sequel. GTA 4 Port for Modern Consoles Might Be Out in 2025

has been releasing ports of some of its most beloved games, like Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto Vice City (as part of the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy). Now, it seems the lauded game makers are close to releasing a port of 2008's and 2012's . According to known GTA leaker Tez2 (as spotted by Reddit user leonwongkennedy), Rockstar Games is working on a port for the critically lauded GTA 4. They state that the port might release 'later this year.' Additionally, they say the company is working on a port for Max Payne 3 to release along with the remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2. 'Someone at [Rockstar Games] hinted at the [GTA 4] port, and by not, it should've gone up a year in development,' says the leaker. We may end up seeing it drop later this year. And it's one more reason, in addition to existing reasons, the LCPP mod was taken down.' If they still follow their plan laid out from the pandemic days, they'll do a [Max Payne 3] port after [GTA 4],' continues the leaker. So, that is an opportunity to do a bundle or a Definitive Edition. Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes, and a Max Payne 3 port.' Like any rumor, take this with a grain of salt. Rockstar has not yet revealed a modern port for GTA 4 or Max Payne 3. We'll just have to wait and see until they get a formal reveal. A GTA 4 port releasing this year may satiate some of the fans who might be disappointed by GTA 6's recent delay. The recently released trailer revealed some new characters, as well as a good look at footage captured on a PS5. The new release date for the highly anticipated game is May 26, 2026. GTA 4 remaster coming to PS5 this year claims insider

A next gen version GTA 4 is in development for PS5 and Xbox, according to a well known insider, ahead of a planned re-release of Max Payne 3. While we have a long wait for GTA 6, following its delay to May 26 next year, Rockstar might be planning to release another entry in the series in 2025. Rockstar has released several remasters over recent years, including the original Red Dead Redemption and the much maligned GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, but a new rumour suggests the developer is quietly cooking up at least two more. According to Tez2, a well respected dataminer for Rockstar's games, a 'port' of 2008's GTA 4 is in development and could launch later this year. When asked if they'd heard anything about a potential remaster of GTA 4 for modern consoles on the GTA Forums, Tez2 replied: 'Someone at [Rockstar] hinted at the 4 port, and by now it should've gone up a year in development. We may end up seeing it drop later this year.' The dataminer claims this remaster is 'one more reason' why the Liberty City Preservation Project, a fan mod which recreated the setting of GTA 4 in GTA 5, was shut down earlier this year. After this potential remaster, Tez2 claims Rockstar will next tackle a port of Max Payne 3 if the studio continues to 'follow their plan laid out from the pandemic days' – so it's very possible that plans have shifted since then. The term port implies little or no changes from the original but Tez2 seems to treat the term as being synonymous with remaster. A remake of Max Payne 1 & 2 is in development at Remedy, which will be released as one game and financed by Rockstar. As such, a remaster of Max Payne 3, which was the only game in the series developed by Rockstar themselves, makes a lot of sense to complete the set. More Trending Tez2 has a good track record when it comes to datamining, having outed the existence of a Red Dead Redemption PC port, but they're largely untested when it comes to alleged insider knowledge – so it's probably best to take this with a pinch of salt for now. After GTA: The Trilogy, a remaster of GTA 4 does make sense; especially as it is still locked to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (although it is available on PC). Rockstar also recently acquired Video Games Deluxe, who worked on the upgraded version of GTA: The Trilogy, which strongly indicates they're working on new remasters. If it is planned for this year, a GTA 4 revisit might be the perfect way to burn time until GTA 6 – even if the game is a bit dated in its divisive, sluggish driving physics. The 5 new GTA 6 Trailer 2 Easter eggs only superfans will have noticed

Fans have not stopped combing the new GTA 6 trailer for further clues and secrets, and they've found a surprising amount of interesting stuff. Considering fans had to wait over a year for a new GTA 6 trailer, it's no surprise that they've combed the most recent one frame by frame for any potential secrets. Although it didn't reveal much of GTA 6's story, that wasn't already known, the trailer seems to have teased a number of gameplay details, like multiple fighting styles and the return of a character from the PlayStation 2 games. Since then, more easy to miss details have been shared amongst the GTA community, although it's hard to say whether Rockstar Games intended them merely as fun Easter eggs or potential hints at major features and perhaps even new games. GTA 5 already has a few references to Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption games, like a T-shirt with the first game's protagonist John Marston printed on it. However, the eagle eyed Synth Potato on X has spotted evidence in the new GTA 6 trailer that indicates GTA and Red Dead Redemption share the same universe. Cash in GTA 6 has the faces of Presidents from Red Dead Redemption 2's lore on themI guess in some way, you could say those games are in a sort of shared universe — Synth Potato🥔 (@SynthPotato) May 7, 2025 If you zoom in on the money been thrown around during the strip club scenes, you'll see that they have the faces of two of the fictional US presidents mentioned in Red Dead Redemption 2: Thaddeus Waxman and President Hardin. While likely just a simple Easter egg, this is enough proof for some fans to believe the two franchises exist in the same universe, though whether Rockstar will do anything with this, beyond the occasional reference, is another question entirely. With GTA 6 set in the Florida inspired state of Leonida, Rockstar is using the opportunity to take fans back to Vice City, a location not seen in the series since the two GTA: Vice City games from the mid-2000s. Those games were set in the 80s, so GTA 6's modern take on the setting looks radically different, but there are bound to be some nostalgic callbacks and references. One that has already been spotted, once again by Synth Potato, is not in the trailer but one of the many new screenshots released alongside it. Jason from GTA 6 wearing a palm trees shirt just across from Ocean View HotelRockstar is honoring GTA Vice City in the smallest ways, fun easter egg here! — Synth Potato🥔 (@SynthPotato) May 6, 2025 In the screenshot, co-protagonist Jason can be seen standing outside of what looks like the Ocean View Hotel, which served as your first safehouse in the original Vice City game. On top of that, Jason's blue palm tree shirt looks similar to the one worn by Vice City protagonist Tommy Vercetti. The similarities are more apparent in a new key visual for GTA 6 (as seen above), which feels too deliberate to be a coincidence. Sticking with fans' obsession with shirts, MacaroniMike89 on Reddit believes they've spotted references to GTA Online, the multiplayer component of GTA 5, in two other screenshots. In the above strip club image, someone can be seen on the far right wearing a shirt bearing the name for rapper Yung Ancestor, a rapper who appeared as part of the Diamond Casino heist in GTA Online. In a separate screenshot, a second pedestrian can be seen wearing the same shirt while doing a wheelie on their bike. This could be nothing but a simple reference, but some fans think these are hints at Yung Ancestor making an appearance. A few of GTA 6's new characters are rappers looking to make it big, which suggests the music business will play a key part in GTA 6's story. Even if it's not a big role, Yung Ancestor could serve as an ally for related missions, much like how he was in GTA Online where he helped you with the heist. One common request among fans is for GTA 6 to bring back at least one of the protagonists of GTA 5. Trevor's actor, Steve Ogg, has said he's open to the idea (if only so his character is killed off) and Michael's actor, Ned Luke, is speculated to have teased his inclusion back in 2023. You'll likely need to wait until GTA 6 is actually out to see if any of GTA 5's cast makes a return, although fans of Michael hope they've found evidence of his appearance in the new trailer. Early in the trailer, at around the 22 second mark, you can see a white boat with blue stripes parked in Jason's yard. It is seemingly identical to the boat Michael owns, or rather owned, since it gets stolen during one of GTA 5's missions. As such, could the boat in Jason's yard be the exact same one? If so, was Jason the one to steal the boat or did it come into his possession afterwards? Either way, Ned Luke is having fun rolling with the idea, taking to X to post, 'I'm coming Jason… for my boat.' This one is more fan speculation than an Easter egg, but it's an intriguing one all the same. As highlighted by TGG on X, several cars sport licence plates for different states besides Leonida, including Gloriana and Liberty, both of which appeared in previous GTA games. More Trending While this could just be to add some variety and make the setting feel more alive, some fans have suggested that this is hinting at DLC expansions. It has been rumoured before that new cities to explore will be added as post-launch DLC. Plus, a 2020 report claimed that one plan for GTA 6's launch would have the game be a 'moderately sized release' at first and then be updated over time. If not for the main game, such expansions could be planned for whatever GTA 6's inevitable multiplayer mode is. Rockstar has not officially confirmed anything, but a GTA Online 2 is believed to be in the works to help keep GTA 6 active and generate revenue for many more years after launch. It's far too soon to be thinking about DLC, though, with GTA 6 not set to launch for another year, on May 26, 2026, following the decision to delay it beyond the original autumn 2025 release window.
