Why Guy Sebastian discussed his tour with Taylor Swift in court as his former manager faces trial
Guy Sebastian has told a court how thrilled he was to be the opening act for global pop superstar Taylor Swift during her Australian Red Tour. But what was meant to be a career highlight soon became the centre of a messy legal battle with his former manager. The Aussie Idol winner, 42, took the stand in the NSW District Court on Wednesday, recounting how 'honoured' he felt when ex-manager Titus Day informed him in 2013 that he'd secured the coveted support slot on Swift's stadium shows Down Under. 'I was alerted to the fact that I was to be supporting Taylor Swift, which obviously is a big deal – Taylor's a huge artist, and it was a massive get to get that tour,' Mr Sebastian said, according to Newswire. 'I was really honoured.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The court heard that unlike his own tours - which Sebastian admitted 'weren't fruitful' financially, due to him footing the bill - the Swift gigs were set to be lucrative, with a guaranteed payment locked in. 'This was an opportunity where it was a guaranteed sum I was being paid,' he explained. Keen to put on a standout performance, Sebastian said he flew in a close friend to join him on stage and spent a significant amount assembling a high-calibre band. 'I really made that band as slamming as I possibly could and wanted to do a really good job of this,' he said. While he was due to earn around $500,000 from the tour, Sebastian said approximately $180,000 went towards costs, including his hand-picked band. However, things quickly turned sour when Sebastian discovered a chunk of that money was allegedly never paid to him. The court heard a total of $494,000 was transferred by a booking agent into the account of Mr Day's company, 6 Degrees Management. The Crown alleges that after taking his $59,000 commission, Day should have passed on $435,000 to Sebastian. Instead, it's claimed the singer only received $247,500 – meaning a further $187,000 allegedly went missing. Sebastian told the court he was initially led to believe the remainder of the funds would follow shortly after. 'Within seven or 14 days, but it was clearly indicated to us when the $247,000 was transferred that there was going to be a reconciliation on weeks of the whole tour … we were told that the full reconciliation would be done really soon,' he said. He added that his bookkeepers repeatedly requested those figures so they could complete his tax return, but the full breakdown 'was never received'. Despite the missing money, Sebastian admitted he didn't immediately push for answers. 'In the years following, I assumed it was taken care of,' he told the court. Day's barrister, Thomas Woods, last week conceded that his client did fail to pass on money to Sebastian on some occasions, but claimed the core legal issue is whether the conduct was criminal. 'For many of the charges, the real question is not going to be whether my client failed to transfer the money to Sebastian but whether his failure to do that was criminal,' Woods said. Sebastian signed with Mr Day's 6 Degrees management company in 2006 – three years after winning Australian Idol. The pair had previously worked together at 22 Management. While the relationship began positively, Sebastian told the court that ongoing issues over statements and payments eventually led to him cutting ties with Day in 2017. The singer launched Federal Court action against his ex-manager the following year. Day later filed a counterclaim.

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A video of a mom singing a Taylor Swift song to her baby has gone viral on social media. The Context Lucie Fink is a video producer and host of The Real Stuff with Lucie Fink podcast. She has more than 271,000 followers on Instagram, 552,600 followers on TikTok, and 519,000 subscribers on YouTube. The former TODAY correspondent is married to Michael Morris, and they have two children: son Milo, 3, and daughter Colette "Coco," 7 months. What To Know In April, Fink took to Instagram to share a video of herself singing "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" to Coco. "She's a girl's girl already," Fink wrote in the caption. She dances and sings the hit tune in the clip while her daughter drinks a bottle. Text over the video read: "Daddy: 'Let's read her Goodnight Moon.' Me: 'Let's make her absolutely unhinged.'" Fink sang the lyrics, "Were you sent by someone who wanted me dead? Did you sleep with a gun underneath our bed? Were you writing a book? Were you a sleeper cell spy? In fifty years, will all this be declassified?" "And you'll confess why you did it. And I'll say, 'Good riddance.' 'Cause it wasn't sexy once it wasn't forbidden. I would've died for your sins. Instead, I just died inside. And you deserve prison, but you won't get time." Coco accidentally dropped her bottle during the song and started kicking her legs, appearing to enjoy her mom's rendition. At the time of publication, Fink's post racked up more than 387,000 views, over 10,300 likes, and 116 comments. Newsweek reached out to Fink via email for comment. Fink attended Swift's Red Tour with her father in 2013 and continued the tradition in 2024, taking him along for her record-breaking Eras Tour in Toronto last year, she revealed on Instagram. During the November 26 episode of The Real Stuff, Fink shared a recap of the concert. "How do I even explain what this show is like? I think first and foremost, when people hear that you went to go see a concert, I think they have an idea of what it is and what you went to, and all I can say is, this isn't that," she told listeners. "It's not like you're going to a concert where there is a person on stage just playing a guitar or playing piano and just singing at you. This is a full-blown spectacle." Fink added that "it's honestly more similar, in a lot of ways, to being at a Broadway show than a concert" because "there are set pieces, the stage moves," and "the lighting is out of this world." Ed Sheeran reignites Taylor Swift ex drama with rare pics amid break up rumors with Travis Kelce
Ed Sheeran delighted fans by sharing rare, behind-the-scenes photos featuring Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris (Getty Images) In a heartfelt and nostalgic moment for fans, Ed Sheeran has turned heads by unveiling a treasure trove of rare, behind-the-scenes photos featuring Taylor Swift , her ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris , and former close friends like Hailee Steinfeld . The photos, shared through a new Instagram account, celebrate the release of his latest single, Old Phone, and mark a symbolic return to digital life for the singer, who famously turned his phone off nearly a decade ago. Ed Sheeran surprises fans with rare behind-the-scenes photos of Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris One of the standout images features Taylor Swift with Calvin Harris at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, alongside Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan of One Direction. Ed, clearly in high spirits, captioned the photo with: '2015 billboard awards. I'm dribbly drunk at this point.' The candid post quickly went viral, delighting fans of all four artists with its raw, unfiltered glimpse into a star-studded night. Another emotional highlight was a photo taken during Taylor's Red Tour in 2013, when Ed supported her across several stops. The picture captures Taylor walking along a Rhode Island beach with actress Hailee Steinfeld, part of Taylor's once-iconic 'squad.' Ed, who took the photo from behind, called it a 'mid tour beach trip'—likely referencing the early days of Taylor's ownership of the now-famous Holiday House in Westerly. Sheeran also shared an image of Taylor holding up two slices of cheese pizza in a local Westerly pizzeria, with Hailee sipping soda beside her. Captioned, 'Getting pizza somewhere on tour,' it offered a glimpse into the everyday, carefree moments of their friendship. Other pictures included a 2013-era selfie of Ed and Taylor, and shots of Ed reconnecting with his school friends, adding a personal layer to the nostalgic collection. Ed and Taylor's friendship began in 2011 when Taylor covered 'The A Team' and invited him to join her Red Tour. Taylor later shared a touching memory from 2014: 'I sat there on a bench in that store and heard 'Thinking Out Loud' for the first time… Little did we know it would go on to be first dance song at countless weddings all over the world.' Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift's Friendship Has Changed Since the Red Tour. How They Maintain It with '6-Hour Catchups'
Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift may live busy lives, but they will always make time for their friendship. Over 10 years after their friendship began in 2012, Sheeran, 34, is opening up about how his bond with Swift, 35, has remained close even as times have changed. The "Shape of You" singer brought up the topic when asked about his favorite memory with the pop star during an appearance on the latest edition of Call Her Daddy. Sheeran recalled feeling "nostalgic" about the time he served as Swift's opening act on the Red Tour, in support of her 2012 album Red. The album featured the pair's collaboration "Everything Has Changed." He said the nostalgia came after reviewing old voice notes and texts between him and people he's known for a long time, for a court case, presumably his 2023 copyright infringement lawsuit over his 2014 single "Thinking Out Loud," for which he was found not liable. "I lived in Nashville and she lived in Nashville and we used to fly to and from the gigs together and do all sorts of, I don't know," said Sheeran. "I literally spent almost every single day with her for about six months, so I think that period of time and I do, you know, I see her when I see her." But I think [of] that period, yeah. 2013," Sheeran said. In May 2023, Sheeran said in an interview with Zane Lowe's Apple Music 1 that he is able to have "long" conversations with Swift because "she's one of the only people that actually truly understands where I'm at."
