Gretchen Wilson reveals she was in a wheelchair for 6 MONTHS after horrific injury at her wedding
Gretchen Wilson revealed she had an accident at a wedding that left her leg 'shattered.' The Redneck Woman singer, 51, recently opened up about her leg injury left her wheelchair-bound for many months. She said the 'setback' happened while circle dancing with a six-year-old boy to Ring Around the Rosie when she lost her footing. During an appearance on Taste of Country Nights with Evan Paul this week, she recalled: 'We were at a wedding reception and it was on the beach, so they had thrown one of those Astroturf carpeting things over the sand.' The country music star, who was the latest winner of The Masked Singer, said she was 'doing the spin at 100 mph' when her ankle twisted in one of the holes from the Astroturf. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'It was ugly,' she admitted. 'You seen those videos online with the foot hanging the wrong way? It was one of those. Once I went down, I did not get back up.' She told the outlet that in the moment, she thought that she wouldn't be able to perform again. Wilson also recalled how it took nine months before she could even put any pressure on that foot following her injury. She said that after months of recovery, she received the offer to join The Masked Singer — which would require her to not only sing but also dance again. She admitted that she previously rejected that call in the past but wanted to get back on stage again and welcomed the opportunity. 'All the choreography, it was stressful, but it was good for me,' she said. 'It was hard work. It was really good for me and I proved a lot to myself,' she said while reflecting on her time on the singing competition series. Wilson appeared on the 13th season of Fox's reality show and won as the character Pearl. 'I was absolutely positive that Boogie won. I thought he was just the most amazing singer,' Wilson, whose last album was her 2017 release Ready To Get Rowdy, told People. 'In my head, he had won it weeks before,' she confessed. 'I was so stunned because I had myself ready to hear that I was second place. I was so ready for it, I had already decided that that's what it should be in my head.' After she was announced as the winner, she admitted: 'But being a mom, I felt bad. It was like, "No, no, no, no, no, no, I'm happy with second! He won! 'I think that's probably how he would've felt too. He's just such an incredibly, incredibly likable person. I wished I could have shared it with him.' After being unmasked she said that she felt her win was the 'career comeback' she was waiting for. Wilson first rose to fame with her first single Redneck Woman in 2004 as her debut album became certified 5x platinum. 'I've had a rough couple of years. I was injured. I was in a wheelchair,' she said. 'And there was a moment where I didn't think I'd ever get back to this place,' Wilson admitted. 'And I worked really hard, I prayed really hard, and I got so far. But this opportunity has really proven to me that there's nothing I can't do.'

'The Masked Singer' winner revealed: See who was under Pearl's costume
Season 13 of "The Masked Singer" came to a climactic end May 7. The reality singing competition, which spices up a well-worn format by putting its contestants in elaborate disguises, entered its final episode of the year with just four candidates left. Pearl, Boogie Woogie, Mad Scientist and Coral, all nicknames for the costumes the celebrities don for their performances, duked it out in one final showdown − the winner nabbing the Golden Mask trophy and being forced to reveal themselves. 'The Masked Singer' winner Vanessa Hudgens reveals if she plans on returning to music Pearl ultimately reigned triumphant, impressing judges with a rendition of "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree." Judges and viewers alike are kept in the dark on the identities of the masked singers, given clues on what (usually mid-profile) name they might be and tasked with recognizing their voice sight unseen. Pear turned out to be country star Gretchen Wilson, an early-2000s staple, whose song "Redneck Woman" became an anthem. Wilson, who stumped almost all the judges (aside from Robin Thicke), said after her win that she had done the show to build confidence after a difficult couple of years. "I've had a rough couple of years," she said. "I was injured, I was in a wheelchair and there was a moment where I didn't think I'd ever get back to this place. I worked really hard, I prayed really hard, and I got so far." "This opportunity has really proven to me that there's nothing I can't do," she continued. After Wilson's win, the other finalists also demasked. Boogie Woogie was singer Andy Grammer, Coral was "Zombies" actress Meg Donnelly and Mad Scientist was former Florida Georgia Line member Brian Kelley. Other masked stars this season included Flavor Flav, James Van Der Beek and Candace Cameron Bure. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Who is Pearl on 'The Masked Singer?' Country star Gretchen Wilson wins 'Masked Singer' after 'severe' COVID symptoms kept her from spotlight
Country music icon of the '90s Gretchen Wilson won big on Fox's "The Masked Singer" after health concerns and her personality kept her out of the public eye, according to the star. During an interview with Fox News Digital, Wilson shared the reason why she has been on a hiatus from Hollywood. "So, I got COVID. I was one of the very first to get it, and it was a heck of a round. It left me with high blood pressure, shortness of breath, asthma – all of which I still have – and it took about two years for me to find the right doctors, cardiologists to get it all sorted, to find the right medicine to get my blood pressure down. I mean, it was pretty severe. It was bad enough that I couldn't even do light housework without the blood pressure going up to scary levels," Wilson exclusively told Fox News Digital. COVID was not Wilson's only health battle in recent years. "I also shattered my leg, and I was in a wheelchair for eight months. So there was a lot that I had to work through." "So I just stayed away, figured it out. Like I said, it took a long time, but I finally got myself into a place where I was like, 'Okay, I feel like I'm back.'" The "Redneck Woman" singer also shared that it is not her personality to share her highs and lows on social media. "I don't get on my phone and go, 'Oh, woe is me and look at me and I am so sad, boohoo.' It's just not my personality. So I just stayed away, figured it out. Like I said, it took a long time, but I finally got myself into a place where I was like, 'Okay, I feel like I'm back,'" Wilson said. WATCH: GRETCHEN WILSON WINS 'MASKED SINGER' AFTER CONTINUOUS BATTLE WITH 'SEVERE' COVID SYMPTOMS When Wilson got the call to compete on "The Masked Singer," she decided to use it as an opportunity to see if her talents were still there. "When they called and asked – to me, it was like the best, I don't know of a better opportunity for me to go and try to just see 'What do I have? Do I have it or is it over, you know?' And it was hard work, but it was so rewarding. "I gotta say that I don't think I have this kind of pride or this much just, you know, want to if I hadn't done the show. The show really proved to me that I can still do it, that I need to still be doing it and that I want to still be doing it," she said, referring to singing and performing. Wilson had her "tools" with her while competing on the singing competition show that helped ease her health issues. "I take two different inhalers every day and I take a pretty massive beta blocker. So, I've got my tools. No, I don't think that I felt any different during the show than I do with my typical touring gigs. It's probably a little bit harder to do the 75- to 90-minute nonstop, middle of July, Yuma, Arizona show. That's probably a little bit harder than any given one day on the show. I will say that it's enough work that I felt like I got dehydrated a couple of times. It was a lot of work just keeping hydrated," Wilson said. Now that Wilson is getting back into the spotlight, she has been working with "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan, Blake Shelton and Keith Urban. She told Fox News Digital that she had talked to Sheridan about appearing in one of his many shows. "I don't know, we talked a little bit, we were working, so obviously we didn't sit around and just shoot the cr-p. I would like to, pick his brain, who wouldn't, but we were pretty focused on the project at hand. I have no idea, I think that's gonna be up to Taylor. He's got so many different irons in the fire. He's [got] what, five, 10 different shows going all the time," Wilson said. Wilson felt "very comfortable" working with Shelton and Urban – who are polar opposites, according to the singer. WATCH: GRETCHEN WILSON TALKS WORKING WITH BLAKE SHELTON AND KEITH URBAN "Blake's just always having a good time. He's Mr. Funny. I think that if things hadn't worked out so well for him in this industry, he could have very easily been a comedian. "And Keith is just a lot more serious, but man, what a guy. I mean every time I'm around him, I'm just like, man, when I grew up, I wanted to be Keith Urban. He's brilliant. He's so talented. He played every night. He played every on this other show that I did and just aces every night, perfect voice, so healthy. Takes care of himself. Yeah, I want to be like that. You know, I told him, I said, 'You make me want to be a better me, Keith, you really do.' And then I looked at Blake and said, 'Yeah, not so much you," Wilson said while laughing. Florida Georgia Line's former singer, Brian Kelley, also competed on "The Masked Singer." WATCH: BRIAN KELLEY DISHES ON HIS 'MASKED SINGER' EXPERIENCE "[I] had an absolute blast, man. It was a good time. It was wild. It was challenging. It was just fun, man, it was such a different experience than anything I've ever done. And I'm really glad I did it. Like it was, it was freeing. Creatively, I kind of felt like I recalibrated my whole system and my whole mindset," Kelley told Fox News Digital. "Going into it, I knew it was gonna be fun and wacky and wild and just like a good time and theatrical and just wild production and stuff. But I didn't know that I was gonna leave with just a different headspace, man. I just felt like I was able to double down on just being myself and going forward not worrying about anything, man, and it was so good for me. It was just like. In that mask, in that suit, and just like, 'Hey, let it rip, have fun.' Singing all sorts of songs, different genres, and just singing like here's my take on how I would do that song or how I'd do this song and just be myself," Kelley said.

‘The Masked Singer' spoilers: Who is Pearl?
Pearl made her debut on the March 5 episode of The Masked Singer Season 13 as a member of Group B. The sultry sea jewel's first song on Fox's reality TV show was "Saving All My Love for You" by Whitney Houston, and he had the four panelists (Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora) guessing such famous names as Regina King, Shania Twain, and Joan Jett. But who is Pearl? If you're looking for The Masked Singer spoilers and clues, you've come to the right place! Read on for everything to know about Pearl, including which famous celebrity we think is hiding underneath the mask. More from GoldDerby 'The Masked Singer' spoilers: Who is Griffin? 'The Masked Singer' spoilers: Who is Space Ranger? 'The Masked Singer' spoilers: Who is Boogie Woogie? Gold Derby's official guess for Pearl is ... Gretchen Wilson! Don't believe us? Let's examine all of the clues so far, one by one: Here is what Pearl had to say about herself: "Just like a pearl, you've got to crack through a pretty tough exterior to find the treasure inside. The same has been said about me my whole life. Growing up, I've always loved performing, but people like me weren't promised a chance at a big break. So I took any gig I could — from discount stores to dive bars — praying that someone would find a pearl of talent within me. Eventually the world was my oyster, but I've never been able to shake that hard exterior. It's affected every aspect of my life — especially love. But, I'm a softie at heart, which is why tonight I'm embodying Aphrodite, the goddess of love. So watch out world! This pearl's breaking out of her hard shell and I hope you can see the beauty that's been hidden within all along. Oh, and I'm doing a love song by Whitney, so pray for me." Wilson is known for being one tough lady and professed "she ain't no high class broad" in her breakout single "Redneck Woman" in 2004. Before making it big, she'd perform at Walmart and various dive bars hoping to be discovered. The singer has also been unlucky in love. Never married, Wilson has one daughter named Grace with her ex-boyfriend Mike Penner. SEE 'The Masked Singer': Top 21 most famous celebrities of all time On-screen hints during Pearl's video package included the following: boats in a marina, a baseball, a pink umbrella, and a bowl of cherries. Wilson sang the national anthem at the World Series in 2004 and she's a huge baseball fan. She even recorded a version of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" for ESPN. The umbrella may be a reference to multiple songs Wilson has recorded like "When It Rains" and "Raining on Me." Those cherries are a clue about her feature on the Buckcherry song "The Feeling Never Dies." Following her performance of "Saving All My Love for You," Pearl said, "I can tell you that I've never dressed this fancy before. Usually when I'm on the red carpet and they ask me what I'm wearing I just say, 'I got it on sale.'" Wilson has been vocal about shopping at Walmart and having little interest in designer clothes. The tiara on her costume may even be a physical clue referencing her most recent release, "Little Miss Runner Up."
