Subis to anchor eco-tourism push with Niah Cave as flagship, says Lukanisman
Lukanisman (third left) presents the Program Kasih Ihsan Madani (i-Care4U) contribution to one of the recipients. MIRI (May 10): The development of Subis District will be strategically aligned with tourism-driven initiatives under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with Niah Cave positioned as the district's flagship attraction, according to Sibuti MP Dato Lukanisman Awang Sauni. Speaking at the 'Program Bakti Madani Subis' at Dewan Sepupok, Niah today, the federal Deputy Health Minister said Subis' rich natural assets, including pristine beaches, cultural events, and heritage sites, had made it an ideal future hub for agro-tourism and eco-tourism in northern Sarawak. He noted that the district is already well-known for its oil agricultural output, particularly oil palm cultivation and local products such as 'kelulut' (stingless bee) honey from Bekenu and 'belacan' (shrimp paste) from the Bekenu-Niah area. 'Subis also serves as a strategic stop-over point for travellers heading to Suai, Niah and Bintulu,' he said. 'Destinations such as Tanjung Bungai Beach, Peliau Beach, Tusan Beach, the Miri-SIbuti Coral Reef, as well as Lambir National Park, offer strong tourism potential.' Beyond tourism, he also outlined a series of development proposals under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), with a strong emphasis on education. 'The plan includes the complete rebuilding of four dilapidated schools in the district. The programme was jointly organised by the Performance Acceleration and Coordination Unit (Pacu) and the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda), drawing participation from hundreds of residents. PM, Premier to announce decision on Petros-Petronas issue ‘when the time is right', says Julaihi
Julaihi (third left) receives a souvenir from the Miri Land and Survey Department while (from left) State Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin and Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) CEO Datuk Ismawi Ismunie look on. MIRI (May 10): An official statement on the outcome of the Petros-Petronas discussions will be issued by both Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg when the time is right, said Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi. The State Utility and Telecommunications Minister expressed confidence that the two leaders will reach a mutual agreement on the matter, including issues related to the Distribution of Gas Ordinance (DGO) 2016. 'They will come to an agreement and resolve issues concerning Petros and Petronas. 'Let the Prime Minister and Premier decide — they have already met. I believe they will issue a joint statement. I believe that. 'I have no further comment until the time comes (for them to make the announcement),' he told reporters here today after representing the Premier at the 2025 Miri Madani Service Programme at the Miri Indoor Stadium today. When asked about a leaked letter from his ministry regarding the DGO 2016 that has gone viral, Julaihi declined to comment directly. However, he reaffirmed that under the DGO 2016, Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) is the officially appointed sole gas aggregator in Sarawak. 'As for the rest, I do not wish to comment further. Let this issue be resolved by the Prime Minister and the Premier,' he said. Earlier during the event, Julaihi clarified that the DGO 2016 pertains strictly to gas distribution and not oil. 'We are aware that the letter in question, which was circulated by the media, has turned this into a heated national issue. 'In truth, I cannot say much. The letter was issued by the Ministry (of Utility and Telecommunications) and used polite language and there was no intention of using harsh words,' he said. Julaihi reiterated that both the Prime Minister and Premier had already met to seek a consensus on the Petros-Petronas issue, which he believes includes the matter of gas distribution. Media reports have claimed that the Sarawak government issued a letter of demand to Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) over alleged non-compliance with Section 7(e) of the DGO 2016, specifically concerning the operation of a PCSB-owned facility at the Miri Crude Oil Terminal (MCOT). abang johari anwar ibrahim julaihi narawi lead Petronas Petros

'Additionally, Pocket Talk sessions will feature discussions on various important topics including health, education, cybersecurity, and current issues closely related to public interest. 'At the pavilion, there will be booths by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), Recoda, and other agencies, which will provide information on the Sarawak and Madani government's numerous programmes and initiatives that have been carried out for the benefit of the people,' he said. Moreover, there will be a Rahmah Sale by two major supermarkets in Miri offering daily necessities at affordable prices to the local community, as well as a Recoda Entrepreneur Carnival where entrepreneurs can market their businesses and products, he added. Other activities lined-up are the People's Concert to be held on May 10 outside the Miri Indoor Stadium, featuring performances from artistes like Baby Shima, Ricky Andrewson, and Alleycats; 'Battle of the Bands'; zumba sessions; children's colouring competition; and various family-friendly attractions. 'Visitors could also stand a chance to win attractive lucky draw prizes, including the grand prize of a Proton Saga 1.3 Premium, three SM Sport 110E (N2) motorcycles, and electronic goods such as iPads and Smart TVs. 'Meanwhile, the Satellite Programme will be held on May 10 at the Sepupok Open Stadium, Niah featuring a 'gotong-royong' (work party) and free health screening,' said Ismawi. He added that these initiatives demonstrate the government's continued commitment to realising the Madani Economic Agenda and supporting Sarawak's aspirations to become a developed and high-income state through PCDS 2030. 'We are delighted to finally welcome the public in Miri and surrounding areas to this long-awaited programme, and we look forward to encouraging participation from the local community.'
