Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn rematch confirmed as new date set
Conor Benn will aim to avenge his loss to Chris Eubank Jr in a rematch set for November 15 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Eubank Jr emerged victorious over his arch-rival at the same venue last April after a gruelling 12 rounds. The duo had an immediate rematch clause in their contract, originally scheduled for September 20, but Eubank Jr delayed it, claiming he wouldn't be ready, casting uncertainty over the fight. However, the fighters have now reached an agreement for the second bout, with Benn announcing on social media: "I was ready in September but I'll be even more ready for November. See you soon, Chris Eubank Jr." The build-up to their initial clash was overshadowed by concerns about Eubank Jr making the 160lb middleweight limit and the rehydration clause, which led to him being hospitalised for severe dehydration for two days post-fight. The upcoming rematch is expected to include the same stipulations. Their first encounter also reignited memories of the legendary battles between their fathers, with Chris Eubank Sr beating Nigel Benn in November 1990 and then fighting to a draw in 1993. Eubank Sr has been vocal in his disapproval of their sons' renewed rivalry, given that Eubank Jr has fought at middleweight or super-middleweight and Benn has mostly competed as a welterweight, reports the Mirror. Eubank Jr was fined £375,000 for exceeding the middleweight limit by half an ounce but met the required rehydration weight of 170lbs on the day of their fight. The British boxer has been slapped with a £10,000 fine for "misuse of social media" after he shared videos hinting at using a sauna to shed pounds. The British Boxing Board of Control clarified in their statement: "The Southern Area Council were satisfied that Mr. Eubank did in fact not use rapid weight loss methods in close proximity to his contest [with Benn]. "The social media comments attributed to Mr. Eubank were indeed posted by him and as such were in breach of Regulation 25 and the Board's social media guidelines."

Chris Eubank Jr must pay new fine before being allowed to face Conor Benn again
The pair are expected to go head-to-head for a second time later this year, but Eubank Jr MUST pay a fine before the British Boxing Board of Control license him for sequel with Benn Chris Eubank Jr must pay a fine of £10,000 before the British Boxing Board of Control license him for his rematch with Conor Benn. The British boxing star was handed the fine by the Board for misuse of social media. Last week, the Board's Southern Area Council held a hearing for Eubank Jr, looking into his weight-making for his initial encounter with Benn back in April. 'Next Gen' sent alarm bells ringing after the Brit appeared to have violated the Board's rules. It came when he posted footage on social media that implied he was using a sauna to make the official weight. Eubank Jr famously missed weight a day before the fight. The 35-year-old weighed 160.2lbs on his first attempt and 160.05lbs on his second and final attempt and was fined £375,000. On the morning of the fight, he was contracted to be no more than 10lbs higher. He avoided another fine after he weighed in at 169.4lbs. In an attempt to make the weight, it was alleged that he used a sauna to help with the cut - which is against the Board's rules. That said, from evidence provided by Eubank Jr and his team, the Board inquiry ruled that he was NOT guilty of using a sauna on the day of the official weigh-in - but consider him guilty of 'improper use of social media.' The Board's Southern Area Council said: "Mr. Eubank Jnr. was found to be in breach of Regulation 25 for misuse of social media. The Southern Area Council fined Mr. Eubank Jnr. the sum of £10,000. Mr. Eubank Jnr. was confirmed as arriving late for the official weigh-in ceremony for the contest in question and received a severe reprimand placed on his file from the Southern Area Council." In an epic back-and-forth encounter, Eubank Jr would eventually go on to get his hand raised on points and - in doing so - handing Benn the first loss of his professional career. "I knew I was capable of that. I just needed someone to bring it out of me," said Eubank Jr. "I didn't expect Conor to be the guy to do that. I didn't know he had that in him, I thought I would break him early. I underestimated him, I didn't prepare for a fight like that. The fact our fathers fought years ago brought out a different spirit and I am happy to have my father with me. He needed to be here. All this is because of him." Immediately after the clash, Eubank Jr was rushed to hospital for medical attention. An official tweet from BOXXER - the 35-year-old's promoters - read: "On recommendation of the onsite doctor, Chris Eubank Jr has been taken to hospital by ambulance for precautionary checks." After going the distance, Eubank Jr had a huge cut above his right eye with his face looking battered and swollen, while Benn suggested his rival had suffered a broken jaw, stating: "I wish him well. I know he's gone to the hospital, I have heard he's got a broken jaw do I wish him a speedy recovery." When is the Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn rematch? Last month, Saudi boxing supremo Turki Alalshikh confirmed that the two Brits will go head-to-head for a second time on September 20 in London. The card will be a Riyadh Season event and promoted by Sela, Boxxer and Matchroom. The fight will once again be contested at the middleweight limit of 160 pounds, with a 10-pound rehydration clause in place, just as there was for the first bout. No venue has yet been confirmed and the final decision will be made by Turki Alalshikh and Ring Magazine, Benn's promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed as he cited Tottenham and Wembley as possible venues. He said: "Spurs is contracted - it's a fantastic stadium and it worked extremely well the first time. Obviously, it was sold out and this fight's even bigger, so you could possibly look at Wembley to increase the capacity, but that will be a decision for His Excellency and Ring Magazine to make the final call."

NRD to act on IC delays, tighten officer accountability and SOPs
KUALA LUMPUR: The National Registration Department (NRD) will review disciplinary measures against officers found negligent or who failed to act on delays in processing identity card (IC) applications. In a statement today, the department said it will also introduce a defined timeline for handling complex investigation cases, alongside retraining and competency enhancement for its investigating officers. 'The department is in the process of reviewing and strengthening its standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure every case is managed effectively and in line with good governance,' it said. It added that improvements to its document storage and management systems are also underway to prevent further lapses. The move follows findings by the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) today, which highlighted a case involving an IC application that remained unresolved for over a decade. NRD said it takes all criticisms seriously, particularly regarding the handling of investigation papers, document management, SOP compliance, as well as enforcement under Regulation 25 of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007). The department reaffirmed its commitment to transparent, efficient service delivery, stating that the latest measures address immediate concerns while supporting broader reforms under the government's public sector transformation agenda.

Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission calls for SOP overhaul after decade-long JPN probe delay
Published on: Tuesday, May 20, 2025 Published on: Tue, May 20, 2025 By: FMT Reporters Text Size: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission said it has sent its recommendations to the JPN director-general, including the possibility of disciplinary action for the officers involved in the MyKad probe. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) has urged the national registration department (JPN) to overhaul its SOPs following a 10-year delay in investigating a problematic MyKad application. EAIC said weaknesses in JPN's internal processes, including the mishandling of investigations and the loss of the original birth certificate impounded by the department, had contributed to the delay. 'There is a need for improvements to JPN's SOPs, particularly regarding the appropriate timeframe for cases where further investigation is no longer viable,' it said in a statement today. 'A more detailed review is needed on the implementation of Regulation 25 of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007), particularly for cases involving individuals who fail to appear to provide statements during the investigation process.' The commission's findings followed a complaint it had received against JPN for taking more than a decade to investigate a case involving irregularities in a MyKad application. In light of the findings, the commission said it had referred its recommendations to the JPN director-general, including the possibility of disciplinary action against the officers involved. Advertisement 'Recommendations to improve SOPs and the implementation of Regulation 25 of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007) should be carried out to ensure that JPN can act more proactively and effectively in conducting investigations,' it said. The commission also said it had referred the matter to the department's disciplinary authority under Regulation 38 of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
