Countdown to Kickoff: Rejzohn Wright is the Saints Player Day 25
Wright hopes for another strong preseason to grab a Saints cornerback job
The New Orleans Saints will begin their regular season in 25 days when they host the Arizona Cardinals. Wearing No. 25 is defensive back Rejzohn Wright, fighting for a roster spot for the second year. Wright wore No. 28 with New Orleans last year before switching this summer. Our countdown series continues, with Wright as our Saints Player of the Day.
Out of James Logan High School near Palo Alto, California, Wright would play his first two years of college ball at Laney College in northern California. He'd transfer to Oregon State in 2020 and would be a big part of their defense the following year after a Covid-shortened 2020. In 2021, Wright had 2 interceptions and broke up 8 passes for the Beavers while recording 52 tackles. His tackle totals were down in 2022, but Wright again had 2 interceptions and broke up 9 throws, earning him 1st Team All-Pac-12 recognition.
Despite a strong finish to his collegiate career, Wright was not selected in the 2023 NFL draft. He'd sign with the Carolina Panthers, but was released in training camp. Wright was picked up by the Raiders midway into the 2023 season for their practice squad, but was released a week later. At the conclusion of the 2023 season, New Orleans signed Wright to a reserve/future contract.
Wright had a solid preseason for the Saints in 2024 and looked like a possibility for a roster spot. However, an injury sustained in the third preseason game ended his year with a trip to injured reserve. Rejzohn Wright is again in the mix for a cornerback job with the Saints. He'll have to shine on special teams, but will also have to outperform several other corners at a position that will have a vastly new look this season for New Orleans.
