Women help desk staff trained to handle sensitive cases with empathy

Lucknow: To improve the quality of early police response to crimes involving women and children, a two-day specialised training programme was held in Lucknow to equip women help desk personnel with both legal knowledge and an empathetic approach to victim support. Organised by the Lucknow police commissionerate in collaboration with Unicef, the training took place on Aug 2 and 4 at the Reserve Police Lines. The sessions were held by assistant commissioner of police (Women & crime) Soumya Pandey and chaired by deputy commissioner of police (Crime) Kamlesh Kumar Dixit. The initiative focused on enhancing the capabilities of help desk officers, who are often the first point of contact for victims of domestic violence, dowry harassment, sexual assault and Pocso-related crimes. "The aim was to move beyond procedural responses and cultivate trust, patience and a non-judgmental attitude among personnel," said Pandey. The programme featured interactive sessions with experts from across India, including mental health professionals, legal experts and child rights specialists. Key themes included understanding trauma, providing psychological first aid and ensuring dignity and safety in victim interactions. Dixit said that the training emphasised building a support system rooted in empathy and sensitivity. "Officers were trained to create a secure environment where victims feel safe to speak, without fear or hesitation," he said. Topics covered included empathetic communication, trauma-informed care, appropriate legal handling of domestic disputes, sexual harassment, dowry abuse and cases under the Pocso Act. Pandey stressed the importance of such training, mentioning that victims often hold back due to perceived apathy or harsh behaviour by police. "A humane, sensitive approach at the first point of contact can make the difference between silence and justice," she said.

SHOs to act against pvt security firms without licence

Lucknow: Station house officers (SHOs) will now identify and take action against private security firms operating without a valid licence in their respective jurisdictions, according to new directives issued by the Lucknow Police. The instructions were part of a meeting held on Wednesday at the Reserve Police Lines, chaired by joint commissioner of police (Law and order) Babloo Kumar. Kumar directed all SHOs to identify and take strict legal action against unlicensed private security agencies functioning in their respective jurisdictions. In addition, they were asked to prepare a list of security firms registered outside Lucknow but operating within the city under state-level licenses. "A major highlight of the meeting was the enforcement of employee verification protocols. All licensed security agencies are now mandated to get every staff member verified through the UPCOP App or the official Lucknow Police website. Agencies must also maintain comprehensive documentation, including Aadhaar cards, bank passbooks and photographs of all employees, and must comply with provisions of the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005," police said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Take a Look - How Watching Videos Can Boost Your Income TheDaddest Undo The meeting was attended by representatives from the Association of Private Security Owners of UP (APSO), including president Ashish Singh and vice president Umesh Kumar. Days after wife was found hanging, ASP, his family members booked for murder

Lucknow: Mahanagar police late on Monday night registered a case of murder and domestic harassment against additional superintendent of police (ASP) Mukesh Pratap Singh, currently posted in the CID wing of the police, and several members of his family in connection with the suspicious death of his wife, Neetesh Singh. The FIR was lodged based on a complaint filed by Neetesh's brother, Pramod, a resident of Firozabad. According to police, Neetesh was found dead under suspicious circumstances at the Transit Hostel of the Reserve Police Lines in Lucknow on July 30. Her body was reportedly found hanging, but the family suspects foul play and has alleged that she was murdered following prolonged physical and mental harassment. In his complaint, Pramod stated that Neetesh was married to ASP Mukesh Pratap Singh of Etawah on Nov 30, 2012. Pramod alleged that after a few years of marriage, Mukesh developed a close relationship with a woman residing in the Aashiana area. When Neetesh became aware of the affair, she reportedly confronted her husband, which allegedly led to repeated episodes of mental and physical abuse. Pramod claimed that his sister frequently confided in him about the harassment she was facing. She mentioned that Mukesh regularly communicated with the woman via calls and messages and would also meet her outside. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like I thought my dad was 'boring'. The complaint also mentions that Mukesh's father Ramesh Chandra, mother Sudha Chandra, brother Anubhav Chandra and sister Aastha, supported his actions and pressured Neetesh to agree to a divorce. On July 30 around 3 pm, Pramod received a call from his niece, Ananya Singh, informing him that the previous day there was a confrontation at home over the same woman. During the quarrel, Mukesh and Aastha allegedly asked Neetesh to leave the house and told her to "go and die somewhere." It is alleged that they also physically assaulted her. Shortly after this altercation, Neetesh was found hanging in the house, under circumstances that the family believes were staged. Based on Pramod's statement, Mahanagar police registered a case under sections related to murder and domestic violence. Inspector Akhilesh Mishra confirmed that notices have been issued to all the named accused, and further investigation will be carried out based on their responses. DCP, Central zone, Ashish Srivastava said an FIR has been registered against the ASP and his four family members under BNS sections related to murder, assault, and cruelty.

84 cops on 42 race bikes to tackle traffic chaos in Lucknow

The Lucknow Police Commissionerate on Wednesday launched 42 Racer Mobile units equipped with state-of-the-art traffic management tools. 'These units are expected to play a crucial role in swiftly clearing traffic bottlenecks, especially during high-pressure situations such as cricket matches, religious processions, political rallies, or sudden gridlocks at key junctions. If the need arises, several of them can be called to one place to tackle the situation,' said DCP, traffic, Kamlesh Dixit. Lucknow police commissioner Amrendra Kumar Sengar flagged off the fleet from the Reserve Police Lines, marking a significant upgrade to the city's traffic response capability. 'A key feature of this initiative is the Racer Mobiles' ability to respond instantly in large numbers to any traffic disruption across the city. Whether it's a jam near the stadium during a match, or crowding due to a procession or festival, these bikes will act as the first responders to break the bottleneck and restore flow,' said the DCP traffic. A senior police officer said that cops will also be able to challan those trying to flout traffic norms. The commissioner of police emphasised that these mobile units bring discipline, quick action, and modern technology into the field, and instructed officers to uphold professionalism and swift responsiveness during duty. The mobile teams have been deployed strategically across sensitive routes, busy intersections, and accident-prone zones. With the continued expansion of the commissionerate, this initiative is seen as a key effort to ensure smarter, faster, and more people-centric traffic management in the city. Those who targeted ‘sindoor' of India's daughters lost their clan: Yogi

LUCKNOW Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said that 'Operation Sindoor' is a powerful response to terrorists, declaring that those who dared to snatch the 'sindoor' (vermilion) of India's daughters paid with the destruction of their own families. (Deepak Gupta/HT Photo) 'Operation Sindoor is a symbol of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian Army's commitment and sensitivity towards the country's sisters and daughters. The bravery of the armed forces has full support of people,' he said reviewing civil defence preparations during the mock drill in Lucknow. 'Those who tried to snatch the 'sindoor' (vermilion) of India's sisters and daughters had to lose their 'khandaan' (clan),' he added. Terming the Indian forces' response to the Pahalgam terror attack as 'decisive', he said: 'We won't let anyone play with the honour and pride of the nation. The country comes first. Those who conspire against 'Bharat Mata' will have to face the consequences.' Adityanath voiced strong support for the armed forces, asserting that national security remains the top priority — whether in villages, cities, or neighbourhoods. He urged not just NCC cadets, homeguards, and scouts, but every citizen to step forward and support security agencies, stressing that protecting the nation is a shared responsibility. He also congratulated the three armed forces, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the defence minister and the Union Cabinet on behalf of the people of Uttar Pradesh for their firm response to the Pahalgam incident. He offered condolences to the families of Indians who lost their lives in the attack. The CM interacted with officials from various civil defence agencies to assess their preparedness. He said mock drills like these help the general public understand what steps to take in emergencies, which is essential for national security. As soon as the mock drill was launched by the NDRF, sirens went off, followed by a blackout to simulate an enemy airstrike. Civilians moved to safe zones, and once the second siren declared the end of the threat, the injured were given first aid. Firefighters, medical staff, and rescue teams stepped in to assist. Citizens were also trained on how to deal with collapsed structures and chemical attacks.
