No PlayStation showcase this summer suggest insiders as Sony waits till autumn
Sony is not thought to be planning any showcase or State of Play event this summer, as insiders tease big Japanese game reveals for Geoff Keighley's show. Over the past five years, Sony has held either a State Of Play presentation or a PlayStation Showcase during the months of May or June. This in turn is the continuation of a decades long tradition of preview events originally timed to coincide with the now defunct E3 expo. Along with Microsoft and Nintendo, Sony has always kept to the same basic schedule (although recently they've preferred late May to early June), while third party publishers have relied on Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest. The Xbox showcase is already scheduled for June 8 but given the Switch 2 launch in the same week it's unclear what Nintendo will do. Sony has said nothing so far about an event but multiple insiders suggest that they may not have any presentation until September. Earlier this week, reliable insider NateTheHate, aka NateDrake, (who, amongst other things, accurately predicted the Switch 2 reveal date) has said he still hasn't 'heard anything about a May event from Sony for this year'. This was supported by fellow insider John Harker, who responded to a post in the same ResetEra thread, which speculated Sony was targeting September for its next event. 'Indeed,' he wrote in response. While there's a chance Sony could announce a show over the next two weeks, and blindside everybody, there are usually whispers from insiders in the weeks prior – so the lack of any information suggests Sony might not hold any presentation this summer. If true, this would be somewhat surprising, considering Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is just around the corner, on June 26, and there are rumours of a new God Of War game, but it's possible Sony could showcase these during the main Summer Game Fest show. In fact, in a separate post, NateTheHate has said he knows 'of a few Japanese games being shown and/or revealed at Summer Game Fest', which could include Sony. More Trending This post was in response to a ResetEra user who asked if Japanese games will have a big presence at the show, with Kingdom Hearts 4, Resident Evil 9, Persona 6, and the successor to Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth named as their dream reveals. While it's unclear if he was being sarcastic, NateTheHate replied: 'Your expectations don't seem too high, so you should be 'thrilled' per your own words.' Square Enix recently provided an update on Kingdom Hearts 4 for the first time in years, so it's possible a new trailer is on the horizon. Similarly, Capcom appeared to tease Resident Evil 9 in a video last month, while rumours of a Persona 4 remake have also accelerated recently – so there's a chance they will all pop up in some capacity. Although there's normally always a Nintendo Direct in early or mid June the timing of the Switch 2 launch makes it very hard to predict what they might do. But if they do miss their usual spot there's likely to be another Direct in the late summer. Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter, and sign-up to our newsletter. Be careful what you read about an Elden Ring movie
On Tuesday, a publication called Nexus Point News published a headline for what looked to be a major piece of entertainment news: 'EXCLUSIVE: Alex Garland Set To Direct 'Elden Ring' Film For A24.' The article claimed that Elden Ring 'is expected to be Garland's next film' and that shooting is expected to start in 2026. But don't get your hopes up: soon after the article was published, Nexus Point News pulled it, and the publication won't say why. How this article made the rounds is an interesting case study in the way news travels on the internet. We first saw the Nexus Point News article from a Wario64 post on X. Generally, Wario64 is a great account to follow to see breaking news in video games almost as soon as it happens. And the account is quite popular, with more than 1 million followers on X. But none of us at The Verge had ever heard of Nexus Point News, let alone recognized it as a place that reliably breaks entertainment news, so something didn't seem right. (Another recent Nexus Point News 'exclusive' includes a potential cast member 'being eyed' for one of the male leads of Star Wars: Starfighter, but the article includes an update that says 'a LucasFilm spokesperson has denied this reporting.') So I messaged Wario64, asking why he reposted it. He said that the person who posted a thread on the gaming forum ResetEra claimed the site was reliable and that 'I guess I'm sharing cause I too think it's absurd lol.' That thread appears to be this one, where the poster says, in a reply to somebody asking 'bro what the fuck is this source lmaooo,' that 'Nexus point news is pretty reliable, they are breaking more and more news before the traditional trades.' Soon after, I refreshed the Nexus Point News story and saw that it had been taken down. I told Wario64 that we were looking into the story on our end and about its removal. Soon after, Wario64 posted about the removal and deleted the original tweet. A24's Sophia Shin also declined to comment on the record. The possibility of an Elden Ring adaptation seems likely. FromSoftware said in early 2022 that it hoped to expand the franchise 'beyond the realm of games.' George R.R. Martin, who provided the 'mythos' for the world of Elden Ring, hinted last year that some kind of adaptation might be in the works. And FromSoftware is about to release Elden Ring Nightreign, a multiplayer-focused spinoff, so announcing a film around now would make some sense. But for the moment, there's nothing official about an Elden Ring movie.

Massive Switch update prepares console for Switch 2 but not everyone's happy
Nintendo has added a bunch of new features to the Switch, to make it compatible with the Switch 2, including Game Share and virtual game cards. The Nintendo Switch 2 is just over a month away, and while people scramble to pre-order the console, a new Switch update has arrived teasing what's to come. On Thursday, April 30, Nintendo rolled out firmware update 20.0.0 for the Switch. While these updates usually offer minor system improvements, this one comes with several key new features to prepare the console for the Switch 2. One of the big new additions is the virtual game card system, which allows players to move digital games to another console (if it's linked to the same Nintendo Account), or lend games to people within the same Nintendo Account family group. As outlined by Nintendo, you can lend up to three virtual game cards, along with all its DLC, at a time, but receivers can only borrow one game at a time (so you can't borrow games from multiple people at once). These virtual game cards can be lent to a family member for 14 days, after which they'll be automatically returned to the original user. The update also adds Game Share, which allows Switch 2 players to share games with other consoles (original Switch included) and play at the same time over a local wireless connection. It's important to note, Game Share can only be initiated from a Switch 2 console to other nearby systems – so you can't use Game Share between two original Switch consoles. In other words, it's useless at the moment. Perhaps the most crucial addition is the system transfer option to the Switch 2, so you can upload all your save data to a server and move it across to the new console. After you do this, your original Switch will effectively be wiped and returned to its original factory settings, so you should only do this when you actually have the Switch 2. There are some other minor additions too, including colour changes to the Nintendo eShop and News icons on the home menu, which are now red and green, respectively. Also, Nintendo has replaced Donkey Kong's character icon with the new redesign from Donkey Kong Bananza, so hopefully you weren't too attached to Rare's version. Amid all these additions, there is one caveat. As pointed out on ResetEra, this update now stops people from playing online simultaneously when sharing digital games across two Switch consoles. More Trending You can still share digital games and play offline simultaneously though, as long as you activate the new 'Online License' option under user settings. It's unclear why this specific change has been implemented, or if it was an unintentional loophole to begin with, but it's a bit of a nuisance if you share a digital copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and want to race online at the same time. For every detail in the update, you can check out the patch notes. If your system hasn't updated yet, head to the settings menu and under 'system', check 'system update' and it should be available. The Switch 2 is set to launch worldwide on June 5, 2025, with Mario Kart World leading the games line-up. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remaster Has Leaked, Release Date Alleged For April
The long-rumoured The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster might actually be happening, thanks to a fresh leak that includes screenshots and comparisons. It has been more than 19 years since The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion launched for the Xbox 360. The fourth entry allowed fans to explore the province of Cyrodiil, with sharper edges than the previously released Morrowind for the original Xbox. While active polygons were visible in Morrowind — likely due to hardware limitations at the time — Oblivion smoothed many of those edges. To this day, many fans of The Elder Scrolls still refer to the fourth instalment as the greatest entry — just like Morrowind. There have been numerous rumours regarding a potential remaster of the fourth entry in The Elder Scrolls franchise, and today, a leak has surfaced online revealing what leakers are calling The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Leaked images and details can be found on ResetEra, with side-by-side comparisons of the original next to the purported remaster. According to Leakers, the remaster changes many aspects of the game, including the HUD, to attract new players. Below, an alleged image of the 'remastered' Oblivion gates can be seen in their fiery glory, thanks to leakers on Imgur. The images and comparisons appear authentic, and the ResetEra post claims they originated from an official Virtuos website. A link to the site was shared on ResetEra, but it now leads to a dead page. Virtuos has been in the gaming industry for more than 20 years and is known for contributing to some of the biggest gaming franchises, including BioShock, Assassin's Creed and Final Fantasy. At the time of writing, clicking the 'Our Works' tab on the Virtuos site also leads to a dead link, suggesting the leaked images and details may be legitimate and that Virtuos could be engaging in damage control. However, until Virtuos or Bethesda make a formal announcement, these leaks should be taken with a grain of salt until the developers or publishers provide an official statement.

As the Devil May Cry anime soars up Netflix's most-watched list, the DmC games on Steam are getting a boost of up to 20 times the player count
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Netflix's new Devil May Cry anime has proven to be incredibly popular on the streaming service, making it to number four in the top ten global English-language shows. It also seems to have inspired people to go and play the games, as Devil May Cry 5 and more have seen a huge spike in players. The new anime follows game protagonist and half-demon Dante before we ever met him on consoles. In the show, he's a demon hunter for hire who has to save the world from a demonic invasion and the White Rabbit, a foe we only saw in the Devil May Cry 3 manga previously. So, this is a much younger Dante than we're used to. As spotted on ResetEra, the anime is only behind Arcane for the number of hours watched in its first week. It's even ahead of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and that show drew loads of people back to the sci-fi game, just like Devil May Cry is doing with, well, Devil May Cry. Since the show was released, the number of people playing Devil May Cry 5 on Steam has gotten about ten times higher. It's even pushed the game into the global top sellers, which is pretty impressive considering that's ranked by revenue and the game is currently 75% off. Other games in the series have benefitted too. The confusingly named DmC: Devil May Cry is up about five times its normal player count, and the HD Collection which contains 1, 2, and 3, is up more than 20 times what it was before the anime aired and even has a new all-time concurrent player peak. In Devil May Cry 5, you can control Dante, Nero, and a new character called V, so it's worth a go if you've not played anything from the series in a while.
