No PlayStation showcase this summer suggest insiders as Sony waits till autumn
Sony is not thought to be planning any showcase or State of Play event this summer, as insiders tease big Japanese game reveals for Geoff Keighley's show.
Over the past five years, Sony has held either a State Of Play presentation or a PlayStation Showcase during the months of May or June. This in turn is the continuation of a decades long tradition of preview events originally timed to coincide with the now defunct E3 expo.
Along with Microsoft and Nintendo, Sony has always kept to the same basic schedule (although recently they've preferred late May to early June), while third party publishers have relied on Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest.
The Xbox showcase is already scheduled for June 8 but given the Switch 2 launch in the same week it's unclear what Nintendo will do. Sony has said nothing so far about an event but multiple insiders suggest that they may not have any presentation until September.
Earlier this week, reliable insider NateTheHate, aka NateDrake, (who, amongst other things, accurately predicted the Switch 2 reveal date) has said he still hasn't 'heard anything about a May event from Sony for this year'.
This was supported by fellow insider John Harker, who responded to a post in the same ResetEra thread, which speculated Sony was targeting September for its next event. 'Indeed,' he wrote in response.
While there's a chance Sony could announce a show over the next two weeks, and blindside everybody, there are usually whispers from insiders in the weeks prior – so the lack of any information suggests Sony might not hold any presentation this summer.
If true, this would be somewhat surprising, considering Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is just around the corner, on June 26, and there are rumours of a new God Of War game, but it's possible Sony could showcase these during the main Summer Game Fest show.
In fact, in a separate post, NateTheHate has said he knows 'of a few Japanese games being shown and/or revealed at Summer Game Fest', which could include Sony. More Trending
This post was in response to a ResetEra user who asked if Japanese games will have a big presence at the show, with Kingdom Hearts 4, Resident Evil 9, Persona 6, and the successor to Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth named as their dream reveals.
While it's unclear if he was being sarcastic, NateTheHate replied: 'Your expectations don't seem too high, so you should be 'thrilled' per your own words.'
Square Enix recently provided an update on Kingdom Hearts 4 for the first time in years, so it's possible a new trailer is on the horizon. Similarly, Capcom appeared to tease Resident Evil 9 in a video last month, while rumours of a Persona 4 remake have also accelerated recently – so there's a chance they will all pop up in some capacity.
Although there's normally always a Nintendo Direct in early or mid June the timing of the Switch 2 launch makes it very hard to predict what they might do. But if they do miss their usual spot there's likely to be another Direct in the late summer.

Persona 4 remake is happening as actor reveals he was rejected by Atlus
A voice actor from Persona 4 has confirmed a remake is in development, after he 'begged' developer Atlus to be a part of it. The success of Persona 3 Reload has made another remake in the series practically inevitable, but several rumours in recent months have suggested an announcement could be around the corner. Earlier this year, singer Shihoko Hirata, who is best known for tracks in Persona 4, appeared to drop a hint she was recording for a new game. Since then, developer Atlus has filed a domain name with a Persona 4 reference, which mirrors the domain name for Persona 3 Reload. While this evidence already strongly suggested a Persona 4 remake is in development, a voice actor on the original game, Yuri Lowenthal, has now basically confirmed it. In a post on Bluesky, Lowenthal, who provided the English voice for Yosuke Hanamura in the original game, said he wouldn't be reprising the role in the Persona 4 remake after Atlus turned him down. 'And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake,' Lowenthal wrote. 'I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don't want me to come back.' Persona 3 Reload featured an entirely new English voice cast from the original game, so it's possible Atlus is simply committing to the same clean slate for the next remake. Lowenthal, who voiced the protagonist in the original Persona 3, similarly didn't reprise his role in Persona 3 Reload. However, he did voice another character, Eiichiro Takeba, in the remake – so it's possible the actor could make a guest appearance in the revamped version of Persona 4. More Trending Along with Yosuke, Lowenthal has voiced a variety of characters in video games, including Peter Parker in Marvel's Spider-Man and the Prince in Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time. Atlus has not officially announced a Persona 4 remake, but a reliable insider recently teased that a 'few Japanese games' will be revealed during Summer Game Fest on Friday, June 6, so it's possible we could see an announcement there. Along with a Persona 4 remake, fans are waiting on news of the similarly inevitable Persona 6. The game's predecessor, Persona 5, launched over eight years ago and has spawned a multitude of spin-offs since. Pokémon Legends: Z-A release date announced with Switch 2 upgrades
Nintendo has revealed the release date for the next major Pokémon game, which will be preceded by a Pokémon Presents showcase. The Nintendo Switch 2 launch is just around the corner, but there are several games slated for this year which still don't have release dates. Some of these are Switch 2 exclusives, like Kirby Air Riders and Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment, but we also don't have dates for several cross-gen titles, including Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. While these might be revealed during the rumoured Nintendo Direct for next month, Nintendo has just randomly announced when we can expect to play one upcoming cross-gen game. After being previously slated for autumn this year, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the sequel to Pokémon Legends: Arceus, will launch on October 16, 2025 across Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Along with sharing the game's cover art, Nintendo confirmed the Switch 2 Edition will have improved graphics and frame rates. If you purchase the physical or digital version of Pokémon Legends: Z-A for the original Switch, you can buy an upgrade pack to the Switch 2 Edition. A price for this upgrade pack is yet to be announced, but it will likely line up with the upgrade price for the Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Switch 2 Editions, which both cost £7.99. There are more expensive £16.99 upgrade packs for Super Mario Party Jamboree and Kirby And The Forgotten Land, but these come with extra modes. More Trending Along with the release date, a Pokémon Presents showcase has also been announced for July 22, 2025, where we will presumably see more from the sequel, and other upcoming games like Pokémon Champions. Nintendo traditionally releases a big game in November every year, so this October date for Pokémon Legends: Z-A suggests the company could have a secret game up its sleeve – unless Metroid Prime 4: Beyond or Hyrule Warriors Age Of Imprisonment end up taking the Christmas slot. Pokémon Legends: Z-A takes place in the Paris-inspired Lumiose City, a setting previously seen in Pokémon X and Y. Along with bringing back mega evolutions, it has a revamped real-time combat system where Pokémon can move around and dodge attacks.
