The groin injury occurred during a tag match on SmackDown. He also injured his eardrum around the same time. He later underwent surgery for the same. This injury forced him to miss WrestleMania 41, where he was to take on El Grande Americano in a grudge match. He was replaced by Rey Fenix in the bout, who lost. Rey Mysterio made his unofficial return to WWE programming at Worlds Collide in June and appeared during the opening segment. He, however, was not cleared to compete at the event.
