Winnipegger, Ontario man dead after separate drownings in southern Manitoba
Two men are dead after separate drownings in southern Manitoba over the weekend, RCMP say. Mounties were first dispatched at around 2 p.m. on Saturday to the Rural Municipality of Reynolds after receiving reports that a person might have drowned at Reynolds Ponds, which is about 65 kilometres east of Winnipeg. Police were told a man had been swimming when suddenly he didn't resurface. While bystanders had tried to search for him, they couldn't find him. A 70-year-old man from Ontario was later found dead, RCMP said. The second drowning happened at Grand Beach. RCMP said they were dispatched to the provincial park about 80 kilometres north of Winnipeg at around 8 p.m. on Saturday. At Grand Beach, police were told two males had gone out to the lake on a pool floatation device when they lost balance and fell into the water. While one of them was rescued by a nearby kayaker, the other one didn't resurface, RCMP said. The underwater team found a 25-year-old man from Winnipeg in the water who was pronounced dead. Mounties said they continue to investigate both of the drownings.

Manitoba RCMP are investigating two separate drowning incidents that claimed the lives of two men on Saturday. Steinbach RCMP were called to Reynolds Ponds in the Rural Municipality of Reynolds around 2 p.m. Officers were told a man had been swimming when he suddenly disappeared beneath the surface and did not come up. Bystanders were searching for the swimmer but did not find the man. The Manitoba RCMP Underwater Recovery Team was deployed to assist in the search. A 70-year-old man from Ontario was later found dead. Drowning in Grand Beach Later that evening, Selkirk RCMP responded to another drowning at Grand Beach around 8 p.m. Police were told two men had gone out onto the lake on a pool floatation device, then the men lost their balance and fell into the water. One man was rescued by a nearby kayaker, but the second man did not resurface. The Underwater Recovery Team located the body of a 25-year-old Winnipeg man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
