
Two men dead after separate drownings in Manitoba
Steinbach RCMP were called to Reynolds Ponds in the Rural Municipality of Reynolds around 2 p.m.
Officers were told a man had been swimming when he suddenly disappeared beneath the surface and did not come up. Bystanders were searching for the swimmer but did not find the man.
The Manitoba RCMP Underwater Recovery Team was deployed to assist in the search. A 70-year-old man from Ontario was later found dead.
Drowning in Grand Beach
Later that evening, Selkirk RCMP responded to another drowning at Grand Beach around 8 p.m. Police were told two men had gone out onto the lake on a pool floatation device, then the men lost their balance and fell into the water.
One man was rescued by a nearby kayaker, but the second man did not resurface. The Underwater Recovery Team located the body of a 25-year-old Winnipeg man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.

Sudbury driver caught going 100km/h in a 50km/h zone

Authorities said OPP attempted to pull over a vehicle on Aug. 5, after it was clocked travelling over the posted 50 km/h speed limit in the area. 'The vehicle failed to stop for police when emergency lights were activated and continued driving west,' OPP said in a social media post. The suspect was later located and stopped in Markstay-Warren. OPP Const. Rob Lewis, in an email to CTV News, confirmed that the vehicle was travelling 100 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. As a result of the incident, the driver, who holds a Class G1 licence, was charged with stunt driving, failing to stop for emergency vehicles and operating a vehicle without a qualified accompanying driver. In addition to the charges, the accused received a 30-day driver's licence suspension and the vehicle involved was impounded for 14 days 'at the cost of the owner.' Police to provide update on death of international student struck by stray bullet in Hamilton
Hamilton police identified 21-year-old Harsimrat Randhawa as the victim who died in a shooting on April 17. (Hamilton Police Service) Police will be providing an update this morning on the death of a 21-year-old international student who was struck by a stray bullet in Hamilton last spring. Harsimrat Randhawa was shot and killed on Upper James Street in Hamilton on April 17. Police previously said the international student from India was studying at Mohawk College and was shot while waiting for a bus. Investigators said the woman was an innocent bystander and was shot by suspects who were inside a vehicle. Police seek arsonists for Bradford West Gwillimbury fires

A police car on patrol near Professor Day Drive and Holland Street West saw the smoke and headed over to the school Sunday night. There, both police and firefighters found a portable toilet on fire. Later that night, South Simcoe Police responded to a call about people with a gas can attempting to light things on fire in the same area where the first fire occurred. Once again, police and firefighters arrived and this time found a garbage can on fire with a gas can located nearby. After canvassing the area, witnesses told police about seeing a man and woman walking towards St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School. Police are investigating both incidents and believe that they may be related. South Simcoe Police are appealing to anyone with information or video footage from Sunday in the areas of Fieldcrest Elementary School and St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School to contact Police Const.
