Delightful Trailer for Richard Linklater's BLUE MOON Starring Ethan Hawke and Margaret Qualley — GeekTyrant
A delightful trailer has been released for director Richard Linklater's latest film, Blue Moon , starring Ethan Hawke, Andrew Scott, Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale, and Giles Surridge. The film reunites Linklater and Ethan Hawke after the pair made the Before Sunrise trilogy, as well as Boyhood and other projects. While Linklater is known for writing and directing heartfelt fictional dramas, this new film is based on a true story. The synopsis reads: 'Richard Linklater's Blue Moon tells the story of the legendary lyricist Lorenz Hart bravely facing the future as his professional and private life unravel during the opening night party for his former partner Richard Rodgers' hit stage show, Oklahoma! . In 100 minutes, the film unspools in real-time the events in Sardi's bar on the evening of March 31st, 1943. 'It is a meditation on friendship, art & love, featuring a rich tapestry of writers, actors, musicians, friends and protégés – a parade of the famous and the soon-to-be-famous. By the time this night is over, Hart will have confronted both a world irrevocably changed by the war, and the seeming impossibility of love.' This looks like a great movie, and it has already received great reviews out of its premiere at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival. Check out the trailer below, and watch Blue Moon in select theaters this fall, on October 17th.

Sony Pictures Classics has debuted the first trailer for Blue Moon, its songwriter drama marking the ninth collaboration between filmmaker Richard Linklater and actor Ethan Hawke, which is slated to hit theaters in Los Angeles and New York on October 17, before expanding nationwide on October 24. The film is set primarily in Sardi's Restaurant on March 31, 1943, the opening night of Oklahoma!, which marked Rodgers' first collaboration with Oscar Hammerstein II as Hart's replacement. Missed Jonathan Groff and Daniel Radcliffe in Broadway's Merrily We Roll Along? It's coming to movie theaters this fall
We may never see Richard Linklater's film adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical Merrily We Roll Along —starring Ben Platt, Beanie Feldstein and Paul Mescal, the movie, shot in real time to mirror the passing of 30 years in the story, isn't set to finish shooting until 2039. But luckily, another, equally star-studded version of the classic musical is coming to theaters later this year. A live capture of the Tony-winning Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Along will premiere in movie theaters on December 5, an early holiday gift for theater lovers and Sondheim fans courtesy of Sony Pictures Classics and Fathom Entertainment. Directed by Maria Friedman and starring Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez, the production follows three best friends from the end of their decades-long friendship to its very beginnings, as they grapple with fame, success and thwarted romance. George Furth wrote the musical's book, an adaptation of a Moss Hart-George S. Kaufman play. Merrily We Roll Along opened on Broadway on October 10, 2023, and closed July 7, 2024, after extending its run. 'This is a show that makes demands of its audience, perhaps sometimes unreasonable ones,' Time Out New York's Adam Feldman wrote in his five-star review. 'But as Charley sings during a loving argument with his friends: 'What's the point of demands you can meet?' Friedman's production meets the audience halfway, and a Broadway audience today just might be able to make up the difference as it couldn't in 1981. Cross your fingers: It might finally be Merrily's time.' Reviving an infamous flop that ran for just 16 performances in its first Broadway incarnation, this Merrily We Roll Along set box office records after transferring from Off-Broadway to the Hudson Theater, winning Tony Awards for Best Revival of a Musical, Best Orchestrations for Jonathan Tunick, Leading Actor in a Musical for Groff and Featured Actor in a Musical for Radcliffe. The score boasts some of Sondheim's most-loved songs, including 'Not a Day Goes By,' 'Old Friends,' and 'Good Thing Going.' The cast also includes Krystal Joy Brown, Katie Rose Clarke, and Reg Rogers.

Post-Cannes, here are 5 international films to watch out for at the 2026 Oscars
The 2025 Cannes Film Festival winners were unveiled on Saturday, with all of the major prizes going to international films, putting many potential 2026 Oscar contenders on the map and setting the stage for what will be an exciting awards derby. Recently, as a result of the Academy's expansion of voting members, there have been more international features in the top categories at the Oscars. The past two years have seen double the tally in Best Picture. With Cannes being the biggest kingmaker for films on the road to the Oscars, as seen with Best Picture winners Parasite and Anora and Best Picture nominee Anatomy of a Fall, below are the biggest international competitors to keep an eye on. More from GoldDerby Jennifer Lopez sets Vegas residency, Richard Linklater's 'Nouvelle Vague' lands at Netflix, and more of today's top stories How designer Marg Horwell transforms Sarah Snook in 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' through quick costume changes (exclusive images) 'The Last of Us' director Kate Herron on bringing the Ellie and Dina relationship to the show: 'It was a privilege' Categories to watch: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best International Feature Film Jafar Panahi becomes the fourth director to win the Palme d'Or, the Golden Bear at Berlin International Film Festival, and the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival, after Henri-Georges Clouzot, Michelangelo Antonioni, and Robert Altman. The Iranian thriller, picked up by Neon, follows five former prisoners questioning what to do with the man who tortured them as well as his identity. This complex morality tale was made illegally without permission from the Iranian authorities, making it unlikely that the country will submit the film for Best International Feature, leaving either France or Luxembourg to carry the weight as part of their co-production. Despite the specific gear towards the Iranian regime, this movie has proven that it can resonate with audiences with its top prize victory at Cannes. The Palme d'Or champ has received a Best Picture Oscar nomination four of the last five years. Main categories that will help it secure one of the 10 slots would be Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for Panahi, whose journey of imprisonment and bans as a result of his political and artistic revolutions, can garner the passionate support of the highbrow directors' branch, as well as the film's layered monologues. Put all those nominations together, and It Was Just An Accident could follow the trajectory of Drive My Car and Palme d'Or winner Triangle of Sadness. PascalCategories to watch: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress x2, Best Original Screenplay, Best International Feature It is safe to say the more certain bet for Neon would be Sentimental Value — which was the favorite going into the festival — if for no other reason than purely because the Academy is more familiar with director Joachim Trier's work, having nominated him in Best Original Screenplay for The Worst Person In The World (with co-writer Eskil Vogt) to go with the movie's bid in Best International Feature for Norway. This year, the writers reunite with their leading actress and Cannes winner Renate Reinsve in this family dramedy about estranged daughters and their director father, who abandoned them, coming to terms with their past with an autobiographical film. Sentimental Value has more broad appeal, starting with its cast that includes Stellan Skarsgård, Elle Fanning, and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, all acting contenders, and with a mixture of well-known creatives and continuing raves from critics, this will be a surefire hit in multiple leading categories. Categories to watch: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, Best International Feature Another Neon grab, The Secret Agent ended up following the same route as Emilia Pérez last year at Cannes, securing multiple major awards at the festival with Best Director for Kleber Mendonça Filho and Best Actor for Wagner Moura, making them both Oscar challengers in their respective categories. The political thriller about a teacher on the run, hoping to reunite with his son in the midst of the Brazilian military dictatorship, mirrors last year's Best International Feature Oscar winner I'm Still Here, whose Best Picture nomination was one of the biggest shockers (Walter Salles' biopic similarly also was cited for its lead star Fernanda Torres). While the aforementioned two Cannes films may be prioritized by the studio, the last two years of the festival produced three Best Picture nominees, and one should never underestimate the passion and impact of the large Brazilian audience when it comes to the top category. Categories to watch: Best International Feature These two movies tied for the third place Jury Prize and both have the potential to fill the rest of the five International Feature slots. The Laxe drama, acquired by Neon and a co-production of France and Spain, centers on a father in the deserts of Morocco searching for his missing daughter, while the German film is an abstract exploration of a century of four generations of young girls connected by one particular farmhouse, directed by Schilinski and soon-to-be distributed by Mubi.
