Liquidators appointed to orchard but secrecy surrounds details

Liquidators have been appointed for Ardgour Valley Orchards, near Tarras, but information is scant on what exactly is happening. An advertisement in the Otago Daily Times earlier this week said liquidators had been appointed for Ardgour Valley Orchards GP and Ardgour Valley Orchards LP. The liquidation decision was made by the special resolution of the shareholders on August 10, and the limited partnership, also on August 10. Liquidators Diana Matchett and Colin Gower, of BDO in Christchurch, had been appointed and had given notice all creditors should make a claim by September 5. Ardgour Valley Orchards was situated on part of Ardgour Station. Ardgour Station in Tarras has been sold to Santana Minerals for gold mine operations on the Rise and Shine claim but the 38ha where the trees were situated was not part of the sale. Bruce and Linda Jolly sold the farm, which had been in the family for 70 years, for $25million to the mining company. The orchard was started by Mr Jolly and his wife Linda along with Ross and Sharon Kirk. The orchard was owned by a group of 15 shareholders and run by a management team, according to the company website. The Jollys and a company linked to the Kirks have more than 75% of the shares in Ardgour Valley Orchards GP. Mr Jolly could not be contacted. The orchard had 15,000 apricot trees and 15,200 cherry trees. They had grown the new brand of Summer apricot this season, with about 100 tonnes exported. The website said upwards of 200 people worked at the orchard at peak times. A call to Ardgour Valley Orchards referred all questions to Ms Matchett, who did not reply to phone and email messages.

Siphsihle Ndlovu strike downs Polokwane City as Kaizer Chiefs' continue perfect league start

While Chiefs are seemingly cruising, Rise and Shine are enduring a slow start to the season and haven't scored in their opening three matches. Polokwane lost their opening game to Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 quarter-final and drew 0-0 with Magesi in their league opener on Saturday. With some of the new signings — Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, and Flavio Silva — still awaiting the finalisation of their paperwork, the team could yet become even stronger. It's still early days in the new season — the league is contested over 30 matches — but Chiefs are showing strong signs of improvement from last season's campaign. Chiefs have now won both matches since the start of the Betway Premiership season, and are yet to concede, having beaten Stellenbosch 2-0 on Sunday. Siphesihle Ndlovu's solitary goal handed Kaizer Chiefs all three points as they beat Polokwane City 1-0 at a chilly FNB Stadium on Wednesday night. Escape will cancel and close the window. Having kept three clean sheets and scored seven goals in his last three matches in charge, Khalil Ben Youssef was looking for his fourth consecutive win here. And he achieved just that. The Chiefs assistant coach, who is holding the fort for head coach Nasreddine Nabi — currently back home due to a family emergency — guided the side to a 1-0 win over City. Youssef's team produced a controlled performance, although the match lacked fluidity due to frequent stoppages during much of the first half. He did his best to fire up his players, staying on his feet throughout both halves and barking instructions from the touchline. The Chiefs players needed that wake-up call early on, as they started sluggishly, allowing Rise and Shine plenty of time and space on the ball. The visitors, however, failed to capitalise on the freedom they were afforded, with their best chance coming when Manuel Kambala forced a brilliant save from Brandon Petersen. Youssef's instructions seemed to pay off as Chiefs began playing with more vigour, taking the game to the visitors with some excellent passages of play. But for all their slick build-up, Chiefs still lacked the crucial cutting edge in the final third, often losing possession too easily. So when Youssef replaced Mduduzi Shabalala with Nkosingiphile Ngcobo — who scored a beautiful set-piece against Stellenbosch — at half-time, it came as no surprise. Ngcobo tried his best to spark the team going forward, but Chiefs still struggled in attack, continuing to surrender possession cheaply. The problem extended beyond the forwards, as Youssef's decision to replace right-back Thabiso Monyane with Reeve Frosler was met with loud boos from the stands. Amakhosi fans did, however, find a moment of joy when Paseka Mako made his debut to loud chants and cheers. Mako was signed during the ongoing transfer window after leaving Chiefs' neighbours, Orlando Pirates, where he won multiple trophies. That excitement grew moments later when Siphesihle Ndlovu, making only his second appearance of the season, made it count with a goal. Ndlovu struck from close range after City's poor defending allowed a loose ball to fall kindly for Frosler, who teed him up perfectly. The 28-year-old's strike was enough to hand Chiefs all three points, keeping their early-season dream alive under Youssef's guidance.

How Kylie Jenner Celebrated Her 28th Birthday

Kylie Jenner just turned 28, and celebrated in a way that's best described as perfect: by making her loved ones (including Hailey Bieber) paint her iconic "Rise and Shine" meme. The results? Equal parts amazing and terrifying. After spending their afternoon creating art and (presumably) fielding calls from The Met / Louvre, Kylie celebrated with a party at her sister Kendall Jenner's house. Before you ask, nope, Timothée Chalamet didn't appear in any of the footage from Kylie's celebrations—though that doesn't mean he wasn't there painting a stunning rendition of her "Rise and Shine" meme. The pair were last seen on a group vacation in St. Tropez, before Lil Timmy Tim left to film the third installment of Dune around Europe. A source told People early last month that the pair are "used to this kind of schedule," that Kylie "will fly to see him when she can" while Dune is in production, and that "they're still very happy and just making it work." They added that Timothée "knows the next few months will be exhausting, so he's taking a moment to just relax and reset." Another insider said that "Timothée starts filming Dune: Messiah in Prague this week. It's a long, demanding shoot that will take them all over the world. He'll be reunited with Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa, and more." like Timmy is still filming, but hopefully he and Kylie get a chance to celebrate together!

Orlando Pirates news: Kaizer Chiefs sniped, R10 million midfielder

Orlando Pirates have yet again beaten Kaizer Chiefs to a prized player. This time it's Polokwane City winger Oswin Appollis. Both clubs tried to sign the 23-year-old in January and last offseason but were met with rejection on both occasions as Appollis continued to prove himself as one of South Africa's best. The second half of last season saw a decline in performance, and it is perhaps because of this why Rise and Shine were willing to let their main man go. According to reports, Orlando Pirates eyeing JS Kabylie midfielder Sadio Kanoute. 'According to Africafoot , the Soweto giants are considering tabling an offer in the region of €500,000 (approximately R10 million) to lure Kanoute, who previously turned out for Simba SC in Tanzania,' a SoccerLaduma report revealed. In other news, there is growing concern that Orlando Pirates may see their golden boy Relebohile Mofokeng leave this winter. 'My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I'm praying every day. I don't want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,' Sechaba said '[Whether it's in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I'll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia,' he added. 'Not yet. He's still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won't experience that. Yes, he'd be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you're not happy, it's worthless.'
