Pierre woman making mental health help more accessible

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – A woman from Pierre is being recognized for her work in making mental health resources more accessible for people across South Dakota and beyond. Jill Janecke is one of this year's Remarkable Women winners. Janecke has spent the last 12 years building up Rising Hope Counseling, a clinic designed to help anyone no matter where they live improve their mental health. 'Sometimes I think in rural areas, in our communities, it's like a such a private thing and that you're not supposed to talk about it. And being there and being the, you know, a shine of hope in those communities and letting them know it's okay to talk,' Janecke said. Rising Hope Counseling started in Pierre in 2013 and now has over 20 locations across the state, as well as services in Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska. Janecke says she feels honored so many people have been positively impacted by her work. And is excited to head out to Hollywood to meet other remarkable women across the country. 'When you're in a business and you're always helping other people, it'll be awesome just to be able to take that time and and have some self-care, which is always super important in our industry as well,' Janecke said. Janecke was awarded a $1,000 donation to a charity of her choice from KELOLAND Media Group. Janecke said the money will be used to continue her mission at Rising Hope and uplift the staff who help patients everyday. 'Rising Hope has a mission to help everyone in rural areas. And really, all of South Dakota is rural. And so my individual as Jill Janecke, my really passion is to look at my remarkable staff and how can I make sure that they're healthy,' Janecke said. And now she is being recognized for all her hard work. Janecke, along with our other winner Abby Martinez, will travel to Hollywood, California mid-April for the national Remarkable Women conference, where they will both represent South Dakota.
