Animation industry shows potential, funding likely

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's animation industry could soon get a boost, with the government set to unveil fresh initiatives in Parliament next week. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil ( pic ) said the initiatives, involving the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) and MyCreative Ventures (MyCV), will be revealed during his winding-up speech in the Dewan Rakyat. 'My instructions to MyCV and Finas are that, aside from preparing funds, we must also look into several aspects of production such as funding from the corporate banking sector,' said Fahmi at a press conference after announcing the Riuh X Asean event yesterday. According to Fahmi, the corporate banking sector sees the creative industry, especially animation, as a profitable venture. 'We want synergy between the corporate sector and the creative industry. God willing, MyCV and Finas will help facilitate this,' he said. Fahmi added that Finas is also working to strengthen intellectual property (IP) rights in Malaysia's film industry to help local productions penetrate Asean markets. 'Among the efforts is establishing a network to elevate local IPs to the Asean level,' he said. On the Riuh X Asean 2025 event, Fahmi said it will be held from Oct 17 to 26, with the venue to be announced later. The event is expected to draw 20,000 to 30,000 visitors and will showcase arts, music, creativity and entrepreneurship in line with the Asean 2025 theme of unity, inclusivity and sustainability. Highlights include the Riuh X Asean Marketplace, from Oct 22 to 26, and featuring over 40 stage performances, 30 interactive workshops and 100 food vendors from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. Another event is FrequenSEA, the first Asean music conference, set for Oct 21 and 22 in Kuala Lumpur. Admission is free, with more than 200 musicians, publishers and industry leaders expected to attend.

Photo: Handout The Communications Ministry, through MyCreative Ventures, will be organising Riuh X Asean 2025 in Kuala Lumpur from Oct 17-26, in conjunction with Malaysia's Asean Chairmanship this year. Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said that the event is set to become South-East Asia's largest creative showcase, fostering cross-border collaboration and new economic opportunities among Asean's creative and entrepreneurial communities. "This event brings together art, creativity, music, and entrepreneurship from Malaysia and fellow Asean nations, reflecting the ASEAN 2025 vision of unity, inclusivity, and sustainability,' he said at a press conference on the Riuh Hangout 2025 in Kuala Lumpur today. In the lead-up to the main event, a Riuh Gallery pop-up series will begin on Oct 1, taking place at key locations across the Klang Valley, with activities that include indie music showcases, comedy acts, literary and spoken word sessions, and visual art exhibitions, aimed at giving local talents a platform to showcase their work and engage with the public. FrequenSEA, which will be Asean's first dedicated music conference, is also slated to be held on Oct 21 and 22. "This conference is expected to attract over 200 participants, including musicians, producers, content creators, and industry leaders, to discuss the future of South-East Asia's music industry,' he said. According to Fahmi, the highlight of the event is the Riuh X Asean Marketplace, which will take place from Oct 22-26, featuring over 200 brands and 100 food and beverage vendors from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. "The marketplace will also host over 40 stage performances, 30 interactive workshops, and 20 creative activations, serving as an industry networking hub for regional entrepreneurs and creative talents,' he said. Meanwhile, Riuh Merdeka 2025 will debut as a non-stop 30-hour celebration at the parking grounds of the Monumen Alaf Baru in Putrajaya. The event will feature Malaysian-themed performances, community activities, and cultural showcases designed to promote national unity through the arts, music, and local creativity. Fahmi also announced that the event will include an expanded offering of Menu Rahmah to ensure all visitors can enjoy local cuisine at reasonable prices. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — Communication Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has announced a massive celebration of South-east Asian music, arts and culture at the upcoming Riuh X Asean 2025. Taking place from October 17 to October 26 around KL, the Riuh X Asean 2025 which aims to foster cross-border collaborations and new economic opportunities among Asean countries, is also held in conjunction with Malaysia assuming the Asean chairmanship this year. Fahmi said that amongst the main highlights of the showcase is the Riuh X Asean Marketplace which will take place from October 22 to October 26. The marketplace will feature over 200 brands and over 100 food and beverage vendors coming from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. It will also have over 40 live performances along with 30 interactive workshops as well as 20 creative activation programmes, which include networking sessions amongst entrepreneurs and creative industry players from all over the world. 'This event brings together art, creativity, music and entrepreneurship from Malaysia and fellow Asean nations.'This further reflects the Asean 2025 vision of unity, inclusivity and sustainability,' Fahmi said. On top of the marketplace, the Riuh X Asean 2025 will also introduce the first ever Asean music conference coined as FrequenSEA, which will be happening from October 21 to October 22. Around 200 participants, from musicians, producers to industry leaders from the region are expected to join in the inaugural music conference which aims to discuss the future of the SEA music industry. Besides that, building up to the main event, Riuh will also organised a series of pop-up gallery around the Klang Valley starting from October 1. The pop-ups will include several showcases including music showcases, comedy acts, spoken word and poetry sessions as well as art added that they are expecting over 30,000 attendees throughout the Riuh X Asean 2025 showcase.

"Next week, I will give a wrapping-up speech in Parliament and there may be a few questions which I will answer officially at the Dewan Rakyat. "My instructions to MyCV and Finas is that aside from preparing funds, we have to look into several aspects of production such as funding from the corporate banking sector," he said at a press conference after announcing the Riuh X Asean event on Thursday (Aug 14). Fahmi said the corporate banking sector is of the view that the creative industry, particularly the animation sector, is profitable. "We want a synergy between the corporate sector and the creative industry. God-willing, MyCV and Finas will facilitate this," he said. At the same time, Fahmi said Finas is currently working hard to strengthen Malaysia's film industry's intellectual property (IP) rights. "Among Finas' efforts are setting up a network which will facilitate locally produced IPs to be brought to the Asean level," he added. Meanwhile, Fahmi said the Riuh X Asean 2025 event would take place from Oct 17 to 26 at a venue to be announced later. Fahmi is expecting 20,000 to 30,000 to attend the event, which is the first of its kind. "This will gather all elements of art, creativity, music and entrepreneurship from Malaysia and Asean, which is true to the theme of Asean 2025 that emphasises unity, inclusivity and sustainability," he said. Among the fringe events taking place over the 10 days is the Riuh X Asean Marketplace. Fahmi said there will be, among others, over 40 stage performances, 30 interactive workshops, 100 food vendors from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. Other events include FrequenSEA, said Fahmi, which is the first Asean music conference that will be held on Oct 21 and 22. Fahmi said admission to the music conference is free and he is targeting over 200 participants including musicians, publishers, and industry leaders to discuss the future of the music industry in South-East Asia.
