Riuh x Asean 2025 to light up KL as region's largest creative showcase
The Communications Ministry, through MyCreative Ventures, will be organising Riuh X Asean 2025 in Kuala Lumpur from Oct 17-26, in conjunction with Malaysia's Asean Chairmanship this year.
Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said that the event is set to become South-East Asia's largest creative showcase, fostering cross-border collaboration and new economic opportunities among Asean's creative and entrepreneurial communities.
"This event brings together art, creativity, music, and entrepreneurship from Malaysia and fellow Asean nations, reflecting the ASEAN 2025 vision of unity, inclusivity, and sustainability,' he said at a press conference on the Riuh Hangout 2025 in Kuala Lumpur today.
In the lead-up to the main event, a Riuh Gallery pop-up series will begin on Oct 1, taking place at key locations across the Klang Valley, with activities that include indie music showcases, comedy acts, literary and spoken word sessions, and visual art exhibitions, aimed at giving local talents a platform to showcase their work and engage with the public.
FrequenSEA, which will be Asean's first dedicated music conference, is also slated to be held on Oct 21 and 22.
"This conference is expected to attract over 200 participants, including musicians, producers, content creators, and industry leaders, to discuss the future of South-East Asia's music industry,' he said.
According to Fahmi, the highlight of the event is the Riuh X Asean Marketplace, which will take place from Oct 22-26, featuring over 200 brands and 100 food and beverage vendors from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
"The marketplace will also host over 40 stage performances, 30 interactive workshops, and 20 creative activations, serving as an industry networking hub for regional entrepreneurs and creative talents,' he said.
Meanwhile, Riuh Merdeka 2025 will debut as a non-stop 30-hour celebration at the parking grounds of the Monumen Alaf Baru in Putrajaya. The event will feature Malaysian-themed performances, community activities, and cultural showcases designed to promote national unity through the arts, music, and local creativity.
Fahmi also announced that the event will include an expanded offering of Menu Rahmah to ensure all visitors can enjoy local cuisine at reasonable prices. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Biduanita Negara Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, Dayang Nurfaizah, Aina Abdul and Ernie Zakri are "leaders of the pack" amongst the top five nominees for Anugerah Industri Muzik 24's (AIM 24) 26 categories. They have six to nine nominations each, in five to eight categories. AIM 24 which is supported by the Communications Ministry and organised by the Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM) will be held at 8.30pm on Sept 13 at the Arena of Stars in Resorts World Genting. At a press conference held at Premiera Hotel in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman yesterday, RIM chairman and AIM24 organising chairman Rosmin Hashim announced that a total of 130 finalists were shortlisted for the 26 categories. "The selection of the five finalists in each category were made by a panel of professional jurors, with the scoring fully audited by certified audit firm Mazars. "The judging process was administered by an independent body, Macomm Management Services Sdn Bhd," he said. The Best Album winner will receive RM200,000 while the Best New Artiste, Best Ethnic Song, Best Nasyid Song, Best Traditional Song, Best Unity Song, Best Local English Song, Best Local Chinese Song, Best Local Indian Song, Best Song and Best Music Video will each receive RM50,000. Winners of 11 selected categories will stand to receive a share of RM700,000 in Creative Content Funds from the Ministry of Communications via MyCreative Ventures (MyCV). Rosmin said that earlier this year, RIM received a total of 682 nominations covering recordings released during the eligibility period of July 1, 2022 to Dec 31, 2024. "The first phase of judging for the Best Song Recording and Best Album Recording categories took place at Timeless Studio on July 14 and 15, followed by the remaining categories at Hotel Majestic Kuala Lumpur from July 21 to 23. "The Best Song judging was held at Timeless Studio on July 29," he said. The judging panel comprises highly qualified local music industry professionals, including composers, lyricists, musicians, singers, producers, arrangers, vocal coaches and video directors. The judging panel is headed by renowned music director Datuk Mokhzani Ismail. The event will be broadcast live on TV2 and RTM Klik. Rosmin said: "Six categories will be announced during the Pre-Awards Ceremony on Sept 12 namely Best Single/Album Cover, Best Album Recording, Best Song Recording, Best Musical Arrangement in a Song, Most Streamed Song and Most Viewed Official Music Video on YouTube. "The remaining 24 major categories will be announced during the awards show." The press conference was also attended by Broadcasting director-general Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman and Communications Ministry senior principal assistant secretary Noreen Iszani Yusak and some of the artistes, composers and lyricists nominated for awards.

Animation industry shows potential, funding likely
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's animation industry could soon get a boost, with the government set to unveil fresh initiatives in Parliament next week. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil ( pic ) said the initiatives, involving the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) and MyCreative Ventures (MyCV), will be revealed during his winding-up speech in the Dewan Rakyat. 'My instructions to MyCV and Finas are that, aside from preparing funds, we must also look into several aspects of production such as funding from the corporate banking sector,' said Fahmi at a press conference after announcing the Riuh X Asean event yesterday. According to Fahmi, the corporate banking sector sees the creative industry, especially animation, as a profitable venture. 'We want synergy between the corporate sector and the creative industry. God willing, MyCV and Finas will help facilitate this,' he said. Fahmi added that Finas is also working to strengthen intellectual property (IP) rights in Malaysia's film industry to help local productions penetrate Asean markets. 'Among the efforts is establishing a network to elevate local IPs to the Asean level,' he said. On the Riuh X Asean 2025 event, Fahmi said it will be held from Oct 17 to 26, with the venue to be announced later. The event is expected to draw 20,000 to 30,000 visitors and will showcase arts, music, creativity and entrepreneurship in line with the Asean 2025 theme of unity, inclusivity and sustainability.
