Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said that the event is set to become South-East Asia's largest creative showcase, fostering cross-border collaboration and new economic opportunities among Asean's creative and entrepreneurial communities. "This event brings together art, creativity, music, and entrepreneurship from Malaysia and fellow Asean nations, reflecting the ASEAN 2025 vision of unity, inclusivity, and sustainability,' he said at a press conference on the Riuh Hangout 2025 in Kuala Lumpur today. In the lead-up to the main event, a Riuh Gallery pop-up series will begin on Oct 1, taking place at key locations across the Klang Valley, with activities that include indie music showcases, comedy acts, literary and spoken word sessions, and visual art exhibitions, aimed at giving local talents a platform to showcase their work and engage with the public. FrequenSEA, which will be Asean's first dedicated music conference, is also slated to be held on Oct 21 and 22. "This conference is expected to attract over 200 participants, including musicians, producers, content creators, and industry leaders, to discuss the future of South-East Asia's music industry,' he said. According to Fahmi, the highlight of the event is the Riuh X Asean Marketplace, which will take place from Oct 22-26, featuring over 200 brands and 100 food and beverage vendors from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. "The marketplace will also host over 40 stage performances, 30 interactive workshops, and 20 creative activations, serving as an industry networking hub for regional entrepreneurs and creative talents,' he said. Meanwhile, Riuh Merdeka 2025 will debut as a non-stop 30-hour celebration at the parking grounds of the Monumen Alaf Baru in Putrajaya. The event will feature Malaysian-themed performances, community activities, and cultural showcases designed to promote national unity through the arts, music, and local creativity. Fahmi also announced that the event will include an expanded offering of Menu Rahmah to ensure all visitors can enjoy local cuisine at reasonable prices. - Bernama

Riuh x Asean to bring together 200 brands, 100 F&B vendors from region
SENTUL: The Communications Ministry, through MyCreative Ventures, will host two Riuh events this year, including one marking Malaysia's Asean chairmanship. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the two events would be Riuh x Asean, the largest edition of the festival, running from Oct 17 to 26, and Riuh Merdeka 2025, a 30-hour non-stop celebration on Aug 30 and 31. Fahmi said Riuh x Asean would create cross-border opportunities for the regional creative and business community, while bringing together art, music, and entrepreneurship from Malaysia and other Asean countries. "One of its main components, the Riuh x Asean Marketplace, will run from Oct 22 to 26 in Kuala Lumpur, featuring over 200 retail brands and more than 100 food and beverage vendors from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. "The programme will also showcase over 40 stage performances, 30 interactive workshops, and 20 creative activations, including industry networking sessions for entrepreneurs and creative practitioners from various countries," he told a press conference here today. Fahmi said FrequenSEA, the first Asean music conference, would be held on Oct 21 and 22 in Kuala Lumpur. He said it would bring together over 200 musicians, producers, creators, and industry leaders to discuss the future of Southeast Asia's music industry. Meanwhile, he said Riuh Merdeka 2025 would be staged at the New Millennium Monument car park in Putrajaya on Aug 30 and 31. The non-stop, 30-hour celebration will feature performances by Yuna, Misha Omar, Pop Shuvit, Aliff Satar, The Locos, IamNeeta, and more, alongside fireworks displays and a creative market showcasing local brands and crafts. Fahmi said that for each event, the ministry expected between 20,000 and 30,000 visitors. "For Riuh Merdeka, as it will be held in conjunction with Hari Merdeka celebrations in Putrajaya, and it falls on a Sunday, we anticipate that it is not impossible for the number to exceed that, especially after the National Day parade," he said. He said the Riuh management team had been instructed to ensure a wide variety of Menu Rahmah options would be available for the many families expected to attend.

Malaysia boosts regional expansion for local films and animation IPs
KUALA LUMPUR: The government is enhancing regional cooperation to expand the reach of Malaysia's creative intellectual properties (IPs), including films and animation, into ASEAN markets. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stated that Finas is actively forming strategic partnerships to facilitate Malaysian creative IPs in high-potential markets like Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia. 'We've seen how Upin & Ipin received tremendous response in Indonesia. Several local films have also successfully penetrated markets like Vietnam and Cambodia,' he said. Fahmi added that these efforts will be intensified to create more opportunities for local creative industry players. He made these remarks at the Riuh Hangout 2025 event organised by MyCreative Ventures, following the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which highlights the creative economy as a key growth driver. Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching and Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa were also present. Fahmi explained that Finas and MyCreative Ventures will not only provide funding but also facilitate collaborations between animation creators and corporate banking institutions. 'We want to foster synergy between the corporate banking sector and the creative industry in terms of financing,' he said. He noted that licensing and distribution matters will be handled by Finas to streamline the process. This initiative aligns with the 13MP's focus on boosting the creative economy through export market expansion and global competitiveness. Further details on the initiative will be presented during Fahmi's winding-up speech in Parliament on Aug 20. - Bernama

Riuh Merdeka 2025: 30-hour marketplace, star-studded performances, and exciting new initiatives for Malaysia's creative economy
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — Local curators market Riuh will be hosting a 30 hour non-stop marketplace in conjunction with the 68th Merdeka celebration this year. The Riuh Merdeka 2025 which will take place at the carpark area in front of the Millineum Monument (Monumen Alaf Baru) in Putrajaya is set to run for 30 hours straight, starting from August 30 until August 31. Communication Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said that the two-day event which is in collaboration with MyCreative Ventures (MCV), is expecting a crowd of over 30,000. He also said the turnout might be higher especially on August 31 as it will coincide with the Merdeka Day parade which is happening in Putrajaya as well. 'Throughout the 30 hours, attendees will be served with a wide array of vendors including fashion, accessories, beauty products as well as food and beverages (F&B). 'There will also be a slew of live performances by local artists such as Yuna, Misha Omar, Pop Shuvit, Alif Satar & The Locos, IAmNeeta and many more,' Fahmi said. There will be over 82 F&B vendors along with a Merdeka firework display. Fahmi added that for Riuh Merdeka 2025, he has instructed the Riuh team to offer more 'Menu Rahmah' at the event. Aside from that, Fahmi, who is set to present his answers on the Malaysia's creative economy in Parliament on August 20 has also hinted at a few new initiatives for the local animation industry. He said that he has instructed both MCV and the Malaysian Film Development Corporation (Finas) to also focus on the animation production aspect, specifically on securing funders for animation projects. Fahmi revealed that the corporate banking sector are beginning to understand the potential of local animation, which can generate income. He urged for more synergy between the corporate banking industry and the local creative players while also pointing out that Finas and MCV are open to facilitating their collaboration. Fahmi also said that Finas is also working hard to establish a network that could help ease the process of bringing local Intellectual Property (IP) to international markets, starting with bringing local IP to Asean countries. He added that local IP such as Upin & Ipin is proof that Malaysian IPs has the capability to penetrate these markets. Previously during the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) press conference, Fahmi said that the government is focusing on strengthening the creative economy to boost Malaysia's competitiveness and produce high-value content for both the local and international markets.
