Where LSU football's recruiting class ranks in SEC after Tyler Atkinson commits to Texas

A massive recruiting domino fell on Tuesday with five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson committing to Texas. With Atkinson's commitment, only four five-stars remain on the board, according to the Rivals' Industry Rankings. But Atkinson's pledge wasn't enough to push Texas past LSU. Per Rivals, Brian Kelly's 2026 class ranks No. 4 in the SEC and No. 7 nationally. Texas ranks No. 5 in the SEC and No. 9 nationally. Atkinson became the third five-star to commit to Texas, which ranks second nationally. Alabama has the most five-stars with four in the fold. LSU may not have the volume of a top-ranked class yet, but the Tigers rank No. 2 nationally with an average recruit rating of 91.79. Only Oregon has a better mark at 92.20. LSU has the pieces to make a run at a recruiting title. Let's take a look at the updated SEC recruiting rankings after a busy few weeks on the trail. Rivals SEC football recruiting rankings

LSU football makes top five for five-star offensive lineman. Are Tigers the favorite?

LSU made the top five for five-star offensive lineman Darius Gray, per a report from Rivals' Hayes Fawcett on Sunday. South Carolina, Clemson, Tennessee, and Ohio State also made the cut for the Richmond, VA native. He has made eight official visits since April and cut Virginia Tech, Virginia, and Georgia from his list of suitors. 247Sports is the highest on Gray, ranking him as the best prospect out of Virginia and at his position. The outlet slots him at No. 16 overall, while Rivals' Industry Rankings has him at No. 22 and No. 2 in Virginia. The six-foot-two, 285-pounder is projected to choose LSU by Rivals, which gives him a 51.1% chance to land in Baton Rouge. At this point, the Tigers are certainly the favorite, but they must get his commitment over the finish line. Should Gray commit to LSU, he would be the fifth offensive lineman in the class. It currently ranks sixth nationally and fourth in the SEC, per Rivals' Industry Rankings. Gray, considered a five-star by 247Sports, would be the fifth commit in LSU's 2026 class to be ranked a five-star by at least one of the major recruiting services. LSU has a chance to land the No. 1-ranked recruiting class in college football. Landing Gray is a pivotal part of that.

How to watch five-star LSU football target Lamar Brown announce his commitment

One of LSU football's top recruiting targets in the 2026 cycle will announce his college decision on national television. Lamar Brown, the No. 1 recruit in Louisiana, makes his announcement live at 12:15 PM CT on ESPN2 during SportsCenter. It will be televised from University High Laboratory's campus in Baton Rouge, Brown's high school. Brown's top four includes LSU, Texas A&M, Texas, and Miami. He took official visits to all four between May and June, but the Tigers and Aggies are considered the heavy favorites. The five-star prospect, considered a two-way player by some outlets, is ranked the class' top defensive lineman by 247Sports. While Brown possesses the talent to contribute on both sides, he expressed his desire to focus primarily on defense. Brown is arguably LSU's most important target in the cycle. Gaining a top-10 overall recruit from its own backyard will continue setting the standard for head coach Brian Kelly's commitment to keeping the best homegrown talent in Louisiana. Five of Louisiana's top 10 prospects, per Rivals' Industry Rankings, are already committed to the Tigers. Securing Brown's pledge would undoubtedly give LSU much-needed momentum heading into fall camp.
