Girl, seven, is 'murdered by her mother with single punch to the belly'

A Florida mother has been charged with murder after investigators determined that her seven-year-old daughter died from horrific stomach injuries. Naikishia Williams, 32, was arrested on Friday morning on accusations that she killed Nia Williams on April 28 in Riviera Beach. Medical personnel who found Nia rushed her to a nearby hospital, but they were too late to save her life. An indictment handed down on Thursday said that Nia died from blunt force trauma to her abdomen with 'premeditated design'. Williams was booked in Palm Beach County jail on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. She appeared in a county courtroom on Friday where a judge granted the state's request to hold her without bond. A two-month investigation led to the murder charges against Williams, who caretakers said was known to abuse Nia. 'She caused the death. She should have been in jail a long time ago', the girl's caretaker, Rebecca Finley, told WPTV, alongside Nia's godmother, Whytni Walker. Walker said she had contacted the Department Of Children And Families (DCF) over concerns about Williams' children just 12 days before Nia's death. She described the kids as being 'very malnourished'. Finley said Williams' other kids are now safe and being cared for. Finley added: 'There wasn't one person who was not aware of this young lady being a dangerous mother.' She called Nia a 'brilliant' child who loved make-up and was a 'fashionista'. The caretaker added that she's now committed to speaking out for Nia. Finley said: 'I'm guaranteeing she's saying, "Auntie, tell them everything. Don't forget anything".' Williams is next set to appear in court on July 28. She was assigned a public defender.

Riviera mom charged with murder of her 7-year-old daughter

RIVIERA BEACH — A Riviera Beach woman was arrested Friday on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in the death of her 7-year-old daughter. Naikishia L. Williams, who turns 32 on Sunday, was indicted by a grand jury June 25 on the two charges following the death earlier this year of Williams' daughter, identified in news reports as Nia Williams. At about 8 p.m. on April 28, Riviera Beach Police officers responded to 1501 W. 15th St. in reference to an unresponsive 7-year-old child, police said. Medical personnel took the child to St. Mary's Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The child's death 'was determined to be a homicide' after an investigation, police said, and Naikishia Williams was identified as a suspect. Early Friday, June 27, she was taken into custody and transported to the Palm Beach County Jail, where she is being held without bail. Teen charged with murder in Riviera shooting of man, 18

RIVIERA BEACH — Riviera Beach police arrested a boy Friday they believe fatally shot an 18-year-old Lake Worth Beach man who recently graduated from high school near the top of his class and whom his family said had dreams of being a firefighter. City police are charging the juvenile, whom officers are not naming, with second-degree murder in the killing of Elias Timothy Morrero, the Riviera Beach Police Department said Saturday in a news release. He is also being charged with being a minor possessing a firearm and using a firearm for a felony. The alleged killer was booked Friday, June 20, police said, and is now being held in the Juvenile Assessment Center. City police responded Thursday, June 19, to a report of a shooting in the 2800 block of Avenue S. There they found Morrero, who had stopped his car near 28th Street and Avenue S and exited the vehicle clutching his neck from a gunshot injury. Paramedics took Morrero to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, where he died. Morrero's family has set up an online fundraiser on GoFundMe for his funeral, titled "Forever 18: Remembering Elias Our Brightest Light." His family is hoping to raise $20,000. They were more than halfway to that total Saturday afternoon thanks to nearly 200 donors. Morrero had graduated from high school in May with honors, the fundraiser web page says. He was also captain of his Fire Academy class, the training program required in Florida for aspiring firefighters. And he was a big brother to five younger siblings — Elianna, Elissia, Everly, Elijah and Ezariah, the family said. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Tillman Funeral Home & Crematory.
