ESD rescues 211,354 victims in May

LAHORE: Emergency Services Department rescued 211,354 victims while responding to 210,360 emergencies across Punjab in May 2025. These emergencies includes 140,645 medical emergencies, 39,978 road traffic crashes, 5,526 falls/ slip, 4,746 crime incidents, 4,131 fire incidents, 4,003 delivery cases, 2,389 Occupational Injuries, 1,336 Animal Rescue, 1,038 electric shock, 331 burn cases, 140 drowning incidents, 96 structural collapses and 6,001 miscellaneous operations in Punjab. Expressing serious concern over 39,978 road traffic crashes, 4,131 fire emergencies and 140 drowning emergencies during the May 2025, the Secretary, Emergency Services Department (ESD) Punjab Dr Rizwan Naseer urged all citizens to ensure safety precaution while visiting water recreational sites during Eid vacations. He emphasized the importance of strictly following all safety measures, especially when engaging in swimming or other water activities. He specifically advised people not to enter the water or boat without wearing life jackets and overloading boats to avoid capsizing. As per data, 436 people died in 39,978 Road Traffic Crashes in Punjab during the last month. Out of these traffic crashes, the majority of traffic accidents 7,384 occurred in Lahore in which 38 people died. Similarly, 2,671 RTCs in Faisalabad, 2,527 RTCs in Multan, 2,139 in Gujranwala, 1,491 in Sheikhupura and 1,290 in Bahawalpur while the remaining 22,466 road traffic crashes took place in other districts of Punjab. Similarly, the majority of fire incidents took place in major districts i.e., 602 incidents in Lahore, 300 in Faisalabad, 206 in Gujranwala, 187 in Sialkot, 184 in Sheikhupura and 174 in Rawalpindi. Eid revellers warned of drowning risk

Expressing concern over an alarming figure of 92 deaths due to drowning recorded across Punjab during last month, Emergency Services Secretary Dr Rizwan Naseer has appealed to the citizens to ensure safety precautions while visiting water recreational sites during the Eid holidays. Reviewing the emergency service's performance in all districts during May, he emphasised the importance of strictly following all safety measures, especially while swimming or other activities in water. He advised the people not to enter the water or board a boat without wearing life jackets and to avoid overloading to avoid capsizing. The provincial secretary urged all citizens to ensure safety precautions while visiting the recreational sites during the hot weather. He also advised the people not to enter the water without the presence of lifeguards, to wear life jackets while boating and to remain mindful of the vessel's capacity to avoid drowning due to capsizing. Meanwhile, the Punjab government on Monday announced four Eid holidays from Friday to June 9. The data shared in the meeting revealed that 92 people had died in 140 incidents of drowning reported in Punjab during May. As many as 436 people died in 39,978 road traffic crashes in the province during the month. Of the road accidents, 7,384 occurred in Lahore, in which 38 people died, followed by 2,671 in Faisalabad, 2,527 in Multan, 2,139 in Gujranwala, 1,491 in Sheikhupura and 1,290 in Bahawalpur. The number of fire emergencies reported in Lahore was 602, Faisalabad 300, Gujranwala 206, Sialkot 187, Sheikhupura 184 and Rawalpindi 174. 70,000 volunteers complete civil defence training

LAHORE: As directed by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, more than 70,000 volunteers across Punjab have completed Civil Defence training in 48 hours. The CM noted, 'Mock rescue and civil defense exercises are also underway in the province.' She was satisfied to know, 'Secretary Emergency Services Dr Rizwan Naseer is supervising community emergency preparedness and response training, along with a training programme of Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122 to better cope with any potential emergency situations in the province. The CM was briefed, 'Duration of Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Training has been fixed at 04 hours, where volunteers are being trained in emergency services and civil defense bomb disposal. Awareness is also being given about the responsibilities of citizens and social media in an emergency situation.' She was also apprised, 'During the training, they learned about rescue and use of medical kits in emergency situations, besides preparing them for an emergency situation. Volunteers are being trained in methods of controlling blood flow, fracture management and CPR.' The Chief Minister was briefed further, 'Triage drills, firefighting techniques and emergency individual drills are also being conducted in the Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Training.' She was updated, 'Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Training is also teaching emergency warning and siren procedures. Citizens can apply for 'Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Training' through mobile app and web portal. They can also contact their nearest Rescue 1122 station for the purpose.' The Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, 'The aim of civil defense training is to enable people to deal with emergencies. Students and people of different schools of thought are also being given life-saving and emergency evacuation training across the province. LAHORE: Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has said the Punjab government is taking fundamental steps to improve the health sector and top priority of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is to improve the health sector. While addressing the second surgical conference at Akhtar Saeed Medical and Dental College Bahria Town as the chief guest, Salman said, 'Efforts are being made to ensure safe treatment and care of patients in hospitals. Chief Minister's Children's Heart Surgery Programme, Chief Minister's Dialysis Programme and Chief Minister's Special Initiative for Transplant Programme are the flagship programmes of the Punjab government.' He said the Asia's largest Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research is being built in Lahore. A state-of-the-art Nawaz Sharif Institutes of Cardiology are being built in Lahore and Sargodha. The shortage of doctors and nurses in hospitals is being met on priority basis, he assured. Dean Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute Professor Faisal Saud Dar, Principal Professor Nadeem Hafeez Butt, Professor Farooq Saeed Khan, Professor Fariha Farooq, Dr Sabir Ayaz Malik, Professor Muhammad Saleem and Dr Umair Farooq were present. Moreover, Khawaja Salman Rafique, while speaking at a ceremony held in connection with 'International Firefighters Day' said 'Our rescuers are rendering invaluable services to protect the lives and property of the people. We pay tribute to the invaluable sacrifices of the rescuers who sacrificed their lives while protecting the lives and property of the people. Punjab rescuers are making Pakistan proud all over the world.' He said, 'Air Ambulance Service was the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Dr Rizwan Naseer said that the Water Rescue Service rescued 18,612 drowning emergencies and more than 328,000 flood victims. Meanwhile, in a meeting, health minister conducted a detailed review of the Chief Minister's Children's Heart Surgery Programme was taken. Khawaja Salman Rafique, while expressing his views, said that the Chief Minister's Children's Heart Surgery Program is the flagship programme of the Punjab government. More than 3690 innocent children have been performed heart surgeries under the Chief Minister's Children's Heart Surgery Programme so far. Children's heart surgeries are being performed in 6 government and 11 private hospitals in Punjab. Under this unique health programme, free heart surgeries worth billions of rupees have been performed on children so far. Further improvements are being made in the three historic programmes of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister's Children's Heart Surgery Programme, Chief Minister's Dialysis Programme and Chief Minister's Special Initiative for Transplant Programme.
