Rob Liefeld Keeps Throwing Shade at Marvel Studios, Slams THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS as 'Dull and Boring' — GeekTyrant
Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld is still salty over his perceived snub from Marvel Studios, and now he's turned his frustrations toward The Fantastic Four: First Steps . If you thought his feud with Kevin Feige was cooling off, think again. After being left off the Deadpool & Wolverine afterparty guest list and feeling slighted by his lack of spotlight during the film's promotional campaign, Liefeld's grudge has gone nuclear. He's taken to social media to vent, and this time The Fantastic Four is in the line of fire. Posting a photo of a nearly empty IMAX theater, Liefeld didn't hold back: 'This was the 5pm Fantastic Four screening at my IMAX. I can tell you why there is very little repeat biz on this film. It's impossibly dull & boring.' He did throw some praise toward Vanessa Kirby, saying: 'Vanessa Kirby carries the entire film and is tasked with some ridiculous lifts. She's the VIP. Also, the Franklin baby is the cutest kid ever on screen. Adorable.' Then he encouraged fans to buy Fantastic Four #49 and #243, adding, 'This Galactus would be amazing.' In a now-deleted post, Liefeld went after Kevin Feige directly, urging: 'Hey, Kevin Feige, watch movies. Go back and study films that impacted us, the blockbusters of the past. Watch Independence Day for the stakes you were after in FF. Watch Close Encounters for the scale and wonder. FF had no tension.' While The Fantastic Four: First Steps currently holds an 86% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and a strong 92% Popcornmeter audience rating, Liefeld clearly isn't impressed. His commentary plays into the social media circle of outrage-fueled Marvel critics, many of whom have leaned into the 'M-She-U' narrative and complaints about superhero fatigue. This ongoing drama stems from Liefeld's belief that Marvel Studios has repeatedly tried to diminish his contributions. He's previously called out the studio for ignoring him on red carpets and choosing not to publish event photos featuring him and his family. According to him, it's all a calculated effort to erase him from the spotlight. It's worth noting that Liefeld's contribution to Deadpool has long been debated. While he designed the original look, it was Fabian Nicieza who gave Wade Wilson his personality, and later Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness evolved him into the wise-cracking antihero that Ryan Reynolds brought to life. Love him or loathe him, Rob Liefeld isn't backing down. Whether it's genuine criticism or a bid to stay in the headlines, his war with Marvel Studios isn't cooling off any time soon. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is now playing in theaters.

Deadpool creator takes swipe at Marvel over latest box office numbers
Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has taken a fresh swipe at Marvel after the updated box office gross for Captain America: Brave New World. The latest MCU blockbuster, starring Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford, received overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics but has still performed well at the box office. At the time of the writing, the film has earned more than $370m at the global box office, against a $180m budget. To break even against its budget and be considered a success, the film will have to gross $425m. Current projections estimate that the film will earn $450m at the overall box office. After the numbers were shared on X/Twitter, Liefeld, who is at odds with Marvel, wrote: 'After 24 days, $55 million from BREAK EVEN. The mighty have fallen.' Liefeld, who created Deadpool for Marvel comics in 1990, has recently severed ties with the company following the release of the 2024 hit, Deadpool and Wolverine. The artist and writer is the brains behind the foul-mouthed anti-hero, and has a working relationship with the comic book publishers lasting more than 30 years. But he felt sidelined at the New York premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine, the first Deadpool film to be released since Disney acquired Fox, and has opened up about his perceived experience. According to Liefeld, he felt ignored by Disney bosses, including Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, at the July 2024 event and was upset to discover he and his family had not been invited to the premiere afterparty. Speaking on his podcast Robservations, Liefeld claimed: 'It was meant to embarrass, diminish, defeat me. 'At some point, you go, 'I've received the message, and the message is clear.'' He also wanted a special credit different to the standard one given to comic book creators at the end of the film – noting that his request stemmed from Marvel's decision to give Roy Thomas a Wolverine co-creator status alongside Len Wein and John Romita, Sr. He wrote in the email: 'Marvel's treatment of creators has never been their strength. Without the worlds, the characters and the concepts that we create – and in this specific case, the world of Deadpool – there are no films to shoot. No blockbusters to distribute. … I am not the easy button at Staples. I am the human imagination behind it all.' Liefeld claimed that his response did not get received in the way he was after, tweeting: 'My reps were screamed at today 'We are NOT Fox!' Tell me about it. Also hung up on.' Brave New World has made cinema history for the comic book franchise for the worst possible reason. According to Forbes, Captain America: Brave New World has sunk to new lows, earning the lowest CinemaScore in MCU history, earning a B minus – which may not sound so bad, but pales in comparison to other Marvel films. CinemaScore measures a film's appeal by polling early reactions to major releases. It is the only Marvel film to have ever earned a B- rating, with The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 3, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels all scoring higher with a B+. Even the much-maligned Eternals (2021) scraped a B+ rating.

‘Deadpool' Creator Calls For Marvel's Kevin Feige To 'Get Off The Mound' After ‘Captain America: Brave New World's Box Office Crash: 'He's Spent'
Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld had something to say about Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige after seeing the box office results of Captain America: Brave New World. The post-Avengers: Endgame era at the box office has been challenging for Marvel, with only a few exceptions like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Deadpool & Wolverine. The two films that fared worse were The Marvels, with a 78% dropoff, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, with a 68% dropoff. Following the report of Brave New World's results, Liefeld took to X (the microblogging platform formerly known as Twitter) and posted, 'Get Feige off the mound. He's spent.' Liefeld quoted all the Marvel films that have dropped more than 60% at the box office in its second weekend, saying in another X post that the 'MCU is on an extended downside.' 'This is beyond a trend, it's become the norm,' Liefeld said. 'If this was sports, Feige would be removed. Marvel brand is like Dodgers, Lakers, Yankees, Celtics, coaches that win championships are removed a year later when the results are disappointing.' In another X post he added, '8 movies crash over the last 3 years. Don't we want better movies? You get the curiosity crowd then plunge.' Earlier this year, Liefeld opened up about feeling snubbed by Marvel at the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere in 2024. Liefeld said on the Robservations podcast that he was ignored by Marvel head Kevin Feige on the red carpet and found out his family was not invited to the after party. The comic book creator also said that he posed for pictures on the red carpet with Deadpool & Wolverine creatives but found out they were ultimately deleted and were only taken to appease him.
