Iowa Rep. Pat Grassley might enter race for governor

IOWA (KCAU) — Iowa State Representative Pat Grassley is speaking out about the 2026 race for the governor's seat. The Iowa House Speaker is eyeing a possible run for the position. So far, the only confirmed candidates in the race are former state Representative Brad Sherman and current State Auditor Rob Sand. He was recently asked about his consideration to get into the governor race. 'I'm just going to take some time now that session has wrapped up as I've been saying, wanted to get through session and then take the next couple of weeks to kind of make a decision on what that would be. But, obviously, as being consistent with what I said earlier, considering that, yeah,' said Iowa House Speaker State Rep Pat Grassley (R). Grassley said he does not have a specific timeline on announcing whether or not he will run for the governor's seat. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Rob Sand visits potential voters in Davenport

Voters in Davenport had an opportunity to meet with a 2026 Iowa governor candidate Wednesday Morning. State auditor Rob Sand (D) visited Lafayette Park as he makes his way around the state. Sand is the first high-profile Democrat in Iowa's governor's race. He promised to be a governor for everyone by focusing on public service rather than politics. Sand said his campaign raised $2 million from 9,000 donations in the first 24 hours of entering the race. The Democrat added he would have no problem working with Republicans if they maintain their majority in the legislature. 'I think one of the most important things we need to prioritize is restoring the power of the auditor's office so that Iowans actually know how their tax dollars are getting spent,' Sand said. 'I think knowing how your tax money is getting spent is a fundamental right and a fundamental freedom for Iowans. I also think it's important to get our economy back in shape. We're 49th in the country in economic growth, according to the Trump administration right now. That's not good enough.' Sand said he plans to announce a schedule for 100 town hall meetings as part of his campaign. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Iowa Auditor Rob Sand visits with farmers in Aurelia

AURELIA, Iowa (KCAU) — After current Iowa Auditor Rob Sand threw his hat into the ring for Governor, he made a quick stop in Aurelia to talk with farmers about issues they're facing. Over the course of an hour, the auditor and his team toured the homestead of retired farmer Dennis Allen and spoke with him and his family, alongside others in attendance, about the state of farming in Iowa as well as the impact of tariffs on producers. The last time a Democrat was elected to the Governor of Iowa was back in 2007, Chet Culver who served until 2011. 'I don't think that the Democratic and Republican Party solving enough problems to deserve their share of monopoly. I think that the voters of the state, the public, rather than political parties, should be in charge of figuring out who our candidates can be, and there's a lot of people in my party that get upset at me for saying that, I don't care,' said Iowa auditor Rob Sand. During his visit, he was also asked if he becomes governor, how he plans to help producers keep farming. 'I think that the state of Iowa is founded on the idea of agriculture, right, that is the heart of who we are, and we were just talking about the importance of making sure that smaller and mid-size farmers can get rolling, can get started. That is a huge part of maintaining agriculture as a piece of not just a business, but a way of life, and I think that's a piece that a lot of people don't necessarily understand who maybe aren't from a small town or don't have much of a connection to Iowa. It's one thing to say you farm, and it's another thing to actually be a farmer,' said Iowa Auditor Rob Sand. Sand is currently the only democrat to announce his run for the Iowa Governor position. Zoom in: An app he's been using recently is ScreenZen, which helps limit screen time and make sure he doesn't get bogged down or distracted by his phone. "It's a great app to increase productivity," he says. Here's how Sand starts his day: ⏰ Wake up: Between 5-6am. 🍳 Breakfast: He's a "big breakfast" guy and eats Casey's breakfast pizza, Waveland Cafe or a breakfast sandwich at home. "There's usually eggs and meat involved." 💡 How he juggles his days: "As best I can," Sand says.
