Mariners Veteran Issues Lengthy Apology After Violent Outburst During Rehab Game
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles committed an egregious baseball offense on Sunday night. Robles is rehabbing from a shoulder injury that has kept him sidelined for over four months, and he's been getting plunked by an unusually high amount of pitches during his brief time in the minors. When it nearly happened once again against the Athletics' Triple-A team, Robles snapped. After a Joey Estes fastball came near his head, Robles whirled around and chucked his bat at the pitcher. He was ejected instantly, and on his way off the field, he hurled a bucket full of sunflower seeds onto the diamond. (Photo by)It was an ugly scene, and Robles can expect discipline from the league office. On Monday, after the dust had settled, the veteran issued a contrite apology. Here was the full text of Robles' apology, posted to the outfielder's Instagram story on Monday morning: "I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize for my recent reaction on the field. I let my frustration get the best of me, and I understand how that may have affected not just the game, but the energy and respect we all work so hard to maintain. "Coming off a long rehab and being away from the game for most of the season has been physically and mentally challenging. Adding to that, the recent passing of my mother has been incredibly hard, and I've been doing my best to hold it together. That's not an excuse, but some context I feel you deserve to understand where I'm coming from. "Getting hit 5 times in 15 at-bats added to that pressure, and I reacted in a way I'm not proud of. This game means the world to me, and so do the people who play it. I respect every one of you – my teammates, the opposing players, and everyone in this league. "I'm committed to being better, not just as a player, but as a teammate and competitor. I appreciate your understanding, and I'm grateful to be back on the field doing what I love. "Thank you." The Mariners have to be discouraged by Robles' actions, especially if his suspension is a lengthy one. Their outfield could use another right-handed bat to platoon in right field with Dominic Canzone, and Robles, who was very good in the second half for them last year, may have taken himself off the table. Mariners' Victor Robles fractures shoulder after slamming into wall during highlight-reel catch
A fracture in Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles' shoulder will force him to miss at least the next 12 weeks of the baseball season. An MRI on Tuesday confirmed that Robles suffered a small fracture in the humeral head of his left shoulder, according to If Robles' injured shoulder does ultimately require surgery, the Seattle center fielder's entire season could fall into jeopardy. However, Mariners executive vice president/general manager Justin Hollander appeared optimistic about Robles' recovery and downplayed surgery concerns. Nevertheless, the Mariners will likely continue to closely monitor how the shoulder progresses. The Mariners moved Robles to the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. The injury setback comes just one day after Robles made a leaping, highlight reel-worthy catch in the outfield. San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey hit a fly ball deep down the right field line in the bottom of the ninth inning on Monday's game. Just as the ball carried foul, Robles jumped into the air and made the catch before slamming into the wall and the netting. Robles immediately appeared to be in pain as he dropped to his knees and threw the ball back towards the infield. Robles was later forced to leave the field on the back of a cart. The game was tied when the Mariners' outfielder recorded the second out of the inning. Avoiding surgery would likely put the 27-year-old on a healing timetable of six weeks. It could take another six weeks of rehab before Robles is healthy enough to return to action. Robles started last season with the Washington Nationals before signing with the Mariners last June. He has compiled a .273 batting average and stolen three bases in 10 games so far this season. Robles appeared in 77 games with Seattle in 2024. The Mariners will enter Tuesday's game against the Houston Astros with a 4-7 record. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Mariners' Victor Robles (shoulder) expected to miss 12 weeks
April 8 - The results of an MRI performed on Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles revealed a small fracture in his left shoulder, the team announced Tuesday. While it appears Robles will avoid surgery, the team expects Robles' fracture to heal in approximately six weeks. At that point, he will need a rehab schedule of an additional six more weeks in order to get up to speed. Robles was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday, one day after he made a jumping catch of a long ball hit by Patrick Bailey of the San Francisco Giants in the bottom of the ninth that had barely turned foul. His glove hand still outstretched, Robles' elbow appeared to make contact with a padded wall and he also got tangled in netting. Robles was carted off the field. Robles, 27, joined the Mariners after being waived by the Washington Nationals during the 2024 season. Robles was Seattle's leadoff batter in its first 10 games of this season, hitting .273 with three doubles, three RBIs, three runs and three stolen bases. Robles has batted .248 in his 617-game career with Washington (2017-24) and Seattle, recording 35 homers, 185 RBIs, 257 runs and 103 stolen bases. --Field Level Media
