Elton John's New No. 1 Album Is Different From His Past Chart-Toppers

Elton John and Brandi Carlile's new album Who Believes in Angels? debuts at No. 1 on two Billboard ... More charts, becoming his first proper album to rule. Benett/Getty Images for the Elton John AIDS Foundation) Elton John is back at No. 1 in the United States, as the legendary performer claims another chart-topping title this week thanks to Who Believes in Angels?, a collaborative effort with fellow Grammy winner Brandi Carlile. The brand new full-length arrives as a success across a number of rankings, launching atop several Billboard tallies – and this latest champion is different from his previous rulers. Who Believes in Angels? launches at No. 1 on both the Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts. In both cases, the set gives John his second leader on each ranking. The only other time the hitmaker has managed to conquer these rock-based tallies was with Diamonds, a compilation of some of the pianist's biggest and best-known singles. That's certainly a worthy achievement, but seeing a studio album comprised entirely of new material rise to the top — especially one released this late into a career that spans more than half a century — is something else entirely. John's Diamonds previously hit No. 1 on both the Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts, underlining the continued appeal of his classic catalog. But while a hits collection has a built-in advantage thanks to both name recognition and all-but-guaranteed streaming numbers, it's far more impressive to see an artist climb to the top with brand new music. Who Believes in Angels? is John's first proper album to lead these two rosters – a stat that might come as a surprise to those who have been following the star's career for years. Over the years, John has come close to the top of both the Top Rock Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums charts with several other releases, but he's often just missed the mark. He's now scored six top 10 placements on each list, and in a few instances, he's been edged out by just a spot or two. His collaboration with Leon Russell, The Union, stalled at No. 2. Nearly two decades ago, Rocket Man: Number Ones, another hits-packed compilation, peaked at No. 3. Beyond the rock-centric tallies, Who Believes in Angels? also enjoys a lofty start on several additional Billboard albums charts. It opens at No. 2 on the Top Album Sales list, narrowly missing the peak position. On the Vinyl Albums ranking, the full-length opens at No. 3. Perhaps most notably, the project breaks into the top 10 on the Billboard 200, settling in at No. 9. That gives both John and Carlile yet another top-tier placement on the all-genre ranking of the most-consumed albums and EPs in the U.S.—and for John, it adds one more impressive feat to an already legendary resume.

The Beatles Make ‘Abbey Road' A Bestseller Again

Abbey Road returns to Billboard's Vinyl Albums chart at No. 20, leading a trio of reentries as fans ... More snap up The Beatles' classic once again. From left, Paul McCartney, George Harrison (1943-2001), Ringo Starr and John Lennon (1940-1980) of English rock and pop group The Beatles pose together during a press call to promote their performance of the song 'All You Need Is Love' as part of the 'Our World' worldwide satellite broadcast, at Abbey Road Studios in London, 24th June 1967. The band would perform the song live on a global television link up the next day, 25th June. (Photo by Ivan Keeman/Redferns) The Beatles return to the Billboard charts in the U.S. this week — an event that's not entirely unusual, given the band's continued popularity across the generations. But while it's common to spot the group somewhere on the rankings, every now and then, one of its classic albums stages a comeback that stands out from the usual slow-burning chart presence, typically enjoyed by a compilation filled with hits. That's what's happened this frame, as Abbey Road reemerges as a success once again across multiple rankings. This week, Abbey Road finds space on three different Billboard charts. The beloved release had disappeared from each of these lists not long ago, but now it's back – and even a top 20 win on one tally. The highest placement this week for the title comes on the Vinyl Albums chart, where Abbey Road returns at No. 20, a solid reentry for a project that's been around for decades. Elsewhere, the full-length also finds a spot on the Top Album Sales list at No. 42 and manages a more modest showing on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums list, landing at No. 49 — just one position away from the bottom of that roster. The Beatles' return to the charts is due in large part to a noticeable uptick in purchases of Abbey Road. According to Luminate, the title sold a little more than 2,500 copies in the latest tracking period. That's a 16% increase from the week prior. That may not sound massive, but for a collection that first hit shelves more than half a century ago, it's a meaningful boost. Of all the albums in the Beatles' catalog, Abbey Road is one of the most commercially successful, and certainly among the most beloved. The collection has already topped each of the three charts it appears on this week, and it's remained a steady performer since long before Billboard began tracking vinyl sales as a standalone metric. The title is inching toward a major milestone on the Vinyl Albums chart. Abbey Road has now spent 489 weeks on that tally. If it can remain present for just a few more frames this year – which seems highly likely – it will become one of only a handful of releases in history to hit 500 weeks on the vinyl-exclusive ranking. Abbey Road was originally released in 1969 and stands as one of the final albums the Beatles shared together. The project includes some of the band's most familiar hits, like 'Come Together' and 'Here Comes the Sun,' and its now-iconic cover — featuring the four members crossing the street outside London's Abbey Road Studios — has become one of the most recognizable images in music history.

Taylor Swift's Surprise Album Is Still A Huge Winner, Half A Decade Later

Folklore leads Taylor Swift's discography this week as it appears on four Billboard charts, twice as ... More many as any of her other albums. KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI - NOVEMBER 10: Taylor Swift looks on prior to a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on November 10, 2024 in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by) Taylor Swift has not been absent from the Billboard charts for years – perhaps even well over a decade at this point. It's become routine for her to take up a sizable chunk of the Billboard 200, as fans continue to stream and purchase her discography at a staggering rate. This week, more than a half-dozen of her projects are present. Amid all this activity, one title stands out — not because it lands higher than the rest, but because it's currently showing up on more tallies than any of her other efforts. Of all the albums Swift has on the Billboard charts right now, Folklore is the clear winner. The surprise 2020 release is the only one of her titles that manages to find space on four different rankings at once. That's not an easy feat, especially for a collection that's nearing its fifth anniversary. Only three other Swift releases appear on half as many lists this frame, while most settle on just one. This week, Folklore once again appears inside the top 10 on the Top Alternative Albums chart, lifting to No. 6. It nearly climbs back into the highest tier on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums list as well, settling just outside the top 10 at No. 11. On the Billboard 200, the collection vaults 10 spaces, rising from No. 66 to No. 56. The project also makes a comeback on the Top Album Sales chart, landing at No. 39. That re-entry means it's once again one of the 40 bestselling full-lengths in the U.S. While Folklore reigns as Swift's top-performing title this week, a few of her other releases still manage to make their presence felt on more than one tally. Her latest full-length, The Tortured Poets Department, remains a fan favorite, and it holds at No. 18 on the Billboard 200 and places just one spot higher, at No. 17, on the Top Streaming Albums chart. Red (Taylor's Version) currently sits at No. 155 on the Billboard 200 and at No. 29 on the Top Country Albums chart. Meanwhile, Evermore, the sibling project to Folklore, sneaks back onto the Billboard 200 at No. 199 and lands at No. 47 on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums list, slipping slightly from its position last frame. According to Luminate, Folklore moved another 15,200 equivalent units in the past tracking period. That's a 4% jump from the previous week. Of that sum, 2,850 were pure sales — a figure large enough to send the album back onto the Top Album Sales chart, where digital and physical purchases alone determine placement. Beyond her four multi-charting releases, Swift has six more albums that appear on one Billboard ranking apiece. Lover, Midnights, 1989 (Taylor's Version), and Reputation all find space on the Billboard 200, while Speak Now (Taylor's Version) and Fearless (Taylor's Version) land on the Top Country Albums chart.

Creed Rises Higher Than Ever With Both Albums And Singles — In The Year 2025

Creed hasn't released a new album in more than a decade, but the rockers still maintain an impressive positioning on the Billboard charts. The outfit once dominated the rankings, and somewhat surprisingly, the band isn't far from the top of several lists this frame. This week, Creed sees both albums and songs reach new heights on multiple rankings. There hasn't been any major promotional push, nor is there any real reason for the group's work to be soaring – the music is just still, somehow, reaching a large audience to this day. The aptly-titled Greatest Hits has been one of Creed's most consistent performers for years now. The compilation appears on five Billboard rankings this frame, and more impressively, it hits a new high on three of them at the same time. The project lifts one space to No. 9 on the Top Alternative Albums chart, edging further into the uppermost tier. The set also climbs on the Top Rock Albums list, stepping up three rungs to No. 13. Over on the more wide-reaching Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart, Greatest Hits ascends to No. 16. The compilation has never risen to high on all three tallies. Not only is Creed's Greatest Hits climbing this frame, it's also celebrating a special milestone on one of the rankings it appears on. The collection has now spent 52 weeks — exactly one year — on the Top Alternative Albums chart. It's also closing in on a similar milestone on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums list. This week marks its fiftieth frame on that ranking, and if it continues to perform well – which seems all but certain – it will likely celebrate a full year on the tally in just two more turns. Creed's chart wins this week aren't limited to its full-lengths. One of the band's most beloved singles, 'One Last Breath,' is also enjoying continued success. The track appears on six Billboard charts this week, and it hits new highs on two of them. The rock anthem improves from No. 10 to No. 9 on the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart. It also climbs from No. 13 to No. 11 on the Rock Digital Song Sales tally, coming close to breaking into the top 10 there for the first time. Both of those placements mark loftiest positions the song has ever seen on those rankings. 'One Last Breath' manages to score a spot inside the top 10 on two rosters in America as well. It slips slightly on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs list, moving down just one rung to No. 2. On the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, the tune rises to No. 4, just one position shy of its all-time best showing at No. 3. Elsewhere, the song performs well enough to continue charting on both the Alternative Streaming Songs and Rock Streaming Songs rankings. It lands at No. 19 on the former and settles at No. 22 on the latter.
