Coldplay Is In Its Viral Era

Coldplay's 'Sparks' and 'Yellow' reenter Billboard's Rock Streaming Songs chart, with both cuts ... More gaining ground as all things connected to the band enjoy viral moments. LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JUNE 06: Chris Martin of Coldplay performs on a stop of the band's Music of the Spheres world tour at Allegiant Stadium on June 06, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by) Getty Images The past several weeks have been huge for Coldplay on the charts in a number of nations, including the United States and the United Kingdom. The group has a lot going on at the moment, as its seemingly never-ending Music of the Spheres World Tour continues, and it pushed past $1 billion in grosses last year. The pop-rock outfit has also enjoyed quite a bit of virality lately, as a decades-old tune picked up new fans on TikTok. That surge translated into success on several important rankings, and an embarrassing moment on the kiss cam at a recent show has kept the band's name in headlines. All of the attention being paid to Coldplay has led to an uptick in plays on streaming platforms. This week in America, that surge can be clearly seen on one of Billboard's streaming tallies. Coldplay appears twice on the Rock Streaming Songs chart, Billboard's ranking that details the most successful individual tracks on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, iHeartRadio, Amazon Music, and others in the U.S. Both tunes reappear after recently falling off the list. 'Sparks' is the higher-rising of the two, as it reenters at No. 19, just one space below its all-time high point. Another classic from the band, 'Yellow,' narrowly manages to break back in at No. 25. While 'Sparks' and 'Yellow' are two of Coldplay's oldest cuts, they are still relatively new to the Rock Streaming Songs chart — at least when looking at the number of weeks they've spent on the list. 'Sparks' debuted only recently, and has now lived on the tally for about a month. 'Yellow,' meanwhile, is up to 14 stays on the roster. 'Sparks' Hits a New Peak on the Alternative Streaming Chart As 'Sparks' returns to the Rock Streaming Songs chart, the track climbs again on a similar ranking, the Alternative Streaming Songs list. The Coldplay cut jumps from No. 17 to No. 12, reaching a never-before-seen peak. The same tune returns to its all-time high of No. 10 on the Hot Rock Songs ranking, thanks largely to its continued success on streaming platforms. 'Yellow' also climbs on the Alternative Streaming Songs chart, pushing from No. 24 to No. 18.

One Of Tom Petty's Most Famous Songs Debuts In America

Tom Petty's 'American Girl' debuts at No. 22 on Billboard's Rock Streaming Songs chart, marking his ... More first new hit on the tally since his 2017 passing. NEWPORT, UNITED KINGDOM - JUNE 22: Tom Petty of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers performs on the main stage on day 2 of The Isle of Wight Festival at Seaclose Park on June 22, 2012 in Newport, Isle of Wight. (Photo by) Before he passed away in October 2017, Tom Petty had already proven himself to be a rock star in America, one who scored many successful singles throughout his career. His popularity, however, didn't immediately translate when the streaming era began, as many of his most diehard listeners already owned his albums. It took time for some of his collections to find their footing on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and other similar sites. At the time of his death, Petty had only landed one hit on Billboard's Rock Streaming Songs chart, but that number exploded as people rushed to listen to his catalog once the sad news was shared. Since then, Petty hasn't collected a new hit on that tally, until this week. 'American Girl' Debuts on the Rock Streaming Songs Chart 'American Girl' debuts at No. 22 on Billboard's ranking of the most-streamed rock-only cuts in the United States. Petty, alongside his band the Heartbreakers, collects an eighth hit on the Rock Streaming Songs chart as the tune arrives. The celebrated musician hasn't launched a tune on the tally since October 2017, just after his passing. As it opens at No. 22, 'American Girl' takes over from 'Runnin' Down a Dream' as Petty's lowest-peaking track on this list. The tune launches on the rock streaming tally after fans across the country turned to it in celebration of the Fourth of July holiday. Tom Petty and Zach Bryan Score the Week's Only Debuts Petty scores one of only two debuts on the Rock Streaming Songs ranking this frame. Zach Bryan launches 'River Washed Hair' at No. 4. The lack of competition helps several classics by some of the biggest names in rock history return to the same list. Bruce Springsteen's 'Born in the U.S.A.,' Fleetwood Mac's 'The Chain,' Creedence Clearwater Revival's 'Fortunate Son,' and 'Take It Easy' by the Eagles all reenter the Rock Streaming Songs chart at Nos. 15, 17, 21, and 25, respectively. Among that bunch, Springsteen's classic — which is also on the rise thanks to the Fourth of July — reaches a never-before-seen high point as it reappears.

A few singles produced by the English/American group continue to sell and stream well enough to regularly appear on Billboard charts in the United States, decades after their release. This week, a pair of cuts from the Grammy-winning outfit stand out as top 10 wins. One of them nearly returns to No. 1, but Fleetwood Mac is blocked from the peak position by one of the hottest newcomers in the rock and alternative space. 'Dreams' Inches Up the Rock Streaming Songs Chart Fleetwood Mac's 'Dreams' climbs ever so slightly on the current edition of the Rock Streaming Songs chart. The tune, which immediately became a fan favorite around a half-century ago when it was first released and which found a new audience after going viral several years back, moves from No. 3 to No. 2 on the tally. Only 'Back to Friends' by newcomer Sombr blocks the band from earning another turn at No. 1. 'Back to Friends' has now spent 15 weeks on the Rock Streaming Songs chart. Four of those frames have been at No. 1. 'Dreams' Has Already Topped the Chart While 'Dreams' might not conquer the Rock Streaming Songs tally again this frame, the Fleetwood Mac classic has already spent time in the penthouse. 'Dreams' first hit No. 1 in October 2020. In the 284 weeks it has spent somewhere on the tally, eight of them have been in first place. Fleetwood Mac Rises on the Billboard Charts 'Dreams' is gaining ground on every Billboard chart on which it appears. Amazingly, the Fleetwood Mac cut ranks among the 50 most-played tunes on streaming platforms, as it inches one space north to No. 31 on the all-genre Streaming Songs taly. The same single also grows on the Billboard Global 200 and reappears on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. 'The Chain' Reaches a New Peak Fleetwood Mac claims two top 10 hits in America this week, as 'Dreams' is joined by 'The Chain.' That tune blasts back onto the Rock Digital Song Sales chart at No. 3, a new all-time peak for the decades-old cut. Surprisingly, 'The Chain' was never chosen as a single, but that hasn't stopped it from remaining a fan favorite for many years.

Fleetwood Mac's Hit Song Is Back — But It Was Somehow Never A Single

Fleetwood Mac's 'The Chain' reenters Billboard's Rock Streaming Songs chart and the Billboard Global ... More 200 as 'Dreams' climbs to No. 3 on the rock tally. AFP PHOTO (Photo credit should read JON LEVY/AFP via Getty Images) Fleetwood Mac typically performs well on the Billboard charts every frame thanks in large part to its album Rumours. To a lesser extent, the group's Greatest Hits compilation also keeps the rockers somewhere on the weekly lists. From time to time, one or two tunes featured in the Grammy-winning act's discography manage to find space as well — and at the moment, a pair of cuts are charting once again as one begins a comeback. 'The Chain' — long regarded as one of Fleetwood Mac's most popular compositions — breaks back onto the Rock Streaming Songs tally at No. 23 this week. It also narrowly manages to find space on the Billboard Global 200, the worldwide ranking of the most-consumed tracks, where it settles at No. 195. 'The Chain' has only appeared on the Billboard Global 200 for four nonconsecutive weeks throughout the half-decade the tally has been compiled. Its lifespan on the Rock Streaming Songs list is far more impressive. The Fleetwood Mac tune has now racked up 85 appearances somewhere on the ranking of the most-played rock tracks on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and iHeartRadio, where it stands as one of the group's top 10 wins on that roster. Fleetwood Mac scores a pair of hit tracks in the U.S. this week, as 'The Chain' joins 'Dreams' on both the Rock Streaming Songs list and the Billboard Global 200. 'Dreams' is rising across all the tallies it appears on, inching closer to the summit on the rock ranking, where it pushes to No. 3. The same tune can also be found on both the Streaming Songs tally and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. at the same time. The latter roster removes all sales and streaming activity from the United States to show what the rest of the world is listening to. Both 'Dreams' and 'The Chain' were originally featured on Fleetwood Mac's masterpiece Rumours. While 'Dreams' was selected as a proper single, 'The Chain' never earned that status – but that hasn't stopped it from becoming a certified classic, and one of the band's most beloved songs.
