Another hole opens up along I-80 in New Jersey. Here's how it is impacting traffic in Rockaway.

Officials say sewer basin collapsed on I-80, just few miles from sinkhole problems in Wharton Officials say sewer basin collapsed on I-80, just few miles from sinkhole problems in Wharton Officials say sewer basin collapsed on I-80, just few miles from sinkhole problems in Wharton There are more problems for drivers along Interstate 80 in New Jersey after another hole opened up on the highway in Morris County this week. Officials say this time it is not a sinkhole but a sewer basin that collapsed Monday under the eastbound side, near Exit 37 in Rockaway. It closed at least two lanes of eastbound traffic. It happened just about four miles from the areas where multiple sinkholes have closed the same highway near Exit 34 in Wharton. Officials say the Rockaway hole should be fixed by Tuesday night, but it is causing even more anxiety for those who live and work in the area. Mariana Zamora said it took two hours to take her son to school on Tuesday. "Oh, it's extremely stressful, especially because our son is special needs. So, to be in a car for two hours, it really takes a toll on everybody," Zamora said. A few miles west in Wharton, sinkholes closed the interstate in February. Large underground mines have caused repairs to drag out for months. "That's getting close, actually. We're going to be, I think, by the end of this month, we're going to have two lanes each way open both east and west," New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said. I-80 road problems have hurt small businesses for months Sabrina Nezaj has been a server at the Hibernia Diner in Rockaway for nearly 20 years. She says lately, it has been tough because business at the diner is way down and she works on tips. "Very depressed, very stressed," Nezaj said. "Nobody's doing okay. When you make 50% of your salary, are you doing okay?" She said she wonders how long she can hang on. "It's horrible. It's horrible," Nezaj said. Manager Thomas DeCicco said a flood of diverted interstate traffic jams up local roads and scares away potential customers. "There's nobody in the area that hasn't been impacted. Nobody. My competitors, banks, everybody," DeCicco said.

The Best Beaches Near NYC to Explore This Summer

To say New York City's beaches are unrivaled would be stretching the truth a bit. Crowded shorefronts and lack of remoteness might dissuade some from planning a day by the water. But that would be a mistake! Despite a few downsides that inherently come with outdoor spaces near big cities, the best beaches near NYC are a quintessential part of experiencing the region during the summer months. For starters, the people watching is in a league of its own. Head for destinations like Rockaway or Orchard Beach to witness New York City culture on full, charismatic display. If somewhere you can finish your book and lower your blood pressure is more the vibe, Long Island's tranquil swaths of sand should do just fine. And if an archetypal NYC experience is what you're chasing, Coney Island and adjacent Brighton Beach are waiting with open arms and hot dogs aplenty. There are no doubt many pristine beaches within a few hours' drive of the city (Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and those dotted along The Hamptons), but we presume if you're searching for beaches near NYC, sunny coastlines that can be reached as swiftly as possible are the ticket (extra points for those accessible by public transit). Escape the muggy heat and put your straw hat to work at the 11 best beaches near NYC below. Fort Tilden, Queens

San Francisco 49ers Invite Former Wisconsin Badger to Rookie Minicamp

Undrafted free agent signings and tryout opportunities are rolling in following the 2025 NFL Draft. A pair of former Wisconsin football players were selected at the draft hosted by the Green Bay Packers. The draft itself was among the most disappointing in recent history for the Wisconsin Badgers. Wisconsin only saw two of its former players selected. Neither of the former Badgers were picked before the final round. Advertisement However, a handful of players who finished their time in college football are hoping to take the path less traveled onto an NFL roster. Like another Badger that went undrafted a year ago, perhaps one may end up with the San Francisco 49ers. Wisconsin Football Defensive Lineman Earns Tryout with San Francisco 49ers Elijah Hills accepted a rookie minicamp invite from the 49ers, according to a social media post by the Badgers. The tryout opportunity comes after the defensive lineman participated in the Tropical Bowl - a postseason all-star game for college football seniors and NFL Draft hopefuls. "God is good!" said Hills, following the invitation. Advertisement The Rockaway, New Jersey native spent his final season of NCAA eligibility in Madison after spending three years with the FCS Albany Great Danes. In his lone season with Wisconsin football, Hills recorded 26 total tackles, led the Badgers with 5.5 tackles for loss, and tied with linebacker Christian Alliegro's team-high 3.0 sacks. Hills appeared in all 37 games the Great Danes played during his time with Albany. In his final season at the FCS level, he helped Albany reach the national semifinals by recording nine tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries, and three blocked kicks - all career-highs. The former Delbarton School product hopes to turn his lone season with the Badgers into a roster spot in San Francisco, like another transfer before him. 49ers general manager John Lynch signed quarterback Tanner Mordecai as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft. Mordecai has spent the past year on the practice squad with San Francisco and has appeared in two preseason games, completing six of ten passes for 103 yards. Braddock Avenue will be opening its doors at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2. Rockaway owner Josh Sickels closed his White Oak location back in the fall and has been preparing for the last several months to relocate and reopen at the new location that's closer to Pittsburgh. Sickels told the Post-Gazette that he's used the last few months while Rockaway was in the process of moving to take a pizza-focused road trip, experiment with some new ideas, and reshape his approach to how he makes pizza. Rockaway Pizzeria is set to open the doors at its new Regent Square location. Owner Josh Sickels closed the spot's White Oak location in the fall and spent the last several months on a pizza-focused road trip while preparing to relocate to the new spot on S. Braddock Avenue. KDKA During that pizza-focused road trip, Sickels traveled to New York City, New Jersey, and Connecticut to garner some inspiration for new ideas he can roll out at the new Regent Square location. Rockaway was one of several pizza places throughout the Pittsburgh area that were visited by Dave Portnoy, who was doing video reviews for his One Bite series on YouTube. Along with A Slice of New York and Pizza Lupo, Rockaway received a very high score of 8.2 during Portnoy's visit. In addition to their renowned pizza, Rockaway will be offering a limited selection of hoagies at the new location. When the new Regent Square location opens next Friday, it's going to be first come, first served and eventually phone ordering will be added into the mix.
