Will Carlos Rodon play tonight against Cleveland Guardians? Latest update on New York Yankees star's injury report (June 4, 2025)
Image Source: Getty The New York Yankees will face the Cleveland Guardians at 7:05 PM ET and everyone wants to see if Carlos Rodón will be in the lineup. Rodón has done very well this season and the Yankees need him to succeed. Here is the current update about his injury. Carlos Rodón set to pitch against Guardians The New York Yankees have made a statement regarding Carlos Rodón and his pitching assignment: he will start against the Cleveland Guardians tonight at Yankee Stadium. This southpaw has carried his team this year with a fine 7-3 record while holding down a 2.60 ERA. Rodón has been phenomenal over the last eight starts, shutting down opposing teams and surrendering only a run in 3 games, putting together an even more glistening ERA of 1.27 during that time. One of Rodón's best attributes is strikeouts, and he's high in whiff percentage, which essentially makes him impenetrable. He's faced Cleveland quite a number of times, winning 9, dropping 5, with a 2.66 ERA in those 22 games. Reports suggested that he is fit and ready to pitch. Fans can look forward to Rodón delivering a solid game, aiming to help the Yankees win at home. This news is exciting for Yankees fans, who see Rodón as a key player in their strong 36-22 season. His matchup against Cleveland's pitcher Tanner Bibee should be a fun battle. Rodón's recent performance, like his seven scoreless innings against the Angels, shows he's in great form. The Yankees count on him to keep Cleveland's hitters under control. Also Read: Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani eyes third consecutive MVP award with red-hot performance in MLB Yankees' pitching stays strong despite injuries The Yankees' pitching team has had some problems this year, with injuries to big names like Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil. Cole is out all season after elbow surgery, and Gil is sidelined until summer with a back injury. Even with those problems Rodón has been a steady pitcher working well with Max Fried. Last year, he pitched 32 games with a 3.96 ERA, showing he's back to form after a tough 2023. This year, he's striking out 11 per 9 like he did in his All-Star years of 2021 and 2022. The Yankees' hitters are 2nd in power so the pitchers benefit. Tonight's game against Cleveland, who are 32-26, is big. Rodón's start is key, and the Yankees' hitters are ready to back him up. Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s return from injury makes the Yankees' lineup even stronger, helping Rodón. The team's 18-9 record at home gives them a boost. Rodón has done well against Cleveland's star José Ramírez, keeping him to a .220 batting average. As the Yankees aim for the playoffs, Rodón's health and pitching are super important.

How Carlos Rodon overcame his rough first Yankees season: ‘I don't give up'
Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodón throws against the Los Angeles Angels during the first inning on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Carlos Rodón was always known as an above-average MLB starter. After his impressive 2021 and 2022 seasons with the Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants, respectively, the Yankees decided to sign him to a six-year, $162 million contract in free agency. Advertisement However, this signing did not begin well for Rodón. Some saw the Southpaw's first two seasons in pinstripes as lackluster and not worth the large contract he was given. Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodón throws against the Los Angeles Angels during the first inning on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. AP From 2022 to 2023, Rodon's ERA and WHIP jumped massively, and his strikeout numbers dropped a lot as well. Injuries at the beginning and end of the season also did not help the starting pitcher. Rodón ended the season with a record of 3-8. Rodón spoke on The Show Podcast with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman about how mentally draining that season was for him. 'It was rough. Long drives home, a lot of time in my head, thinking about what's wrong, why can't I make this better.' Rodón said. 'I wish I was better at the time. But I wasn't. At that point, Rodón realized he needed to evolve in some way. One change he made was to his pitch arsenal. Advertisement For most of his career, Rodón was known for just his fastball and slider. However, he has been able to add three new pitches: A curveball, a sinker, and a changeup. To most, that would seem difficult for a pitcher, let alone one who has been in the league for several years. But that is where Rodón's mental fortitude shone. 'I don't give up. I never really have,' Rodón said, 'it's just not in my nature.' That attitude helped him become a better player, and it has shown. Now with his new pitching repertoire, Rodón has had a stellar start to the season. He has the fewest Hits per nine innings in the American League. His record this season sits at 7-3 with a 2.60 ERA and a WHIP of .94 Robert Sabo for NY Post The lefty has helped the Yankees get off to a strong start, sitting atop the AL East standings. But Rodón and the Yankees still have one goal in mind. Making it back to the World Series. Rodón believes that this team has what it takes to make it back. 'I think we have a better team this year. Rodón said, 'Obviously, we still have to get there. So there's still games to be won.'

Jazz is back! Chisholm Jr. hits a solo shot in injury return to help Yankees win
Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a tiebreaking home run in his return from a month on the injured list, Carlos Rodon won his seventh straight decision and the New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Guardians 3-2 on Tuesday night for their 11th win in 14 games. Back from a strained right oblique that caused him to miss 28 games, Chisholm pulled a fastball into the first row of the right-center seats against Tanner Bibee (4-6) for a 2-1 lead in the seventh inning. Six pitches later, Anthony Volpe drove a sweeper into the left-field stands, giving the Yankees back-to-back homers for the fifth time. Rodón (8-3) allowed one run and five hits in seven innings with eight strikeouts and one walk. He extended his scoreless streak to 20 innings and retired 17 straight batters entering the seventh, when Jose Ramirez singled, stole second and came around when David Fry bounced a single past DJ LeMahieu at second base. Rodón stranded runners at the corners. Devin Williams, back as closer after Luke Weaver strained a hamstring, allowed Carlos Santana's one-out double and pinch-hitter Daniel Schneemann's two-out RBI single in the ninth, then retired Bo Naylor on a flyout for his sixth save in seven chances. LeMahieu's fifth-inning single drove in Chisholm, who had blooped a single for the Yankees' first hit. Chisholm moved to third base from second, where LeMahieu is starting, and made a fine throw from foul territory to retire Angel Martinez in the third. Bibee threw a season-high 107 pitches, allowing three runs and four hits in 6 1/3 innings. Fry, whose 10th-inning homer beat the Yankees in Game 3 of last year's American League Championship Series, went 1 for 3 as the designated hitter in his first start following reconstructive right elbow surgery in November. He struck out Sunday as a pinch hitter in his season debut. Check out the best moments between the Cleveland Guardians and the New York Yankees. Reporting by The Associated Press. Jazz Chisholm, Anthony Volpe homers back up Carlos Rodon gem as Yankees top Guardians
Access the Yankees beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Greg Joyce about the inside buzz on the Yankees. Try it free The new-look left side of the infield teamed up with the lefty who has definitely had a new look about him this year. The Yankees rode back-to-back home runs from their new third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. and shortstop Anthony Volpe, which backed seven brilliant, one-run innings from Carlos Rodón in a series-opening 3-2 victory over the Guardians in front of 40,683 on a gorgeous Tuesday night in The Bronx. Advertisement The Yankees (37-22) have won seven of their past nine games and moved to 23-15 against teams that currently have a record of at least .500, relying upon two seventh-inning swings and shutdown pitching to dent the club they met in the ALCS last year. 4 Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. reacts after he scores on his solo home run during the seventh inning on June 2. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post Rodón and righty Tanner Bibee were locked in a pitchers' duel in which both bent in the seventh. The Guardians scored once in the top of the inning to tie the game on a series of plays that were not entirely Rodón's fault. José Ramírez snapped a streak of 17 straight Guardians set down by chopping a well-placed single through the middle then stole second. Advertisement CHECK OUT THE LATEST MLB STANDINGS AND YANKEES STATS David Fry sent a hard-hit ground ball to the right side, and DJ LeMahieu — kept at second base while the Yankees moved Chisholm to third — dove for the ball, reached it in time but could not knock it down, deflecting it into right field for what became a game-tying single. But Rodón escaped further damage in the inning, which mattered in the bottom half. Advertisement The first pitch Chisholm saw in his third at-bat off the injured list was blasted to right field for a go-ahead home run. After missing five weeks and after deferring to LeMahieu (and Yankees brass) in shifting to third base, Chisholm showed no signs of rust and watched his laser go, nailed a jump shot around first base and celebrated in the dugout. 4 Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodón reacts on the mound after the Cleveland Guardians' Carlos Santana lines out, ending the fourth inning. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post The celebration had barely ceased when the next batter, Volpe, barreled a full-count sweeper from Bibee and sent it screaming to left field to add some insurance that a Luke Weaver-less bullpen ended up needing. Advertisement With the closer officially placed on the injured list earlier in the day, Mark Leiter Jr. pitched a scoreless eighth before Devin Williams survived a stressful ninth. In his return to the closing role, Williams allowed a run — on a double from Carlos Santana and a soft single from Daniel Schneemann that found a hole in the right side — but Williams induced a fly out from Bo Naylor to strand the potential tying run on second. 4 Yankees second baseman DJ LeMahieu hits an RBI single, driving home Jazz Chisholm Jr., during the fifth inning. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post 4 Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe watches his solo home run during the seventh inning. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post The Yankees escaped on a night they finished with just five hits, did not put a ball in play until the second inning, did not reach base until an Aaron Judge walk in the fourth and did not record a hit until they got a break in the fifth. In that inning, Chisholm should have been punched out on a sweeper that landed in the zone and was called a ball. Given another chance, he looped a bloop single into left to eliminate Bibee's shot at history. After a walk from J.C. Escarra, LeMahieu lined a two-out single into right to give the Yankees their first run and the only one that was scored by either side until the seventh. Apart from that unfortunate seventh, Rodón was efficient in breezing past Cleveland over seven five-hit, one-walk, eight-strikeout innings. Advertisement He allowed two hits in the first — and struck out a pair to escape two-on trouble — three hits in the seventh and zero in between those innings. The lefty, who has looked like a completely different pitcher this year, ran his scoreless-inning streak to 20 before LeMahieu couldn't keep the ball in the infield.
