Rookie Jacob Misiorowski is an NL All-Star after just 5 starts for the Brewers
Misiorowski was named Friday night to replace Chicago Cubs lefty Matthew Boyd, who will be unavailable for Tuesday's All-Star Game in Atlanta because he is scheduled to start Saturday at the New York Yankees.
The 23-year-old Misiorowski has made just five starts for the Brewers, going 4-1 with a 2.81 ERA while averaging 99.3 mph on his fastball, with 89 pitches that have reached 100 mph.
If he pitches at Truist Park, Misiorowski will make it consecutive years for a player to set the mark for fewest big league games before an All-Star showing.
Skenes, the Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander getting ready for his second All-Star appearance, had made 11 starts in the majors when he was chosen as the NL starter for last year's All-Star Game at Texas. He pitched a scoreless inning.
'I'm speechless,' said a teary-eyed Misiorowski, who said he was given the news a few minutes before the Brewers' 8-3 victory over Washington. 'It's awesome. It's very unexpected and it's an honor.'
Misiorowski is the 30th first-time All-Star and 16th replacement this year. There are now 80 total All-Stars.
'He's impressive. He's got some of the best stuff in the game right now, even though he's a young pitcher,' said Yankees slugger Aaron Judge, who is a starting AL outfielder for his seventh All-Star nod. 'He's going to be a special pitcher in this game for a long time so I think he deserved it and it's going be pretty cool for him and his family.'
Carlos Rodón, Carlos Estévez and Casey Mize were named replacement pitchers on the AL roster.
The New York Yankees' Rodón, an All-Star for the third time in five seasons, will replace teammate Max Fried. for Tuesday's game in Atlanta. Fried will be unavailable because he is scheduled to start Saturday against the Chicago Cubs.
In his final start before the All-Star game, Rodón allowed four hits and struck out eight in eight innings in an 11-0 victory over the Cubs.
'This one's a little special for me,' said Rodón, an All-Star in 2021 and '22 who was 3-8 in his first season with the Yankees two years ago before rebounding. 'I wasn't good when I first got here, and I just wanted to prove that I wasn't to going to give up and just put my best foot forward and try to win as many games as I can.'
The Kansas City Royals' Estévez replaces Texas' Jacob deGrom, who is scheduled to start at Houston on Saturday night. Estévez was a 2023 All-Star when he was with the Los Angeles Angels.
Mize takes the spot held by Boston's Garrett Crochet, who is scheduled to start Saturday against Tampa Bay. Mize gives the Tigers six All-Stars, most of any team and tied for the franchise record.
Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia will replace Tampa Bay's Brandon Lowe, who went on the injured list with left oblique tightness. The additions of Estévez and Garcia give the Royals four All-Stars, matching their 2024 total.
The Seattle Mariners announced center fielder Julio Rodríguez will not participate, and he was replaced by teammate Randy Arozarena. Rodríguez had been voted onto the AL roster via the players' ballot. The Mariners, who have five All-Stars, said Rodriguez will use the break to 'recuperate, rest and prepare for the second half.'
Arozarena is an All-Star for the second time. He started in left field for the AL two years ago, when he was with Tampa Bay. Arozarena was the runner-up to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the 2023 Home Run Derby.
Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen, a first-time All-Star, is replacing Los Angeles Angels left-hander Yusei Kikuchi, who is scheduled to start Saturday night at Arizona. Rasmussen is 7-5 with a 2.82 ERA in 18 starts.
San Diego added a third NL All-Star reliever in lefty Adrián Morejón, who replaces Philadelphia starter Zack Wheeler. The Phillies' right-hander is scheduled to start at San Diego on Saturday night. Morejón entered the weekend with a 1.71 ERA in 45 appearances.

In truth, it might have been better for everyone if Fernandes had packed his bags earlier this summer following Al-Hilal's £100m bid. But while the likes of Manchester City or Liverpool would not hesitate to do a deal that makes sense on a commercial and sporting level, United seem far less able to be bold. Behind the scenes, too, as Amorim's new approach appears to be bearing fruit, the skipper has been integral. Fernandes and Harry Maguire are viewed as leaders and key influencers, with the Portugal international a social butterfly who can bond and interact with all the players and other club staff. But even though United were far too good for Bournemouth in Wednesday's 4-1 victory in Chicago, Fernandes' return to a deeper role signalled issues that may become hard to control. In signing Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo and targeting RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, Amorim has made clear that he envisages a new £200m attacking trident. That means Fernandes will have to play as one of the two deeper midfielders in Amorim's preferred 3-4-2-1 wing-back system. But he said: 'I really like when Bruno has the ball. 'Last year I felt that sometimes I pushed him back to have more possession in the build-up and then we missed Bruno near the box. 'But we miss Bruno sometimes when he's playing as a No 10 but there are times when he's playing there and can't get the ball. 'He runs a lot and has a lot of endurance. He's smart and ready for the physicality, playing deep or as a midfielder.' Fernandes is a goalscorer and a goal threat. He will not be as effective from deeper. 6 Alternatively, his desire to get forward and impact the game could result in a lack of positional discipline, a flaw which opposing managers will swiftly jump on. Amorim tried to paint a different picture, arguing that with his side now having more thrust and dynamism going forward: 'If you have a player with the quality of Bruno, without pressure on the ball, it gives us more options.' Yet if United had banked Al-Hilal's £100m — and Al-Nassr may bideven more — they might have landed a more natural and defence-minded option to fill the void. Round pegs, round holes. Amorim's system relies on wing-backs providing width but the danger is them being caught out of defensive position, with the onus on the central midfielders to cover any shortcomings. That is not Fernandes' prime asset. Had he chosen Saudi in June, it would have left broken hearts. Doing it now might cause despair. Orioles rally late against Cubs behind Gunnar Henderson's homer
August 2 - Gunnar Henderson belted a three-run homer in the four-run eighth inning to lift the visiting Baltimore Orioles to a 4-3 win against the Chicago Cubs in the middle game of their three-game series on Saturday afternoon. Ryan Brasier replaced Cubs starter Matthew Boyd to start the eighth inning and walked the leadoff batter on four pitches before giving up a single to Jeremiah Jackson. Caleb Thielbar (2-3) replaced Brasier with one out and surrendered an RBI single to Jordan Westburg to cut it to 3-1 and end an 18-inning scoreless streak for Baltimore. Henderson then stepped up and blasted a home run into the wind in dead center to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead. Orioles right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano went five innings, allowing three runs and five hits while striking out five and walking one. Corbin Martin, Grant Wolfram (2-0) and Yennier Cano combined for three shutout innings before Keegan Akin pitched the ninth for his first save of the season. Westburg had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Jackson also had two hits for the Orioles, who lost the series opener 1-0 on Friday afternoon. MK Dons and Oldham begin campaign with 0-0 draw
A match of few chances produced just one shot on target in the whole game, with neither side finding a decisive breakthrough. Oldham were playing their first EFL match in three years, with last season's National League play-off winners visiting an MK Dons side tipped by many to challenge for promotion. A first half of few opportunities saw Oldham's Kane Drummond fire wide from the edge of the box, while MK Dons saw a penalty appeal for a challenge on Aaron Collins rejected. Both sides picked up the pace after the break, but still chances would not come. MK Dons saw Jonathan Leko's cross almost ricochet goalwards off Ryan Woods, while Luke Hannant thought he had won a penalty for the visitors – only to be booked for diving. Oldham's Mike Fondop had a strike denied by Craig MacGillivray, in what was the game's first and indeed only shot on target, in the 88th minute.
