The Indian team secured five gold medals, including double podium finishes in the women's 800m final and the long jump event, on the second and final day of the Taiwan Open International Athletics Championship on Sunday. Three-time national champion Vithya Ramraj, Rohit Yadav, Pooja, Krishan Kumar, and Annu Rani each won gold in their respective events, marking an impressive performance by the Indian contingent. Yashas Palaksha won silver in the men's 400m hurdles with a personal best time of 42.22s, boosting his confidence after missing the 2025 Asian Championships. Vithya clocked 56.53s to secure gold in the women's 400m hurdles event, her third-best time of the year, earning her valuable ranking points for the upcoming World Championships. The Tamil Nadu athlete competes in the 400m hurdles, 400m, and 4×400m relay. Previously, she had clocked 56.04s in the Federation Cup final and 56.46s in the Asian Championship final. Despite not surpassing the 75m mark in the men's javelin throw, Rohit's best throw of 74.42m was enough to claim gold. Taipei's Huang Shih-Feng won silver with a throw of 74.04m, and Cheng Chao-Tsun took bronze with 73.95m. Pooja won the women's 800m final with a championship record time of 2:02.79, edging out compatriot Twinkle Chaudhary, who took silver with 2:06.96s. Krishan Kumar made a comeback to win gold in the men's 800m final with a championship record time of 1:48.46s. In the women's javelin final, Annu Rani secured gold with a throw of 56.82m. Although it was not her season's best, it was enough to beat Sri Lanka's Hatarabage Lekamalage (56.82m) and Taipei's Pin-Hsun Chu (53.03m). In the women's long jump event, India's Shaili Singh (6.41m) and Ancy Sojan (6.39m) won silver and bronze medals, respectively, finishing behind Australia's Delta Amidzovski, who took gold with a jump of 6.49m. CBI nabs postal official, driver in bribery case

Lucknow: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested a sub-divisional inspector (SDI) of India Post and a driver for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a branch postmaster in Jaunpur. The arrested accused were identified as Ankit Singh, SDI of Madiyahu and Rohit Yadav, a mail motor driver. According to the CBI, a case was registered on May 19 following a complaint. Ankit had conducted an inspection of the Seur post office in Jaunpur on May 15, where the complainant is posted as postmaster. During the inspection, a cash shortage was allegedly found, and the complainant was asked to submit a clarification, which he did on May 17. It is alleged that on the same day, SDI Ankit Singh demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 to settle the matter and to avoid the complainant's suspension. Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught Rohit Yadav red-handed while accepting the bribe on behalf of the SDI. Both accused were arrested and produced before the court of the special judge, anti-corruption (CBI), Court No. 6, Lucknow.

He started the season with personal best at the National Games in Uttarakhand and won gold in Federation Cup in Kochi earlier this month. He will be representing India at the Asian Championships (May 27-31) in South Korea. Rohit has a personal best of 83.40m and is yet to make a proper comeback after his surgery last year. He had won a silver in the Uttarakhand National Games with 80.47m, but settled for the seventh place with a modest 76.37m in the Federation Cup. Sahil is another promising javelin thrower and has a personal best of 81.81m which he had achieved last year at the National Inter-State Championships winning gold medal. While Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem declined Neeraj's offer to play in the Neeraj Chopra Classic citing clash of dates with his training schedule for the upcoming Asian Athletics Championships, several athletes including former World Champion Anderson Peters and former Olympic champion Thomas Rohler agreed to participate in the event.
