The playing fields at the 49th Boys & Girls Junior PGA Championships are chock full of Palm Beach County golf talent. 10 local golfers will compete in the PGA of America's premier junior event from July 29-Aug. 1 at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana. Jupiter's Grace Carter, North Palm Beach's Wylie Inman and Jupiter's Charlie Woods will be back in competition this week after recently taking part in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. The Junior PGA Championships are comprised of two 72-hole stroke play tournaments for boys and girls junior amateur golfers. This year's boys and girls tournaments will each feature 156 golfers, respectively. First round play is scheduled for Tuesday with the boys tournament on Purdue University's Ackerman-Allen Course and the girls tournament on the Kampen-Cosler Course. The tournament will cut to the top 60 plus ties after Wednesday's second round. It will cut down to the top 30 plus ties after the third round on Thursday. The Junior PGA Championships were first hosted in 1976 and have a long history in Palm Beach County. From 1980-2000, the event was hosted PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens in all but two years. In 1990, Tiger Woods finished runner-up to Fort Lauderdale's Chris Couch at PGA National. Previous tournament winners include major champions Trevor Immelman and David Toms. UNC golfer and National Player of the Year earns PGA Tour Card
UNC golfer and National Player of the Year earns PGA Tour Card UNC adds another name to the PGA Tour roster this week as David Ford received his PGA TOUR Card on Tuesday. Ford will join Davis Love III, Tom Scherrer, Mark Wilson, and Pat Moore as Tar Heel representatives on the Tour. Ford has been a dynamic golfer for most of his life, winning the Junior Players Championship and Rolex Tournament of Champions before even joining the Tar Heel family. Once he arrived at college, Ford was an instant success. In his first year, he was the No. 1 player on the Rolex AJGA and Golfweek junior rankings, winning ACC Freshman of the Year in 2022, followed by ACC Player of the Year in 2023. He won the 2022 Southern Amateur and 2023 Jones Cup Invitational. He made his first PGA Tour start at the 2023 Barbasol Championship, where he even made the cut after the first two rounds. This season, Ford walked away with the Haskins Award as the NCAA National Player of the Year. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan had this to say: "Officially welcoming Luke, Gordon, and David to the PGA TOUR family marks the beginning of an exciting journey for three rising stars — and further underscores why this is the most competitive Tour in the world. PGA TOUR University is one of several direct pathways to the top of our sport, and we're committed to continuing to reward the highest achievers in college golf for years to come.' Ford certainly still has his best years to come and will get the opportunity to play in many PGA Tour events in the future. Earning his Tour Card now gives him a ticket to play on the highest level of professional golf in North America. The amateur is no longer an amateur; now, he is a professional and represents North Carolina proudly. TaylorMade signs top-ranked junior Asterisk Talley to endorsement deal
TaylorMade signs top-ranked junior Asterisk Talley to endorsement deal Asterisk Talley is the top female golfer on the Rolex AJGA rankings, and now she joins Nelly Korda, Brooke Henderson, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy on TaylorMade's staff. Show Caption Hide Caption TaylorMade P·790 irons for 2025 offer better feel, more distance TaylorMade's updated P·790 irons have a new face material to go along with tungsten weights and updated internal structures enhance feel and distance TaylorMade Golf has signed 16-year-old amateur golfer Asterisk Talley to a sponsorship deal. Talley is the top-ranked junior girl's golfer in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and recently competed in the U.S. Women's Open. TaylorMade has a stable of staff players that includes Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Nelly Korda and Brooke Henderson, and on Wednesday, the Carlsbad, California-based company added 16-year-old Asterisk Talley to that group. While the rules governing amateur athletics have changed in recent years, allowing many athletes to be paid for the use of their name, image and likeness (NIL), financial details regarding the partnership between Talley and TaylorMade were not disclosed. Talley, a native of Chowchilla, California, is currently the top-ranked player in the Girls division of the Rolex AJGA Rankings, having won the 2025 AJGA Fortinet Stanford Invitational and ANNIKA Junior Invitational titles. Last season, she competed in the U.S. Women's Open (where she finished 44th) and was on the United States team that narrowly lost the Curtis Cup, a competition between the best female amateur golfers from America against the best players from Great Britain and Ireland. However, in that event, Talley shined, going 2-1-1 in match play, including a singles win over Lottie Woad, who is the top-ranked female amateur golfer in the world. 'As a company that's always looking to the future, we prioritize cultivating relationships with top-tier youth talent, and Asterisk certainly fits that mold. Her accomplishments at such a young age are remarkable. But just as importantly, she's a phenomenal young woman of standup character. We couldn't be more excited about our partnership with Asterisk; she has a tremendously bright future ahead both on and off the course.' - Eddie Erkmanis, TaylorMade Vice President of Sports Marketing According to TaylorMade, it is anticipated that Talley will be using the following clubs this season: DRIVER: TaylorMade Qi35 (9 degrees) FAIRWAY WOOD: TaylorMade Qi35 (16.5 degrees) HYBRID: TaylorMade Qi (19 degrees) IRONS: TaylorMade P·790 (4-5), P·7MC (6-PW) WEDGES: TaylorMade Milled Grind 4 (50, 54, 60 degrees) PUTTER: TaylorMade Spider Tour X BALL: TaylorMade TP5x
