Tiger Woods' son Charlie soars in junior golf rankings after first AJGA tournament victory

Charlie Woods is roaring up the junior golf rankings in the wake of his first career American Junior Golf Association victory. Woods, a rising junior at the Benjamin School and the son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, is ranked No. 14 in the latest edition of the AJGA boys rankings, more than 595 spots better than his previous ranking of No. 609. Advertisement Woods earned his first career AJGA win on May 28 with a three-stroke victory at the Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Resort's Black Course in Bowling Green, Florida. It was an individual breakthrough for Woods, whose previous best AJGA finish was a tie for 25th at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in South Carolina in March. He shot a final round 66 (6-under) to close the tournament at 15-under overall, defeating top junior players like Jacksonville Beach's Miles Russell (No. 1 in the previous AJGA rankings) as well as Luke Colton (No. 5) and Alabama's Tyler Watts (No. 7). Woods is the son of golf legend Tiger Woods and finished at +6. Woods currently does not appear in any fields for upcoming AJGA tournaments. The field includes the top 58 boys in the Rolex AJGA Rankings as of July 8 as well a select group of international invitees and additional spots available at the tournament organizer's discretion. Talley is the top-ranked junior girl's golfer in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and recently competed in the U.S. Women's Open. TaylorMade has a stable of staff players that includes Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Nelly Korda and Brooke Henderson, and on Wednesday, the Carlsbad, California-based company added 16-year-old Asterisk Talley to that group. While the rules governing amateur athletics have changed in recent years, allowing many athletes to be paid for the use of their name, image and likeness (NIL), financial details regarding the partnership between Talley and TaylorMade were not disclosed. Talley, a native of Chowchilla, California, is currently the top-ranked player in the Girls division of the Rolex AJGA Rankings, having won the 2025 AJGA Fortinet Stanford Invitational and ANNIKA Junior Invitational titles. Last season, she competed in the U.S. Women's Open (where she finished 44th) and was on the United States team that narrowly lost the Curtis Cup, a competition between the best female amateur golfers from America against the best players from Great Britain and Ireland. However, in that event, Talley shined, going 2-1-1 in match play, including a singles win over Lottie Woad, who is the top-ranked female amateur golfer in the world. 'As a company that's always looking to the future, we prioritize cultivating relationships with top-tier youth talent, and Asterisk certainly fits that mold. Her accomplishments at such a young age are remarkable. But just as importantly, she's a phenomenal young woman of standup character. We couldn't be more excited about our partnership with Asterisk; she has a tremendously bright future ahead both on and off the course.' - Eddie Erkmanis, TaylorMade Vice President of Sports Marketing According to TaylorMade, it is anticipated that Talley will be using the following clubs this season: DRIVER: TaylorMade Qi35 (9 degrees) FAIRWAY WOOD: TaylorMade Qi35 (16.5 degrees) HYBRID: TaylorMade Qi (19 degrees) IRONS: TaylorMade P·790 (4-5), P·7MC (6-PW) WEDGES: TaylorMade Milled Grind 4 (50, 54, 60 degrees) PUTTER: TaylorMade Spider Tour X BALL: TaylorMade TP5x

Nelly Korda's AJGA invitational adds Chevron as sponsor, will award LPGA major exemption

Nelly Korda's AJGA invitational adds Chevron as sponsor, will award LPGA major exemption Nelly Korda's not playing this week in Singapore, but she's still making history. The world No. 1's junior event, The Nelly Invitational, will offer something no other AJGA ever has – direct entry into a major championship. With the announcement of Chevron as the new presenting sponsor comes a special exemption to the winner of The Nelly into the LPGA's first major of the season, the Chevron Championship. The second edition of The Nelly will take place at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida, from May 1-4, and which means this year's champion will be exempt into the 2026 Chevron. Korda, of course, won the 2024 Chevron Championship for her second career major title. While The Nelly is already an AJGA invitational, the field will be strengthened even more in 2025 with invitations to the top-10 eligible international players that may not be AJGA members and/or didn't previously qualify for the event through the Rolex AJGA Rankings. Those players will be selected off the World Amateur Golf Ranking. And to ensure no player is left behind due to financial barriers, Chevron will offer $2,000 travel stipends for entry fees, flights, hotels and rental cars, the highest stipends in AJGA history for a stroke-play event. International players will receive an additional $500. Chevron signed on for a three-year commitment. "I'm thrilled to welcome Chevron to The Nelly Invitational," Korda said in a release. "With their support, we're creating an event that not only brings together some of the best girls from around the world but also provides a platform to inspire and empower the next generation. Chevron's investment helps us build on last year's success and take this event even further." The Chevron, previously known as the Dinah Shore, has a long history of inviting top amateurs. In 2014, there were 10 amateurs in the field. Jasmine Koo won low amateur honors last year after she hit the floating logo on the 18th hole and bounced onto dry land, managing to close with birdie.
