Markets in twin cities buzz with Eid prep

The twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are abuzz with Eid preparations as shoppers flock to markets, malls, and shopping centres. The festive spirit is in full swing, with families, youth, and children eagerly searching for the best deals, turning the cities into a lively spectacle of colour, joy, and celebration. The commercial hubs are bustling with activity as vendors display vibrant Eid collections, ranging from traditional attire to festive delicacies. Shopkeepers attract customers with special discounts, adding to the excitement and anticipation of the upcoming celebration. This year, rising tailoring costs make off-the-rack outfits a practical choice, offering affordability and diverse fashion options. For many, these pre-stitched options strike the right balance between affordability and trendiness. Inamur Rehman, a resident of Islamabad, while talking to the media, said, "It's overwhelming to witness such massive crowds yet encouraging for local businesses." he highlighted how ready-made garments have streamlined Eid shopping for many while stressing the need for more discounts. "Shopkeepers should offer promotions to help more people celebrate Eid with ease," he said, adding that it's essential to support the underprivileged during this time. "As Muslims, we have a duty to remember and support those who are less fortunate," said Romana, a shopper from Rawalpindi. "This year, I chose ready-to-wear clothes because of their variety and affordability," she said. "I found everything I needed, in line with the latest trends and traditional styles." She urged authorities and business owners to introduce more price cuts on Eid-related items. "If discounts are offered, lower-income families would be able to participate in the celebrations without financial strain," she added. After spotting the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah on coming Wednesday, the shopping frenzy is set to intensify as malls and bazaars extend hours to accommodate surging crowds.

SAD leader accuses Faridkot varsity VC of financial irregularities, latter mulling filing defamation case

Bathinda: SAD leader Parambans Singh Romana has accused the VC of Faridkot's Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Rajiv Sood, of financial irregularities and nepotism, among other charges. Speaking to the media in Faridkot Monday, Romana alleged that Sood has appointed his wife, son and relatives to different posts in the university, turning it into his fiefdom. He also accused him of bypassing the tendering process for certain works, and demanded an independent probe to get to the bottom of the issue, or the party would approach the high court. He said Rs 90 lakh was paid for the renovation of a 750 KLD sewage treatment plant (STP) when a top-of-the-line STP of a similar capacity cost only Rs 20 lakh. To bypass tendering, a work order to renovate the senate hall was given for Rs 80 lakh but in small chunks of less than Rs 5 lakh each. "Even the PET scan secured by the nuclear medicine department was not purchased directly from Siemens, as is done by the PGIMER, Chandigarh, but through a middleman," Romana alleged. Earlier, some people from Faridkot, including an AAP leader, had complained about financial irregularities in BFUHS under the present VC. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 嘉信賦予您更多美市投資選擇 嘉信理財香港 了解更多 Undo Vigilance sleuths visited the university two days ago for an investigation. When contacted, VC Sood called the allegations baseless and said he is in touch with the state govt to take a legal recourse. Speaking to TOI, the VC said he formed a panel of 30 people — experts in different fields — to give advice on various issues, and his wife and son are acting as advisors without receiving any wages. They were working in an honorary capacity, not as employees, but as some sort of advisors. All the works are being undertaken as per law through the tendering process, and anybody can check the floating of tenders. Regarding claims of a top-of-the-line STP needed in the university costing only Rs 20 lakh, he is ready to order it. He said, "I am consulting the state govt and counsels to file a defamation case."

MOVIE REVIEW: We see if we should keep our distance from horror 'The Woman in the Yard'

Spanish director Jaume Collet-Serra has a varied back catalogue that includes horror (the House of Wax remake, Orphan ). He turns to the dark side once again for Blumhouse's latest which follows Romana (Danielle Deadwyler) and her kids Taylor (Peyton Jackson) and Annie (Estella Kahiha) as they encounter a mysterious Woman (Okwui Okpokwasili) who repeatedly appears sitting in their front yard. It's a small cast in a self-contained farmhouse location so a lot rides on the quality of the acting and storytelling. The former is strong; Deadwyler unleashes a torrent of emotions - and says so much via her expressive eyes - and Jackson and Kahiha comfortably pass for siblings rocked by a family tragedy and frightened by the titular antagonist's arrival. Often bathed in darkness, and for the most part covered in a black cloak, Collet-Serra shoots Okpokwasili from every angle and distance while the actress unsettles using a distorted voice and unclear intentions. When she eventually gets out of her chair, her wobbly movements and simple decaying make-up, accompanied by a throbbing musical score, add to Okpokwasili's imposing presence. Collet-Serra delivers tilted camera work and makes the most of sunlight and shadow to support the off-kilter environment. However, sadly, that's where the positives end. The focus on grief and loss is admirable but ensures this is a tough watch. The constant sniping between Romana and Taylor wears you down and the lines between reality and fantasy blur so much it's not abundantly clear what exactly is going on during the final third. As I've said before, the biggest crime a horror flick can commit is not being scary and while The Woman in the Yard tries its best to be, it fails. A couple of jump scares and the Woman's appearance aside, this is pure family drama that is both bleak and instantly forgettable. It probably would have worked better as a short film - and at least that way poor Okpokwasili wouldn't have had to spend so long sitting in that chair. ● Pop me an email at and I will pass on any movie or TV show recommendations you have to your fellow readers. ● The Woman in the Yard is showing in cinemas now. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Pizza Express marks 60 years with 33p pizzas – here's how to get yours

Pizza Express has been serving doughy delights to the British public for 60 years, and, to celebrate, it's offering a very tasty deal – rolling back its prices to match those seen at the pizzeria in the Sixties when the brand first launched. The high street staple first opened its doors in 1965, when a pizza would set you back mere pennies. If you've ever had a grandparent smugly recall how much a pint cost back in their day, you'll appreciate the scale of this price drop. This new deal includes some of Pizza Express's classics that are still among the most popular dishes served today. As part of the anniversary offer, a standard margherita will set you back just 33p, the la reine 49p, the American 45p, and the American hot just 50p. So, what's the catch? The deal is only available for one hour – between 5pm and 6pm on Thursday 27 March. To avoid disappointment, booking a table in advance is highly recommended. Fortunately, there's no need for fiddly sign-ups or lengthy voucher codes – you simply need to show up. That's 60 minutes of savings to celebrate 60 years of fluffy dough balls, sloppy Giuseppes, crispy Romana bases, and enough garlic butter to fill the Thames. Whether you're a loyal Pizza Express fan or just fancy a bargain bite, this is one deal you don't want to miss.
