Topps introduces Debut Patch card for UFC

(Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC) Topps is expanding its popular event-worn autograph cards to the UFC. This weekend's fight will mark the first time a Debut Patch will be used for the UFC when Andreas Gustafsson enters the Octagon for UFC Fight Night on May 31, broadening the program. Advertisement The patch will be worn on Gustafsson's right sleeve of his walk-out jersey and then will be removed after the bout. From there, the patch will go to Topps' facilities in Dallas and get made into a 1-of-1 patch card, which will later be signed by the fighter. This process follows the similar ones in the other sports that have included the Debut and Event Patch Cards. It hasn't been determined what UFC product the debut patch card will appear yet, but expect the newest UFC fighters to get the same treatment until that time. Topps started the Debut Patch Auto card program with MLB in 2023 to showcase a rookie's first game. It has since expanded to MLS (2024) rookies and WWE (2025), but for WrestleMania. (Topps) With the NBA (late 2025) and NFL (2026) on the horizon for Topps, it's likely to expand to nearly all of the major sports over the next two years. Advertisement Collectors have been enjoying the program as well, giving them a certified chase for a unique card they can place at a specific moment in time. The secondary market prices of the cards haven't hurt, either. On March 21, the Paul Skenes MLB Rookie Debut Patch Autograph sold for $1.2 million and was purchased by Dicks' Sporting Goods, which recently displayed the card in one of its stores. While other baseball Debut Patch Cards haven't realized seven figures, others have hit six figures like Jackson Holliday's, which sold for $198,000 in March. If the UFC patch program existed since the beginning of the sport, you would have seen cards for the fighters like Ronda Rousey, Anderson Silva or Khabib Nurmagomedov. Those would have seen impressive prices from their first fights. The addition of the UFC to Topps' Debut Patch program marks another step in the expansion of event-worn autograph cards across major sports. As more leagues and athletes are included, these cards continue to offer all types of collectors a unique way to feel closer to the sport.

Topps launches ‘Gold Logoman' cards celebrating MLB's top award winners

Topps is adding to its growing lineup of game-used, ultra high-end chases with a new Gold Logoman card, the company announced Saturday. Similar to the Rookie Debut Patch Autograph, Topps and Fanatics will collaborate with Nike and MLB for the Gold Logoman cards, which will be created from jerseys worn by the top award winners from each league last season. That lineup includes MVPs Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge, Cy Young winners Chris Sale and Tarik Skubal and Rookie of the Year winners Paul Skenes and Luis Gil. The players will wear the jerseys, which feature a special gold logo instead of the traditional club-colored silhouette on the back, for the entire 2025 season. The jerseys will be authenticated throughout the year with 10 from each player used to create the Gold Logoman cards after the season. Topps didn't immediately announce which products the cards will appear in. ????????????????????????????????: MLB, Topps & Fanatics have partnered on a brand-new Gold MLB Logo Patch award winners — Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, Paul Skenes, Luis Gil, Tarik Skubal, and Chris Sale — will wear a Gold MLB Logo Patch throughout the 2025 season. These game-worn… — Topps (@Topps) March 15, 2025 Ohtani will wear the first jersey used to create Gold Logoman cards when the Dodgers play an exhibition game against the Yomiuri Giants Saturday in the Tokyo Series. Fanatics will also sell retail versions of all six players' authentic home, away, City Connect and alternate jerseys. The Gold Logoman cards are the latest push by Topps and Fanatics to include more game-used memorabilia from specific moments in sports card products. The trend started with the release of the Rookie Debut Patch Autograph in 2023 Topps Chrome Update, which features a one-of-a-kind patch created for and worn only during a player's MLB debut. These cards have quickly become some of the most coveted in the trading card hobby, surpassing the record sales of Superfractor 1/1 parallels in some cases. The Rookie Debut Patch worn by Skenes, which was pulled by an 11-year-old boy on Christmas last year, is currently up for auction at Fanatics Collect. As of Friday, the high bid for the card was $660,000, including buyer's premium. Topps has also made an effort in recent releases to include more Logoman patches in its high-end offerings — a trend that has been most popular during the ultra-modern era for basketball and football cards, which feature NBA Logoman and NFL Shield patches. Among Topps' new Logoman cards is the logo from the pants Ohtani was wearing when he hit the 50th home run of his historic 50-homer, 50-steal season last year. That Ohtani Logoman is part of the new Dynasty Black brand, which was announced in September and will feature memorabilia from specific moments. Currently up for auction at Heritage, the Ohtani Logoman has a high bid of $176,900, including buyer's premium, with nearly two weeks remaining. The use of gold to highlight award winners falls in line with the recent tradition of teams wearing gold-trimmed uniforms to celebrate World Series wins. According to ESPN, the modern tradition of gold-trimmed uniforms started with the 2005 Boston Sox following the team's historic win in 2004. Ben Burrows is a reporter and editor for cllct.
