#SHOWBIZ: Lisa slammed for Met Gala lingerie that appears to feature Rosa Parks' face

NEW YORK: K-pop star Lisa Manoban is facing a backlash after wearing Louis Vuitton lingerie to the Met Gala that appears to be illustrated with iconic activist Rosa Parks' face. New York Daily News reported that the 28-year-old Thai star of BlackPink sported a pearl-encrusted black blazer with a pearl chain to fashion's biggest night, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Lisa also wore sheer tights emblazoned with the Vuitton's signature symbols, over which were panties that appeared to bear the face of the late civil rights activist. Vogue reported that acclaimed Black artist Henry Taylor, known for embroidering miniature works onto clothing did so for the ensemble worn on Monday (May 5). One Netizen tweeted: "Using Rosa Parks' image in this manner appears to be a blatant lack of respect and sensitivity towards her legacy and the struggles she faced during the Civil Rights Movement." This year's theme Tailored For You is a cultural and historical examination of Black style over three hundred years. Parks, who was 92 when she died in 2005, organised the 381-day Montgomery Bus Boycott to protest segregated seating on buses.

Fashion's biggest night, which we have all been waiting for, is here! Yes, the 2025 Met Gala. Celebrities from all around the world have brought their A-game, following this year's theme, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style", with a dress code of 'Tailored For You". Among the attendees was BLACKPINK's Lisa. She made her Met Gala debut this year. The K-pop idol walked the blue carpet wearing a Louis Vuitton outfit comprising a black bejewelled bodysuit paired with a sparkly blazer and sheer tights, ditching pants altogether. Lisa wore her hair in a messy updo and opted for a sleek necklace. After she debuted her look at the prestigious event, the BLACKPINK member received much backlash on social media. This year's event is intended to celebrate Black Dandy styling, and Lisa's outfit did exactly that. But eagle-eyed people on the internet noticed a small detail on her undergarment, which left them disappointed. People noticed that her outfit featured embroidered portraits by Black artist Henry Taylor, and on closer inspection, they found out that Lisa's underwear had American activist Rosa Parks' face on it, which many thought was very disrespectful. [Taking to X, many expressed their disappointment over Lisa's choice of outfit, with one saying, 'Using Rosa Parks' image in this manner appears to be a blatant lack of respect and sensitivity towards her legacy and the struggles she faced during the Civil Rights Movement. Furthermore, it reinforces harmful racial stereotypes and undermines the progress made in combating racism." Lisa, being an ethnic minority in a country that heavily discriminates poc, having a historical figure like Rosa Parks worn in a vulgar way is wilddd." BLACKPINK's Lisa reportedly apologised to her fans and followers after the immense backlash. Rosa Parks was a pivotal figure in the Black community who fought for their rights for years. The American civil rights activist is best known for not giving up her seat on a bus for a white passenger in Montgomery, Alabama, back in 1955. This simple act of defiance by Parks sparked the Montgomery bus boycott, which marked the beginning of the civil rights movement and led to the end of racial discrimination on public transportation.
