IIT Madras Intern Sexually Harassed By Food Court Staff
Chennai: A 22-year-old man has been arrested allegedly for sexually harassing an intern at the IITM (Madras), police said on Saturday. The arrested was working at a food court inside the institute and he allegedly sexually harassed a 20-year-old intern on the campus on June 25 night, police said. Taking suo moto cognizance of the offence, the National Commission for Women chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar wrote to Tamil Nadu DGP calling for a fair and time-bound investigation under relevant provisions of BNS, 2023. 'NCW has also directed the authorities to ensure the victim receives immediate medical and psychological support,' the Commission said in a post on the social media platform X on Saturday. The incident occurred around 7.30 pm when the woman intern was walking alone in the campus. According to Kotturpuram police, the man who held a stick went close to her and pulled her hair. Immediately, the intern raised an alarm. The security personnel on the campus rushed to her rescue. The police later identified the suspect as one Roshan Kumar, a native of Maharashtra, who was working at a food court in IIT (M). He was arrested and remanded on June 26. Further investigation is on. Meanwhile, responding to the incident, the IIT (M) stated that an unfortunate incident took place at the IIT Madras campus on June 25, when a contractual employee of a vendor operating on the campus "misbehaved" with a woman student, visiting from other institute. 'The girl raised an alarm and the culprit was held by the institute security and handed over to the local police. IIT (M) has a zero tolerance policy towards sexual harassment and we are committed to provide a safe and secure campus to all,' the institute said in a statement.

According to police sources, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when the survivor was walking alone on campus. She managed to escape from the attacker's clutches and raised an alarm. The security personnel on duty responded quickly, came to her aid, and apprehended the suspect, who was later handed over to the police. The police arrested the youth who has been identified as Roshan Kumar, 22, of Maharashtra, a contractual employee of a vendor operating on the varsity campus.

Woman intern sexually assaulted on IIT Madras campus; man arrested after two days
CHENNAI: A 20-year-old woman intern was accosted and sexually assaulted on IIT Madras campus by a food court employee on June 25. Two days later, the Kotturpuram police tracked down the culprit – Roshan Kumar of Mumbai, working at Mumbai Chat for the past six months – and arrested him on Friday. While IIT-M's official statement later on Friday evening said its security personnel traced Roshan Kumar, 22, and handed him over to police, the latter said that on receiving a complaint from the IIT-M management, they took over the probe, scanned CCTV camera footage and arrested the culprit. According to police, the woman, who is from another institute and is undergoing an internship at IIT-M, was walking near the institute's open-air theatre around 9.15pm on Wednesday when she was accosted by a man who threatened her with a stick, pulled her hair and molested her. She managed to raise an alarm and escape and reported the incident to campus security. The authorities later alerted the Kotturpuram police, who collected CCTV camera footage and other technical evidence. Youth killed, minor girl injured in Jehanabad celebratory firing
Patna: A 17-year-old youth was killed and a 12-year-old girl was seriously injured in a celebratory firing during a dance programme of a wedding at Korma village under Ghosi police station area in Jehanabad district on Saturday night. The youth, Roshan Kumar, son of Rajesh Yadav of Korma village, was rushed to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for treatment but he succumbed to his injuries, while the injured girl was undergoing treatment at the hospital. She is the daughter of Judagi Bind of the same village, police said. Sadar SDPO, Sanjeev Kumar, said, "The shooter is Vijay's brother-in-law's son, who is on the run after the incident, while the girl's entire family has left their home. The police are investigating the matter and arrests will be made soon." It was the wedding of Vijay Bind's daughter and the baraat had come from Dina Bigaha village under Makhadumpur police station area, he station house officer (SHO), Dadan Prasad, said a dance programme was underway at the wedding venue. Meanwhile, three unidentified youths climbed on the stage and started firing with a double-barrelled gun. A boy and a girl, who were watching the event, sustained bullet injuries in their stomach. "The injured youth and the girl were rushed to the sadar hospital for treatment. From there, the youth was referred to the PMCH where the doctors declared him dead. An FIR has been filed on the statements of the deceased's family against unidentified persons. Raids are being carried out to nab the accused," the SHO added.
