WATCH: Hospital group provides free surgeries
TO commemorate Mandela Day, Busamed Private Hospital Group performed life-changing surgeries at no cost to people who were either on long State hospital waiting lists or have been unable to access the necessary care.
This was Busamed's group-wide campaign through their UniversalCare@Busamed programme, the group's ongoing commitment to fulfilling their purpose of empowering communities to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Roxy Naidoo, marketing manager at Busamed Hillcrest Private Hospital, said in tribute to Nelson Mandela's 67 years of public service, their goal is to perform 67 surgeries across the Busamed group during July 2025.

The majority of these surgeries took place on Mandela Day, July 18.
'All procedures are offered at no cost to the patients. Services are donated by our surgeons, anaesthetists, nursing staff, allied professionals, and hospital teams.
'Medical consumables and pharmaceuticals are sponsored by our valued industry partners.'
According to Naidoo, on the day of surgeries, employees will have the opportunity to volunteer in any capacity — whether within their professional role or in support activities such as admissions, patient transport, catering, housekeeping, or hosting families.
'This initiative aligns with our ongoing UniversalCare@Busamed programme, representing a tangible, compassionate demonstration of our purpose, to empower our communities to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
'It's an opportunity for our teams to come together in service of our patients and communities, honouring the legacy of Nelson Mandela through real, life-altering impact.'
