Body found in Turks & Caicos amid search for missing American man, local police say

Police in Turks and Caicos found the body of a man amid an ongoing search for an American reported missing nearby almost two weeks earlier, local authorities said over the weekend. The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) said they received a call at around 5:06 p.m. local time reporting a "body seen in some bushes." Authorities immediately dispatched to the location along Miracle Close in Grace Bay and discovered the body, according to a July 6 statement. The dead man was not immediately named, but efforts are underway to confirm their identity. "The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," Acting Commissioner of Police Rodney Adams said in a July 5 statement. Police shied away from making any direct connections between this discovery and the search for Brian Tarrence, a 51-year-old New York City resident who was last seen at the Paradise Inn near Grace Bay Beach on June 25. Security footage showed Tarrence leaving his Paradise Inn condo at about 4 a.m. on June 25 and heading toward town in Grace Bay. "We urge members of the public to refrain from speculation and allow the investigation process to confirm the identity through official channels," Adams added.

Was Brian Tarrence Murdered? Probe Launched After Body Found During Search for Missing NYC Tourist During Turks and Caicos Trip with Wife

Police on a Caribbean island have launched a murder investigation after finding a decomposed body believed to be that of a Manhattan man who vanished while on a romantic trip with his wife. The Turks and Caicos Islands Police said on Facebook Sunday that the grim discovery was made on Saturday — less than two weeks after New Yorker Brian Tarrence vanished from a nearby Airbnb — is now being treated as a "suspected homicide." Authorities have not yet officially identified the body. This came after investigators found "the body of a deceased male in a state of decomposition," Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force said, according to a CBS report. Murder Investigation Launched "Efforts are underway to confirm the identity of the deceased," police said online. "Once an identification has been made, the next of kin will be notified in accordance with standard procedures." Tarrence, 51, of Midtown Manhattan, traveled to the Turks and Caicos Islands on June 22 for a romantic vacation with his wife of one year before mysteriously disappearing. The couple was staying at an Airbnb in Grace Bay and had planned to return to New York on June 29, according to News 12 Westchester. On Saturday, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force and a private investigator made the grim discovery during an hours-long search for Tarrence. "We the police extend condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and ask that the public not speculate and await positive identification of the deceased," acting Commissioner Rodney Adams said. Only three days into their vacation, Tarrence left the rental property while his wife was asleep — and has not been seen since. "Everything prior to the point where he walked out of that house, he seems fine," private investigator Carl DeFazio told the local outlet. "The worst thing is not knowing," he added. "Every day that goes by is not good." The couple arrived on June 22 at the iconic Grace Bay Beach on the northeast coast of Providenciales — a renowned destination known for its clear turquoise waters, soft white sand, and high-end resorts. On June 25, just three days into their stay, Tarrence and his wife spent the afternoon enjoying a boat outing before going out for dinner. But later that night, his wife woke up to find he was no longer in their rental home. Death Shrouded in Mystery After being reported, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police reviewed nearby surveillance footage, which showed Tarrence — dressed in a T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers — walking toward the busy downtown area around 3:30 a.m. "That's little bizarre in itself," investigator DeFazio told News 12, questioning why Tarrence would leave the rental at that hour. "He's in the middle of town. His wife was sleeping." DeFazio added that the area where Tarrence vanished is generally considered "very safe," and confirmed that he had both his cellphone and wallet with him when he left. Tarrence's family hired private investigator DeFazio to investigate the sudden disappearance, as it has now been almost a week since he went missing. "So far, we haven't been successful in anything, but we're not giving up hope," DeFazio said. DeFazio, a former NYPD officer and Marine, has been trying to access records of the 51-year-old's phone usage while he was in the islands. Tarrence's wife has decided to stay back in Turks and Caicos for the time being, staying hopeful that he will be found.

Brian Tarrence: Body Found in Search of American Tourist Who Mysteriously Disappeared While on Trip With Wife in Turks and Caicos

A man's decomposed body was found during the search for a New York man who vanished while on a vacation after mysteriously leaving his rental in the middle of the night last week in Turks and Caicos, local authorities said. Investigators found "the body of a deceased male in a state of decomposition," the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force said, CBS reported. However, they have not yet confirmed whether the body is that of Brian Tarrence, who disappeared on June 25. Tarrence, 51, of Midtown Manhattan, traveled to the Turks and Caicos Islands on June 22 for a romantic vacation with his wife of one year before disappearing. Mysterious Disappearance and a Death The couple was staying at an Airbnb in Grace Bay and had planned to return to New York on June 29, according to News 12 Westchester. On Saturday, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force and a private investigator made the grim discovery during an hours-long search for Tarrence. Only three days into their vacation, Tarrence unexpectedly left the rental property while his wife was asleep — and has not been seen since. DeFazio added that the area where Tarrence vanished is generally considered "very safe," and confirmed that he had both his cellphone and wallet with him when he left. "We have him on camera, and he walks into town, and then he basically disappears, and we haven't heard from him since," he told the outlet. Tarrence's family hired private investigator DeFazio to examine the sudden and unusual disappearance, as it has now been almost a week since he went missing. "So far, we haven't been successful in anything, but we're not giving up hope," DeFazio said. DeFazio, a former NYPD officer and Marine, has been trying to access records of the 51-year-old's phone usage while he was in the islands, although he admitted that progress has been slow, News 12 reported. Meanwhile, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police are conducting their own investigation and have officially classified Tarrence as a missing person. Tarrence's wife has decided to stay back in Turks and Caicos for the time being, staying hopeful that he will be found.

New York Man Goes Missing While On A Romantic Vacation In Turks and Caicos Islands With Wife

Brian Tarrence, a 51-year-old Manhattan man, went missing in Turks and Caicos while on a romantic vacation with his wife. According to the New York Post, he was last seen on security footage leaving his rental property in Grace Bay, Providenciales, around 3:30 a.m. on June 25, heading towards the downtown area. According to private investigator Carl DeFazio, who was hired by Mr Tarrence's family, nothing unusual was reported in the days leading up to his disappearance. DeFazio mentioned that Mr Tarrence seemed fine before leaving the house, and it's unclear what happened after he walked into town. "They seemed to be having a normal couple of days, and he ended up walking out of his condo, which is in a very safe place and the middle of Grace Bay Road. And we have him on camera, and he walks into town, and then he basically disappears, and we haven't heard from him since," investigator, Carl DeFazio, told Fox News Digital on Tuesday. Notably, Brian Tarrence and his wife of one year arrived in Turks and Caicos on June 22 for a vacation that was supposed to last until June 29. According to DeFazio, Mr Tarrence was wearing a T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers when he left the Airbnb, and he had his cellphone and wallet with him. The area is considered "very safe," which makes his disappearance even more puzzling. However, it's unclear why he left the rental property in the middle of the night while his wife was sleeping. DeFazio described the situation as "a little bizarre." The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force has listed Mr Tarrence as missing and is investigating the matter, with DeFazio working to obtain records of Tarrence's phone activity on the islands. "So far, we haven't been successful in anything, but we're not giving up hope. … What I tell the family … in cases like this: Stay positive until you have a reason not to be. He's a smart guy. … We don't know what's in his mind or if he did this on his own or if somebody took him in," DeFazio, a former NYPD officer and Marine who has been a PI since the 1990s, said. DeFazio added that he's "very proud of the response from the local businesses and people on vacation," many of whom have offered their assistance after missing persons flyers with Tarrance's face were distributed 'everywhere in Turks and Caicos." The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force is using all available resources to locate him. This includes deploying drones to scan the area and reviewing CCTV footage to track his movements on the night he disappeared. According to DeFazio, there's currently no indication of foul play, but all possibilities are being considered. Mr Tarrence's wife is staying in Turks and Caicos to assist with the search efforts.
