Spacey told actor ‘don't worry about it' after alleged assault, documents claim

Kevin Spacey allegedly sexually assaulted a young actor at a party at The Savoy hotel and then told him 'Don't worry about it', court documents for the High Court legal claim suggest. Ruari Cannon is suing Mr Spacey as well as two organisations connected to the Old Vic Theatre in London, claiming he suffered psychiatric damage as a result of sexual and emotional abuse. The 33-year-old has waived his anonymity in the claim. In court documents seen by the PA news agency, Mr Cannon alleges that Mr Spacey, who was a 'powerful figure and a world-famous actor and celebrity' at the time, assaulted him in about June 2013, when he was 'a very vulnerable young man'. Oscar-winning actor Mr Spacey has previously denied allegations of inappropriate behaviour and wrongdoing, and details of his defence are not yet available. According to the documents, filed in June, Mr Spacey was working as artistic director at the Old Vic Theatre at the time of the alleged assaults on a production of a play by Tennessee Williams known as Sweet Bird Of Youth, and Mr Cannon was a member of the cast in this production. They claim that Mr Spacey 'took a particular interest' in Mr Cannon for 'reasons of sexual interest' and sent him a 'lavish' gift of a framed poster of the 1985 production of the play directed by Harold Pinter. After the press preview of the show on June 12 2013, Mr Cannon attended a party at The Savoy in London organised by The Old Vic Theatre Company (The Cut) and The Old Vic Theatre Trust 2000. It is claimed that one of the alleged assaults took place at the event. Setting out the allegations, Elizabeth-Anne Gumbel KC, for Mr Cannon, said: 'Kevin Spacey pulled the claimant towards him, turned him around through 45 degrees and placed his left hand on the claimant's buttocks and lifted up the recess material of his suit.' It is alleged that Mr Spacey then pushed Mr Cannon's underwear 'as far up' into his bottom as possible, 'so as to cause pain and distress'. Ms Gumbel added: 'Mr Kevin Spacey pulled the claimant closer to him and whispered into the claimant's ear 'Don't worry about it'. 'Mr Spacey made more uncalled for and unwelcome advances to the claimant during the evening.' The following day, Mr Cannon reported the alleged assaults to his stage manager at the Old Vic Theatre, but no action was taken. According to the documents, it is accepted that Mr Cannon did not ask for any action to be taken, and was scared about how any further action might affect his career. Later that year, during the run of the show, Mr Cannon saw Mr Spacey at the Old Vic bar. Mr Spacey allegedly said to him, 'I hear you have a dirty secret', and then said: 'Open up.' Ms Gumbel said: 'Kevin Spacey then forced open the claimant's mouth with his fingers and thumbs and commented 'quite a bad boy' before the claimant could pull away. 'The claimant then left the bar. The forcing open of the claimant's mouth was another assault for which Kevin Spacey was responsible and for which the second and/or third defendants were vicariously liable. 'Further in 2017 when the Old Vic set up a confidential complaints email on October 31 2017 the claimant reported the above complaint again to the Old Vic.' She added that the alleged assaults were carried out by Mr Spacey in the course of his work for the organisations connected to the Old Vic, and they are 'vicariously liable' for the alleged assaults carried out in the context of a theatre production.

Kevin Spacey Teases Plans For "Substantial" Comeback

Actor Kevin Spacey has faced plenty of allegations, legal troubles, and Hollywood blacklisting that it can be surprising to see he's eager for a 'substantial' comeback. Spacey also offered forgiveness for 'those who rushed to judgment,' given how his recent legal trials turned out to have been in his favor. The actor revealed as much while participating in an interview during his attendance of the Italian Global Series Festival (IGSF) in Rimini. He first answered when IGSF Artistic Director Marco Spagnoli asked about the way his legal experiences have changed him. Here's how Spacey answered via Deadline: 'These experiences have allowed me to stop, assess, reassess and listen, and be very grateful for the work I'm able to do both on screen and off screen. 'I'm filled with gratitude for those in my industry who stood by me, those individuals who were willing to wait for an outcome in the courts before they decided how they felt about me. Those people have my trust, and I will do everything I can to maintain their trust for the rest of my life.' Spacey continued to share a message for those who chose not to stand by him, and while he doesn't plan to work with them, he does offer them forgiveness: 'For those who rushed to judgment and decided I was guilty, and treated me accordingly, they have my forgiveness, but I am not seeking them out to collaborate.' Of course, Spacey is still involved with some legal issues, and most recently they involve a UK suit from actor Ruari Cannon. As with his previous lawsuits, however, he is denying the allegations and in general he has been adamant that he did not commit any illegal crimes even if he may have acted inappropriately at times. As such, we'll have to see how this potential and 'substantial' comeback for Kevin Spacey plays out. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding this situation as we have them. For now, Spacey has been keeping busy with a number of independent movie roles.

What has Kevin Spacey done to his face? Disgraced actor sparks plastic surgery rumors at Cannes

Kevin Spacey has sparked plastic surgery rumors as he made an appearance during the 2025 Cannes Film Festival this week. The disgraced actor, 65 - who sparked outrage for receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award just months after fresh sexual abuse allegations - could be seen posing with an award at the Better World Fund Gala Dinner on Tuesday. He accepted the honor for Excellence in Film and Television, although the gala is not an official part of the annual French film festival. As Spacey walked the red carpet at the event, he looked noticeably different with a taught, plump face. The House Of Cards alum donned a classic black suit as well as a white dress shirt and dark purple bowtie. The last time Kevin stopped by the Cannes Film Festival was nearly 10 years earlier while promoting his 2016 movie The Awakening. It comes two years after the actor was cleared of sexual assault allegations against four men during a U.K. trial in 2023. However, earlier this year in February the star was hit with another sexual abuse claim by Ruari Cannon and also two organizations connected to the Old Vic Theatre in London. Before the gala officially commenced on Tuesday, Spacey expressed: 'I've heard from so many of my friends, colleagues and co-stars in the last week since this award was announced that I feel surrounded by support,' per Reuters. In regards to making a comeback in the industry, he also told reporters, 'I'm glad to be working.' The Oscar winner garnered a Lifetime Achievement Award at Cannes for his 'impact on cinema in the arts.' Kevin was 'recognized not only for his decades of artistic brilliance but also his enduring impact on cinema and the arts,' according to a statement made by the fund. The gala is not an official part of the French film festival but the Carlton Hotel plays host to much of the activities during the prestigious event in Cannes. Since 2017, more than 30 men have accused the two-time Oscar-winning actor of sexual assault or inappropriate behavior, which led to Netflix axing his role on House of Cards. In regards to making a comeback in the industry, he also told reporters, 'I'm glad to be working'; seen above in House Of Cards In July 2023, the American Beauty star was found not guilty of assaulting four men after a four-week trial at Southwark Crown Court, in one of the UK's most high-profile #MeToo trials. The decision to celebrate Spacey by Better World Fund, a charity which aims to make a 'positive impact on the world,' has sparked outrage, with many calling it a 'disgrace' to the MeToo movement. One person on X wrote: 'Abusive men in our society are never "cancelled" - honestly losing my mind Cannes.' Another added: 'Cannes sh**s the bed every year. Their commitment to being the worst festival and a safe haven for men who belong in hell is unmatched.' While one person wrote: 'Kevin Spacey, Ezra Miller, Shia Labeouf and every other Hollywood abuser known to mankind prancing around Cannes but somehow nude and voluminous dresses were the real problem.' It comes months after the actor was hit with another sexual abuse claim, court records show - 18 months after he was cleared of a series of criminal charges. Ruari Cannon is suing Mr Spacey at the High Court, as well as two organizations connected to the Old Vic Theatre in London. Dushal Mehta, of law firm Fieldfisher, confirmed that he had issued a claim on behalf of Mr Cannon, and also said that he had waived his anonymity in the claim. No details of the allegations involved are currently available. Spacey was previously acquitted in criminal proceedings of several sexual offences alleged by four men between 2001 and 2013. One of the men, who cannot be identified, has also sued Mr Spacey over his claims he was sexually assaulted by the actor and suffered 'psychiatric damage', which the actor denies. The actor has denied all allegations of inappropriate behavior and criminal wrongdoing. Spacey's Academy Awards were for best supporting actor for The Usual Suspects in 1996 and best actor in 2000 for American Beauty, which also secured him a Bafta for leading actor. Last April, the actor appeared to dismiss claims of inappropriate behavior in Channel 4's documentary as he praised the men in the show for their 'great acting.' The two-part series came nine months after Spacey was cleared of nine sexual assault charges and looked at fresh claims against him made by several men, 'almost all of whom have never spoken before.' It is said to take a 'forensic look at a man who was once one of the most admired and respected actors in the world.' But Kevin seemed to disregard the show as a work of fiction in a statement given to entertainment magazine Variety. He said: 'I'm honored to be starring in my first film with Warner Brothers in many years. I hope the Academy takes note of some of the great acting by the lesser-known cast.' In May 2024, he thanked his fellow actors for defending him amidst the sexual abuse allegations. A raft of A-listers - including Liam Neeson and Sharon Stone - rallied around the Oscar-winning star to call for an end to his 'seven-year exile.' The American Beauty actor went on NewsNation with Chris Cuomo to express his gratitude for the support he received from colleagues. 'I'm enormously gratified that friends of mine who reached out to me and that I've been speaking to for your years now have been motivated by this documentary that was put out.' Fresh allegations were made against him in the Channel 4 bombshell documentary - and Spacey accused the broadcaster of ' having an agenda' in deciding to go ahead with airing its two-part film, Spacey Unmasked. The documentary featured previously unheard testimonies about the actor's alleged inappropriate behavior. In an interview with former GB News presenter Dan Wootton, he commented on claims made in the Channel 4 documentary. While accepting he may at times have behaved inappropriately in the past, he denied his behavior was illegal. Spacey has been

Kevin Spacey to get charity award in Cannes despite new scandal

The Better World Fund told AFP that the actor will be recognised "for his decades of artistic brilliance" at a charity gala, another step in the controversial rehabilitation of the scandal-plagued star. The charity told AFP Monday that it invited Spacey to the French Rivera resort because he had been cleared by the courts. The invitation to Cannes -- where Spacey has not been seen on the red carpet since 2016 -- comes as the main festival has been enforcing a new no-tolerance policy on sexual misconduct, under pressure from lawmakers and #MeToo anti-abuse activists. A festival spokesperson declined to comment when contacted by AFP. Spacey was acquitted of nine cases of alleged sex offences in Britain in 2023 and a New York court dismissed a $40 million civil sexual misconduct lawsuit against the "Usual Suspects" actor in 2022. But last May new claims of inappropriate sexual behaviour emerged in a British television documentary, "Spacey Unmasked". In it, 10 men not involved in the UK court case involving Spacey accused him of behaving inappropriately towards them. But the 65-year-old, whose stellar career was derailed by the earlier claims, denied any wrongdoing. In February, lawyers for former actor Ruari Cannon told AFP that he was taking a case to Britain's High Court against Spacey and London's Old Vic Theatre, where the actor was artistic director between 2003 and 2015. In the documentary, Cannon accused Spacey of having touched him inappropriately in London when he was 21 years old and the American star was 53. #MeToo policy Cannes -- once the hunting ground of disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein whose arrest sparked the #MeToo movement -- has been dogged for years by claims that it was too soft on celebrity abusers. This year's festival opened just as French screen legend Gerard Depardieu was handed an 18-month suspended sentence for sexually assaulting two women on a film set in 2021. With jury president, French actor Juliette Binoche, speaking out about harassment she experienced on set, Cannes has been swift to implement its new rules. French actor Theo Navarro-Mussy -- who denies rape allegations made by three women against him -- was barred last week from the premiere of "Dossier 137", one of the films in the running for the Palme d'Or top prize. The festival justified its decision by saying an appeal was under way. And on Thursday, a vice president of the avant garde parallel film section at Cannes, ACID, was suspended after being publicly accused of sexual violence during an event.
