Keningau emerge champs for fourth year running

KENINGAU: The District Schools Sports Council (MSSD) Keningau Under-12 rugby team have extended their winning streak to four years, securing the State championship once again and cementing their status as a primary school rugby powerhouse. The victory came at the Sabah MSS Under-12 Rugby Championship 2025, held over three days at SK Kampung Biah, where 16 teams from across the State competed. Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin, who officiated the event, said MSSD Keningau's achievement should inspire other schools and help expand opportunities for pupils to excel in the sport at State and national levels. He also praised the participation of teams from Pensiangan, Kudat, Sipitang, Beluran, Lahad Datu, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Tawau, Papar, Beaufort, Tenom, Tuaran, Ranau, Penampang and Kota Belud, noting the strong sporting spirit among young players. 'Close cooperation from all parties will ensure such championships can be implemented more effectively and have a significant impact on grassroots rugby development in the State,' he said. The MSSD Keningau contingent, led by Keningau District Education Officer Johari @ Jaibet Sabin, Deputy Contingent Leader Patrick Gobilik, Contingent Coordinator Felicia Justine, Chief Team Manager Usrah Abdul Wahid, Deputy Manager Marcellus Kondu, Assistant Contingent Leader Zarina Zainon, Welfare Manager Jaurin Madasin, Team Manager Rozy Yanty C Madis, Document Manager Yvette Jane, and coaches Ruddy Daupin, Amodd Deal Tingadon, Muhammad Asrizah Asari, Joe Samat and Ronney Yusman, were acknowledged for their dedication in training and guiding the pupils to consistent victory. Among the standouts was Dexter Jayas from SK Kampung Biah, who was named Best Forward for his outstanding agility and strength, helping the team maintain their unbeaten run.
