Keningau emerge champs for fourth year running

KENINGAU: The District Schools Sports Council (MSSD) Keningau Under-12 rugby team have extended their winning streak to four years, securing the State championship once again and cementing their status as a primary school rugby powerhouse. The victory came at the Sabah MSS Under-12 Rugby Championship 2025, held over three days at SK Kampung Biah, where 16 teams from across the State competed. Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin, who officiated the event, said MSSD Keningau's achievement should inspire other schools and help expand opportunities for pupils to excel in the sport at State and national levels. He also praised the participation of teams from Pensiangan, Kudat, Sipitang, Beluran, Lahad Datu, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Tawau, Papar, Beaufort, Tenom, Tuaran, Ranau, Penampang and Kota Belud, noting the strong sporting spirit among young players. 'Close cooperation from all parties will ensure such championships can be implemented more effectively and have a significant impact on grassroots rugby development in the State,' he said. The MSSD Keningau contingent, led by Keningau District Education Officer Johari @ Jaibet Sabin, Deputy Contingent Leader Patrick Gobilik, Contingent Coordinator Felicia Justine, Chief Team Manager Usrah Abdul Wahid, Deputy Manager Marcellus Kondu, Assistant Contingent Leader Zarina Zainon, Welfare Manager Jaurin Madasin, Team Manager Rozy Yanty C Madis, Document Manager Yvette Jane, and coaches Ruddy Daupin, Amodd Deal Tingadon, Muhammad Asrizah Asari, Joe Samat and Ronney Yusman, were acknowledged for their dedication in training and guiding the pupils to consistent victory. Among the standouts was Dexter Jayas from SK Kampung Biah, who was named Best Forward for his outstanding agility and strength, helping the team maintain their unbeaten run. RW Sabah the sole State representative

Kota Kinabalu: RW Sabah are the only State representative in the Under-12 category at the Maxim Elite Johor 2025 football tournament which started on Friday at Marlborough College Malaysia in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. The 15-member team left for Johor on Wednesday accompanied by coaches Rosdin Wasli, Muhammad Arshad Masulin, Rosyamrin Wasli and Suan Amsin. Draw was fair result

I wish Sabah FC all the best in this away game and I am confident that we should be able to register our first victory of the new season. SABAH FC's first game in the new Super League season ended with a 1-1 draw at the Kuala Lumpur City FC at the KLFA Stadium on Wednesday. We were actually heading for a defeat until lanky Gabriel Peres became the saviour for the team when he scored in the dying seconds with a well-timed header for the equaliser. I thought Sabah FC had a very good game in the first half and had many chances to score but no one was clinical enough to put the ball into the back of the net. Han Loong athletes dominate poomsae event at Brunei meet

Kota Kinabalu: Han Loong Taekwondo Club ruled supreme in the poomsae event at the 5th Brunei Korean Ambassador Cup Taekwondo Championship concluded on Wednesday at the Pusat Belia in Bandar Seri Bagawan. They captured a total of five golds, four silvers and two bronzes to take the overall title. The gold medal winners were Aleister Xavier Ng Zhen (male individual aged 10-13), mixed doubles 10-13 (Aleister/Daphne Koay Jia Yi), female team 10-13 (Kristy Koay Pei Ying/Elsa Koay Jia Hui/Daphne), mixed doubles 14-17 (Aristotle Kong Villaceran/Alexis Ng Zhi Xuan) and female team 14-17 (Alexia Ng Zhi Xuan/Allyson Ng Zhi Xin/Celestyne Catherine). The silvers were delivered by Constantine Kong Villaceran (male individual 10-13), mixed doubles 10-13 (Constantine/Kristy Koay), Celestyne Catherine Ronald (female individual 14-17) and male team 14-17 (Aristotle/Mohd Wazif Ihsan/Rae Rendheal Renddie), while the bronze medals came from Allyson Ng (female individual 14-17) and Aristotle (male individual 14-17). The club also finished as runners-up in the kyorugi event with seven golds, one silver and two bronzes. The gold medallists were Kyle Kennedy Felix (male lightweight 9-11), Rae Renzo Renddie (male heavyweight 9-11), Ivory Koay Xiu Xin (female middleweight 9-11), Rae Rendheal Renddie (male heavyweight 12-14), Allyson (female lightweight 12-14), Mohd Wazif (male flyweight 15-17) and Aristotle (male lightweight 15-17). Kristal Koay (featherweight girls 12-14) was the only silver medal winner, while the bronze medals were won by Constantine (welterweight boys 15-17) and Jeshaiah Jade Gordon (heavyweight boys 15-17). The three-day tournament was attended by some 300 athletes from the host country and Malaysia. Club president Roger Chaw was proud of the 16-member team led by coaches Master Ervin Ambu and Emmanuel Siaw. 'Well done to all the team members to win a total of 21 medals.
