Sandiganbayan finds Ruffy Biazon guilty of graft

The Sandiganbayan has found Muntinlupa mayor and former lawmaker Ruffy Biazon guilty of graft in connection with the P10 billion pork barrel scam. As a result, the anti-graft court sentenced Biazon to six to 10 years in jail. Sandiganbayan, however, cleared Biazon of malversation raps in the same pork barrel case. Biazon, meanwhile, has said that he will appeal the ruling. 'Public service should not be derailed by noise or distraction. My commitment to Muntinlupeños stands firm—a city led with compassion, guided by vision, and focused on real solutions," Biazon said in a statement. Biazon's camp also said that the Sandiganbayan verdict does not impact his current position as mayor. "The governance will continue with the same integrity and resolve that has marked his leadership since day one. This is not the end—it's the beginning of a renewed push for deeper, more inclusive public service,' Biazon's camp said. —VAL, GMA Integrated News

Muntinlupa begins free medicine delivery for senior citizens

The Muntinlupa City has launched a free medicine delivery service for senior citizens 80 years old and above and bedridden residents 60 years old and above. In a statement on Thursday, the local government unit said the Responsive Integrated Delivery of Essential Medicines (RIDE Med) aims to ease the burden of senior citizens and their families from getting the needed medicines. Under the program, eligible senior citizens will have free monthly deliveries of prescribed maintenance medicines for medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol. A RIDE Med rider will be accompanied by a barangay health worker to ensure proper coordination and follow-up. A senior citizen must be a resident of Muntinlupa City. Their family members can register them at their respective barangay health center or through its hotline service. For inquiries and registration assistance, residents may contact 0908-208-1044, 0908-725-4288, or 851-3485. Meanwhile, senior citizens may still receive free maintenance medicine at their local health centers through the 'Love ko si Lolo, Love ko si Lola' program, even if they are not bedridden or over 80 years old. 'Hindi natin pwedeng hayaan na ang ating mga lolo at lola, lalo na 'yung mga hindi na makalakad, ay mapag-iwanan. Serbisyo na ang lalapit sa kanila. Sa RIDE Med, ihahatid na natin ang gamot diretso sa bahay ng senior citizen,' Mayor Ruffy Biazon said. (We cannot allow our grandparents, especially those who can no longer walk, to be left behind. Through the RIDE Med, medicines of senior citizens will be delivered straight to their homes.) —Mariel Celine Serquiña/AOL, GMA Integrated News
