Russian Investigative Committee: Two Explosions Behind Bridge Collapses in Kursk and Bryansk Regions - Jordan News
Russian Investigative Committee: Two Explosions Behind Bridge Collapses in Kursk and Bryansk Regions The Russian Investigative Committee confirmed on Sunday that explosions caused the collapse of two bridges in the Bryansk and Kursk regions, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries. اضافة اعلان Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko told Sputnik that the first incident occurred at 10:50 PM on May 31, 2025, on the Vygonichi–Belshino railway section in Bryansk. A road bridge structure collapsed due to an explosion, and its debris fell onto a passing passenger train, leading to fatalities and injuries. In the second incident, at around 3:00 AM on June 1, a railway bridge in the Zheleznogorsk area of Kursk was blown up. The explosion caused a train to derail and fall onto a nearby highway, injuring the engineer and two of his assistants. Petrenko stated that investigators are currently on-site conducting urgent actions to establish the full circumstances of the attacks. Earlier in the day, Russian authorities confirmed that seven people were killed and dozens injured as a result of the twin bridge collapses in regions bordering Ukraine. According to Interfax, Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz said the Bryansk bridge was deliberately bombed while a Klimovo–Moscow passenger train with 388 passengers was passing beneath it. The incidents mark a significant escalation in sabotage activities inside Russian territory amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Will Ukraine's 'massive attack' on Russian air assets cast a shadow over Istanbul talks?
A day before Russian and Ukrainian delegations are scheduled to meet in Istanbul for the second round of talks on ending their conflict, Ukraine on Sunday claimed a massive strike on Russian strategic aviation assets in Siberia, Murmansk in the north and other places. While Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier on Sunday that a delegation will be going to Turkey with the main aim of reaching a "complete and unconditional ceasefire", and Russian media also reported that a Russian delegation has departed for the talks in Turkey, how this dramatic escalation will play out on the course of negotiations remains to be seen. The reported attacks on the airfields came as two bridge collapses led to the derailment of trains in the Russian regions of Bryansk and Kursk, leaving at least seven people dead and multiple others wounded. The Russian Investigative Committee said that both incidents were deliberate acts of sabotage and has blamed Ukraine. The string of incidents comes hours before the talks, and Russian authorities are yet to react to the attack on the airfields, which the Ukrainian secret service, SBU, has proudly flaunted. While Ukrainian strategic experts and journalists also exulted in the destruction of Russian aircraft, the Russian military was yet to react. Though authorities in Irkutsk and Murmansk did confirm drone attacks, they did not give many details. The latest attacks come amid Ukraine's significantly rising drone strikes into Russia in recent weeks, amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the conflict and Russia launching several retaliatory strikes targeting Ukraine's defence industry facilities, as well as other military targets. With the BBC citing SBU sources as saying the attack on Russian airfields took over a year to organise and was personally overseen by Zelensky, Russia is likely to harden its position. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has suggested that the growing Ukrainian attacks are a bid by Kiev to derail the peace process. With Ukraine reportedly upping the ante by targeting Russia's strategic aircraft fleet, a part of its nuclear triad, Moscow is certain not to sit quietly. Apart from the military retaliation, its diplomatic response remains to be seen.

Russia investigates bridge explosions in Bryansk and Kursk as terrorist attacks
Two bridges in Russia's Bryansk and Kursk oblasts collapsed overnight on 31 May due to explosions, with investigations underway into what Russia's Investigative Committee has called terrorist attacks. Source: Meduza, citing the Russian Investigative Committee Quote: "These events are classified as acts of terrorism," the committee stated. Unverified reports suggest an improvised explosive device may have been placed within the Kursk bridge's structure. The Kursk incident occurred around 02:21 Moscow time (00:21 BST), derailing the locomotive of a freight train and three wagons, with no fatalities reported due to the train's low speed. Hours later, a railway bridge collapsed in Russia's Kursk Oblast, derailing a freight train. Support Ukrainska Pravda on Patreon!

Passenger and freight train crash in western Russia, several dead
The first bridge, in the Bryansk region on the border with Ukraine, collapsed on top of a passenger train from Klimov to Moscow on Saturday, causing the casualties. Hours later, officials said a second train was derailed when the bridge beneath it collapsed in the nearby Kursk region, which also borders Ukraine. In that collapse, a freight train was thrown off its rails onto the road below as an explosion collapsed the bridge, local acting Governor Alexander Khinshtein said on Sunday. The crash sparked a fire, but there were no casualties, he said. Russia's Investigative Committee, the country's top criminal investigation agency, said in a statement that explosions had caused the two bridges to collapse, but did not give further details. In the past, some officials have accused pro-Ukrainian saboteurs of attacking Russia's railway infrastructure. The details surrounding such incidents, however, are limited and cannot be independently verified. In a statement Sunday, Ukraine's military intelligence, known by the Ukrainian abbreviation GUR, said a Russian military freight train carrying food and fuel had been blown up on its way to Crimea. It did not claim the attack was carried out by GUR or mention the bridge collapses. The statement said Moscow's key 'artery with the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia region and Crimea has been destroyed'. Russian forces have been pushing into the region of Zaporizhzhia in eastern Ukraine since Moscow's invasion in February 2022. They took Crimea and annexed it in 2014.

Schoolgirl, 13, killed after javelin went through her eye in PE lesson pictured
A schoolgirl who died when a classmate threw a javelin towards her has been pictured for the first time. 13-year-old Anastasia Ryzhenko was struck in the eye with a javelin, sending her into a coma from which she never woke up. During a gym class, coach Vladimir Miroshnichenko had paired Anastasia with 16-year-old Timur in Prokhladny, Russia. The coach had 'turned away' when the javelin was thrown, but Timur warned Anastasia when it was too late. Anastasia's mum, Elena, said: 'At that very moment, he threw it, then he called out to her. She raised her head, and the spear hit her in the eye.' Her eye socket was stabbed with the javelin, and her jaw also broke, sparking internal bleeding into her lungs, her mum said. An investigation has been launched by the Russian Investigative Committee. Tributes have been shared online for young Anastasia, who would have celebrated her 14th birthday today. Mum Elena shared gratitude for the first responders and doctors who tried to save Anastasia. More Trending But she added: 'The boy's mother does not admit her son's guilt at all,' said Elena. During all this time, she never came. And the coach didn't come, only on the day of the funeral. 'As a mother, I would have crawled on my knees pleading: 'Forgive me, excuse me, maybe I can help, let me at least take you there?' The Russian Investigative Committee said in a statement: 'The investigation has studied all the circumstances of the incident, interrogated eyewitnesses, employees of the sports school and the relevant ministry, seized documentation regulating the procedure for conducting field training sessions and ensuring safety, and other measures are being taken to collect evidence.
