Countdown to Kickoff: Ryan Wingo
Ryan Wingo steps into the WR1 role in Austin this season with Matthew Golden moving on. After a strong freshman season, can he continue to develop into a true star for the Longhorns? We are four weeks out from Longhorn football getting underway and today we are going to talk about the presumed WR1, Ryan Wingo. Wingo was a top receiver prospect in the 2024 class and Texas was able to win the commitment late in the process over Missouri. He burst onto the scene immediately in 2024, with a number of explosive plays in his freshman year, that set the bar for an explosive sophomore season. 2024 Stats: 29 catches, 472 yards(16.3 yards/catch), 2 TDs The freshman WR group around the country last year was special. Jeremiah Smith led the way at Ohio State, but Ryan Williams(Alabama), Bryant Wesco(Clemson) and more stole the show as well. That left Wingo underdiscussed compared to his peers a year ago, largely because of the options around him. Matthew Golden, Isaiah Bond and Gunnar Helm took the lion's share of the targets a year ago, but when Wingo got the ball in his hands, the ability was immediately clear. He walks into the 2025 season without Golden or Bond in the room and as the second most experienced WR on the team, behind DeAndre Moore Jr. He is widely expected to be the go-to guy for Arch Manning early and often this year. The two scores Wingo had a year ago came in games Arch Manning was under center, against UTSA and ULM. The rapport between the two is very clear in a short period of time. This question that many people around the sport have about Texas this year is the replacement of those pass catchers. Ryan Wingo could make a lot of that a non-issue if he elevates his game to the level of Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams in 2025. The talent level is beyond question, with remarkable speed with the ball in his hands, great 50/50 ball ability and plus route running. Expecting a big year out of sophomore WR Ryan Wingo in rising crossers and deep shots were a strength a year ago and certainly fit the strengths of Arch Manning at QB. Wingo is one of the most important players for the Longhorns in 2025. The pass game will need a true WR1 throughout the season to reach its potential. I believe, along with a number of others, that Ryan Wingo can become that and more. The mix of the opportunity with many guys moving on, Arch Manning and his confidence together and his unique ability will give way for a huge year for Wingo. Texas has major questions when it comes to the pass catchers on this team, with tons of new names taking over big roles. Ryan Wingo will be the one among that group that is expected to be the gamechanger. It seems Sarkisian and co. have all the confidence in the world he can do that, with only one portal addition at the WR position. Which brings us to tomorrow's subject for Countdown to Kickoff: the Stanford transfer Emmett Mosley V. We will be back tomorrow to talk about what the former Cardinal can bring to the Texas offense. Ryan Wingo Dishes On Viral Moment With Arch Manning
Ryan Wingo Dishes On Viral Moment With Arch Manning originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Ryan Wingo is looked at as a strong breakout star candidate for next year. He teams up with one of the most hyped quarterbacks in college football history, Arch Manning. Earlier this off-season, the two went viral as Manning visited the Texas Longhorns WR's hometown for a camp. Appearing on the '3rd and Longhorns' show, Wingo talked about the camp and Manning's viral moment from the 'bloc party' afterwards. Manning has shown incredible leadership, as stated by Longhorns HC Steve Sarkisian. The two seasons he's spent as a backup have shaped him for the upcoming season, and his off-field presence with his teammates has showcased the same. The Longhorns WR spoke on Manning's visit, saying, "It was a little block party, took some pictures. It obviously got out there — went a little viral. It was a good vibe though, my pop's was cooking." Manning wasn't the only Longhorns teammate there—linebacker Colin Simmons, and wide receivers DeAndre Moore Jr. and Aaron Butler also made it to the camp in St. Louis. Texas Longhorns are favored by many to win it all with their new quarterback. But with such a small sample size, Manning's report card won't actually be out until the end of the year. However, that has not stopped media members from adding more fuel to the hype train. Colin Cowherd on Thursday joined the dots after a report suggested Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam has "unmatched thirst" for drafting Manning. The FOX Sports broadcaster said, "This is the worst-kept secret in the south. Haslam, Jimmy, owner of the Browns, huge SEC, Tennessee booster, leans heavily on the Manning family." He explained that the billionaire owner had been close to the Manning family for a long time, along with being close to Nick Saban. Saban, the Mannings, and Haslam could all be involved in the Browns' resurgence, according to Cowherd. Whether this ends up happening or not, it is definitely noteworthy that the Texas Longhorns have such a quarterback on their roster right now. Steve Sarkisian and his staff will surely work their hardest to extract the best out of him. The Longhorns kick off their season against the Ohio State Buckeyes on 30 story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 23, 2025, where it first appeared.

Steve Sarkisian Discusses Why He Feels 'Great' About Texas' WR Room
Steve Sarkisian Discusses Why He Feels 'Great' About Texas' WR Room originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Longhorns will field several new faces in key roles this season. A few of those will make up Texas' wide receiver room after the departures of Matthew Golden, Isaiah Bond, and Silas Bolden to the 2025 NFL Draft this offseason. Two true freshmen and one transfer could now be in line to fill those roles. Advertisement Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian joined the Always College Football podcast this week with Greg McElroy and he sounds extremely confident in the unit heading into the 2025 season. "I feel great about that room. I don't feel good about it. I feel great about that room. Probably better than most people do on the outside," Sarkisian said. Sarkisian specifically noted his confidence in wide receivers Ryan Wingo, DeAndre Moore, and transfer Emmett Mosley. Outside of those crucial players, the Longhorns have solid depth with true freshmen Kaliq Lockett and Jaime Ffrench, and redshirt freshmen Parker Livingstone and Aaron Butler. Advertisement "Ryan Wingo's a budding star," Sarkisian said. "He's big, he's physical, he's fast." Wingo is in line to take over as the No. 1 wide receiver for first-year starting quarterback Arch Manning. However, Sarkisian is known to spread the ball around and several of these players will have to make clutch plays in big-time moments. Texas will kick off the season with a monster matchup against Ohio State in Columbus on Aug. 30. Arch Manning Names Five-Star Freshman That Has Looked 'Good'
Arch Manning Names Five-Star Freshman That Has Looked 'Good' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Texas quarterback Arch Manning has no shortage of playmakers at his disposal this season. Manning is entering his first year as the full-time starter for the Longhorns and will need to lean on several players to take the pressure off of him. Texas has several returning playmakers like wide receivers Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore, but there's a couple true freshman who could make an impact as well. Advertisement Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff brought in the No. 1 overall recruiting class for the 2025 cycle. The group consists of two blue-chip receivers in Kaliq Lockett and Jaime Ffrench. When Manning spoke with the media at the Manning Passing Academy over the weekend, he specifically mentioned Lockett as a player who has looked good over the summer. "Kaliq's looking good this summer," Manning said. "We're fired up. We've got a young but talented group." Lockett and Ffrench will likely work their way into the rotation as the season progresses. Last year, Sarkisian used true freshman Ryan Wingo in a variety of ways. Advertisement Although Texas has several inexperienced players at key positions this season, the Longhorns will open the 2025 college football season ranked one of the top three teams in the nation. Anthony Hill Jr., Colin Simmons, and Michael Taaffe are key playmakers on the defensive side who will lead one of the top units in the nation.
