Telangana: Plea seeking land for religious structure dismissed

HYDERABAD: The Telangana high court has dismissed a petition filed by a trust seeking land for construction of a religious structure at Yellareddypet in Karimnagar district. A trust, which proposed to construct the structure on the Karimnagar-Kamareddy highway, approached the HC after its request to allot land was rejected by authorities. Authorities informed the court that they need land for construction of govt offices and there was no land available to alienate or allot to the trust. Following the submissions before the court, Justice NV Shravan Kumar dismissed the petition recently. The trust, operating from Yellareddypet, in its petition claimed that devotees planned to construct a religious structure to spread their ideology and also to undertake social welfare activities. Ryots were not coming forward to sell their land parcels, he added. He further argued that several industries have come up in Yellareddypet as per govt directions and that the govt itself was in need of land for the construction of buildings for a police station and quarters, IKP, offices of excise, Anganwadi centres, etc. While dismissing the petition, the judge also made it clear that if the trust finds any suitable land for the purpose of constructing the said religious structure, the order does not preclude them from making a fresh representation before the concerned authorities.
