Telangana: Plea seeking land for religious structure dismissed
A trust, which proposed to construct the structure on the Karimnagar-Kamareddy highway, approached the HC after its request to allot land was rejected by authorities.
Authorities informed the court that they need land for construction of govt offices and there was no land available to alienate or allot to the trust. Following the submissions before the court, Justice NV Shravan Kumar dismissed the petition recently. The trust, operating from Yellareddypet, in its petition claimed that devotees planned to construct a religious structure to spread their ideology and also to undertake social welfare activities.

They initially acquired private land, but as the land was found to be in litigation, they could not proceed with the construction and approached the local authorities seeking to allot land and assured to pay for it as per the present market value.
The assistant govt pleader for revenue argued that the trust claimed there was govt land available but did not mention whether the said land was govt or patta land, assigned or not, and did not mention the details of survey numbers.

The govt pleader also submitted that since Yellareddypet is mandal headquarters, it is developed and the market value of the land situated by the roadside is also higher. Ryots were not coming forward to sell their land parcels, he added.
He further argued that several industries have come up in Yellareddypet as per govt directions and that the govt itself was in need of land for the construction of buildings for a police station and quarters, IKP, offices of excise, Anganwadi centres, etc. While dismissing the petition, the judge also made it clear that if the trust finds any suitable land for the purpose of constructing the said religious structure, the order does not preclude them from making a fresh representation before the concerned authorities.

Blue tag for biogas, waste plants to ease pollution norm compliance
Gurgaon: In a significant regulatory shift, there is an addition of the "blue" category to the existing list of industries — red, orange, green and white. Haryana has adopted a new industrial classification framework introduced by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), adding the fifth category. Under CPCB's new system, certain industries are now classified as essential environmental services and moved to the blue category, which is more lenient. This new category is specifically for essential environmental services (EES) such as waste-to-energy plants, landfill maintenance, biomining operations and some compressed biogas units, utilities considered crucial for managing domestic and municipal waste. You Can Also Check: Gurgaon AQI | Weather in Gurgaon | Bank Holidays in Gurgaon | Public Holidays in Gurgaon The rationale behind this move is to distinguish environmental clean-up and waste-handling operations from conventional industries that generate pollution. An HSPCB official said, "These units are essential for managing growing urban waste, landfill overflow and sustainable energy production. Their inclusion in a separate category allows for easier regulatory handling without diluting scrutiny." Less paperwork As per the guidelines, these services are now eligible for an extended two-year consent-to-operate validity under the Water and Air Acts, based on their Pollution Index. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This is what he found in Paris after cleaning his canal, and believe me, you'll be surprised Daily Sport X Undo That means fewer renewals, less paperwork and reduced compliance burden. Earlier, waste-to-energy plants and certain biogas units were in stricter pollution categories (like orange or red). Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) chairman Vineet Garg issued orders on Aug 1 to align with this classification and begin granting the extended clearances. These services, though industrial in structure, are central to reducing pollution loads from other sources and preventing environmental degradation from domestic waste. CPCB said in a letter to all states, "The new category of the EES will be termed 'blue category sector', and as an incentive for the essential services, an additional two years validity for consent to operate will be provided." CPCB first wrote to all State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) in Feb, directing adoption of the new classification. A follow-up letter in March expanded the list to include select compressed biogas units. Haryana is among the early adopters, formalising the update ahead of several others. Until now, such facilities were classified under conventional pollution-risk categories, limiting their operational leeway despite their public utility role. By carving out a distinct category, the regulator has recognised that some industrial units actively mitigate, rather than create, environmental harm. No compromise Officials say the move aims to fast-track operations of such utility units without compromising environmental safeguards. The move could streamline approvals for key public health and sanitation infrastructure and reduce bureaucratic delays. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Amid property tax row, GMC extends 20% cut till September
Ghaziabad: In a bid to quell the ongoing dispute over property tax rates, Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) has decided to extend the rebate period by two months. So, residents who make their payments till Sept 30 will get a 20% rebate on their tax, a significant extension from the original deadline of July 31. Sanjeev Sinha, the chief tax assessment officer at GMC, said, "With a view to include maximum consumers under the tax bracket, the corporation is offering a time-bound rebate on property tax. Since the start of the fiscal year — from April 1 — a 20% rebate was offered till July 31. However, we have extended this by two more months. Consumers can now avail themselves of a 20% rebate on property tax till Sept 30." Sinha elaborated on the future rebate structure too. "After Sept, the rebate will be slashed by 10%, which the consumers can avail themselves of for another two months — Oct and Nov. For Dec and Jan next year, the rebate will be 5%. After that, no discount will be offered. A consumer paying property tax after March 2026 will be levied with a fine. It is advisable that residents make good use of the offer because it is beneficial from the consumer's as well as GMC's point of view. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Malaysia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search Ads Undo It will boost the corporation's coffers." The state govt has set a target of Rs 600 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26. GMC hopes to collect at least 80% of this target. Despite the extension, confusion prevailed among residents regarding the tax rates. While officials asserted that property tax was being charged at rates before April 1, some residents claimed having received notices based on a new, higher tax slab. IN Jha, a resident of Sidharth Vihar, voiced his concerns. "We thought the GMC board repealed the hiked property tax proposal on June 30. But we are still receiving notices based on the new tax slab, which is at least four times higher than previous tax rates. There is confusion. So far, we have not got a satisfactory reply." Previously, property tax rates ranged from Rs 0.32/sqft for properties on roads less than 12 metres wide to Rs 2.41/sqft for wider roads. Revised rates now range from Rs 0.75/sqft to Rs 4/sqft. GMC calculates tax based on annual rental value (ARV) of a property. GMC's decision to hike property tax has led to protest among councillors. The GMC board recently approved a decision to repeal the hike order, and sent it to the state govt for a final call. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
