First ‘Make in India' 1-MW green hydrogen plant commissioned in Gujarat

Rajkot: Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) on Thursday commissioned the country's first 'Make in India' one megawatt (MW) green hydrogen plant, at Kandla. This is the first phase of a planned 10MW facility and is the first such development at an Indian port. Union shipping minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the plant, calling it a "new benchmark" in the execution of green hydrogen projects. "DPA has demonstrated a shining example of speed, scale and skill," he said. The plant was set up in four months and is fully indigenous. The electrolyzer used to produce the hydrogen is made in India, and the entire project was led by Indian engineers. The green hydrogen generated will initially power 11 buses and street lighting within the port. Over time, DPA aims to use it to fuel all the resources of the port. DPA chairman S K Singh told TOI, "Another 5MW will be added by the end of this fiscal year, with the full 10MW facility expected to be operational by the middle of the next fiscal year." "DPA becomes the first port in India to operationalize a Make-In-India green hydrogen facility of this scale, capable of producing approximately 140 metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually. This breakthrough marks a pivotal step in maritime decarbonization , enhancing India's global leadership in sustainable port operations," DPA said in a statement. Green hydrogen has many applications such as fuel for power plants, vehicles, tugs and vessels. The foundation stone for the plant was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 26 during his visit to Bhuj.

The Delhi Traffic Police has relaunched the Traffic Prahari app, a platform that allows citizens to report traffic rule breakers and receive cash rewards for valid reports. This initiative aims to increase road safety by involving the public directly in monitoring and enforcing traffic laws. Here's how to report traffic violations in Delhi via the Traffic Prahari app and win up to Rs. 50,000 every month.(HT Photo) Since its relaunch on September 1, 2024, the Traffic Prahari app has seen active participation from people across the city. Many users have formed groups on social media platforms like WhatsApp to coordinate their efforts, dividing the city into zones to cover more ground. Public Can Issue Challans And Earn Rs 50,000 A Month. Will This 'Snitching' Work?

Last Updated: Citizens can now click images of traffic violators and submit them to 'Prahari' app, launched by Delhi Traffic Police, and earn as much as Rs 50,000 cash prize monthly. Annoyed by the reckless drivers on the road? You can now report dangerous motorists to the cops. Moreover, you will be rewarded for being a responsible citizen by helping to keep road miscreants in check. In a welcome initiative, the Delhi Traffic Police have launched a movement that will assist them in enforcing traffic rules with the assistance of the local public. In short, you can don the hat of a traffic cop and issue challans to fellow citizens who break laws right in front of your eyes. While the Delhi Traffic Police's innovative campaign has sparked significant public interest, it has also raised an important question: will 'snitching" on each other be effective? 'I think this is necessary evil," a user, replying to a viral post on Reddit's r/CarsIndia, wrote. Titled 'Do you think this will work? Have you tried it?" several folks have responded with their own takes, experiences, and surfaced scenarios where the initiative may work or falter. 'There are 100 ways this can be misused. 2-wheelers can be moved from their parking space to no parking area or road and pics can be taken. Money as an incentive can make people do a lot of things to misuse it. I saw a lot of people reporting violations even without hoping for incentive. That's how it should be, (sic)" another added. Drastic measures had to be taken, and a new system was not devoid of flaws, wrote a third in support of the crowdsourced challan drive. 'Every system has its own flaws. Something is better than nothing. Driving in India is becoming a nightmare. So drastic measures have to be taken." 'Out of all terrible ideas, they chose this. In a resource scarce country where everyone is toiling day and night and working informal jobs to make ends meet. This type of scheme is like squid games nothing else," a netizen wondered if the drive would lead to chaos. 'Im at chandni chowk and just started using this and reported two incident already, (sic)" a user claimed that they were active on the app and had reported a couple of incidents. 'Idiots will report without knowing law, they will report based on dislikes/likes, insecurities. This has so much potential to go wrong especially with our crowd (sic)." 'Is Holding people accountable now called snitching? (sic)" quipped a Reddit user. Can It Be Misused? The photos submitted to the Delhi Traffic Police will be verified and processed appropriately. Recognising that the rule could be misused for personal disputes, the authorities will verify the legitimacy of all submissions. When the process is complete, the offending vehicle's owner will be issued a challan, while the contributor will be notified. Speaking to Local18 last month, DCP Traffic SK Singh revealed that 1400-1500 challans were being submitted daily by proactive public. What Are The Rewards? There are four tiers to this reward system. An individual can earn a maximum cash prize of Rs 50,000 through this initiative. The contributor in fourth place will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000. 1st Place – Rs 50,000 2nd Place – Rs 25,000 3rd Place – Rs 15,000 4th Place – Rs 10,000 Prahari Coined Prahari, which translates to 'guard" or 'watchman", the app can be downloaded from the app store, and users can register themselves on it using their mobile number and OTP to start submitting challans to the authorities.
