Vernon Kay seeks diagnosis with Tess Daly after 'feeling terrible' on air

More info Vernon Kay has confessed to feeling "terrible", suspecting that he's been "diagnosed by the nation" with a potential health issue. During his stint on BBC Radio 2, Vernon revealed that he was feeling a "bit ropey" yesterday. This led the 51-year-old presenter to admit that he suffers from an allergy to seafood. This means that Vernon is unable to consume prawns or cockles - a variety of small edible shellfish. He claims to have discovered this allergy after undergoing a test. However, Vernon suspects he might need another test, as listeners have expressed concerns about his health. He shared this revelation after playing a jingle promoting the BBC iPlayer coverage of Radio 1's Big Weekend. It's estimated that around 100,000 people flocked to Liverpool's Sefton Park for the three-day festival last weekend. The line-up included performances from Tom Grennan, Mumford and Sons, Biffy Clyro, and Wet Leg, reports the Manchester Evening News. (Image:) Vernon said: "Radio 1, how are you feeling? A bit ropey, no, honestly, terrible, I'm sure I've eaten a prawn or a cockle. I'm allergic to cockles. When asked if it has been a "big problem", Vernon replied: "It's not like I stumble upon a pot of cockles on a regular basis, but you know when you do one of them tests where they check your blood. "I did it ages ago but I'm going to do another one because I talk about it on the radio and a lot of people think I might be lactose intolerant. Honestly, I've been diagnosed by the nation without having a face-to-face consultation. "Tess Daly from Strictly Come Dancing is going to do one and I'm going to do one as well. The last one I did, yeah, cockles." (Image: Getty Images) When asked if he had ever had a cockle, Vernon replied: "No. It's like dipping your foot in a pool of lava. 'Oh, I know that's dangerous, why don't I try it?' "Winkles were very popular on the beach at Blackpool and I think my mum and dad used to like them with a lot of vinegar, not for me. In the polystyrene cups you used to get winkles and cockles and clams and all that kind of stuff." Vernon found love with Tess Daly as they both seized the spotlight on competing broadcasters—Vernon on Channel 4 with T4 and Tess on ITV's SMTV Live. Their romance flourished, leading to their wedding on 12 September 2003 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Horwich, just outside Bolton. The power couple now enjoy family life in Buckinghamshire alongside their daughters Phoebe, 20, and Amber, 15. Following Ken Bruce's departure in 2023, Vernon Kay took over the mid-morning slot on Radio 2, having previously filled in for presenters like Rylan Clarke and Zoe Ball.

Nostalgic household items every Scottish '90s kid will remember fondly

Looking back at the toys and tech we once used shows just how much has changed since the 90s. If you grew up in Scotland during the 1990s, chances are you look back on the decade with a warm dose of nostalgia. It was a time of Pokémon cards, Tamagotchis, and the Spice Girls. Gameboys ruled playgrounds, Saturday mornings were spent watching SMTV Live, and most of us still remember the screech of a dial-up modem. While it may feel like just yesterday, the reality is that three decades have passed, and much has changed. One surefire way to feel the passing of time is to look back at the things we once used every day. From toys to tech, '90s kids were surrounded by objects that now seem like museum pieces. We have taken a trip down memory lane to revisit the household items and childhood gadgets that defined Scottish homes in the 1990s. Whether it was the ever-blinking lights of a Furby perched on your shelf or the clunky desktop computer your family gathered around, these relics of the past will take you right back. So dust off your VHS tapes and fire up your Discman, here are just some of the classic '90s Scottish household items and toys you'll definitely remember from your childhood. Vernon Kay says 'I'll give you a clip round the ear' as he issues warning to BBC co-star

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Vernon Kay warned Radio 2 co-star Jeremy Vine he would give him a 'clip round the earhole' after an on-air exchange between the two. During Monday's radio show, Jeremy told Vernon that he was welcoming a professional cuddler Sammi Wood into the BBC studios. Jeremy, 60, explained they were going to attempt to recreate a cuddle on air. It prompted Vernon to say: 'I love cuddling the girls at the end of the day.' A quick-witted Jeremy joked: 'Not in the office?' Vernon shot back: 'Behave yourself. I'll give you a clip round the earhole. 'The girls come home from school and it's a nice warm embrace. It's lovely.' Sympathising with his colleague, Jeremy added: 'I'm the same, I've got two girls as well, I agree with you. And I think maybe fathers 50 years ago didn't do the same.' Vernon shares 20-year-old Phoebe and 14-year-old Amber with wife Tess Daly. The radio presenter met Strictly Come Dancing host Tess when they were working on rival television channels. Vernon was working on Channel 4's T4 at the time while Tess, 56, was presenting on ITV's SMTV Live. Their relationship however blossomed and the pair soon began dating. They tied the knot at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Horwich, Vernon's home town. The family now lives in a sprawling six-bedroom mansion in Buckinghamshire, complete with its own home gym. (Image: tessdaly / Instagram) Vernon, who joined Radio 2 in 2021, regularly shares an insight into their family life on his mid-morning show. The former Family Fortunes host recently revealed he has been 'banned' from doing one thing during their family holidays. It came as the host shared his unique vision for future city centres, imagining a scenario where a park-and-ride system is followed by zipping into the urban area on golf buggies. Vernon argues this approach could greatly diminish "congestion and pollution" and even mused over the idea of extended buggies to cater for bigger groups. It was then Vernon explained that Tess has actually banned him from driving a golf buggy when on holiday. He told listeners: "I don't know. Smaller, more compact. You can get four. If you get one of them big ones, the estate version of a golf buggy, you can get at least eight people on one of them.' He added: 'You know the holiday one? When you go on holiday, they always have an extendable version. It's like two golf buggies together. I'm banned from driving one of those when we go on holiday. No, not officially, but by the family. I'm not allowed to drive." He concluded that driving one makes him feel like seven-time Formula One winner Sir Lewis Hamilton. He joked that it encourages you to hug "close to the kerbs", rounding off his confession with some playful racing car imitations.

Lisa Armstrong makes big purchase using £31m Ant McPartlin divorce payout

Lisa Armstrong has continued to build up her property portfolio in the wake of her divorce from Ant McPartlin, with the make-up artist buying a third home since the split. Lisa Armstrong, the renowned makeup artist, has added another property to her growing portfolio following her divorce from TV star Ant McPartlin. Last year, she reportedly purchased a four-bedroom house near Oxford for over £700,000, adding to her existing properties which include a £2.3million five-bedroom mansion in west London that she retained after her divorce. ‌ In 2020, two years post her split from Ant, Lisa bought a £3.8million house in west London. ‌ It's anticipated that she will carry out extensive renovations on her latest acquisition. While it's unclear if she plans to reside there, she is familiar with the Oxford area having grown up there. Lisa is quickly establishing herself as a shrewd property developer, having fully renovated her 2020 purchase by adding a pool, gym, outhouse and gazebo, reports the Mirror. However, her former marital home, which she had been renting out to a family of six, suffered a fire in September 2023 causing £1million worth of damage. The Mirror reported last year that Lisa was looking to move forward after what our source described as a "topsyturvy few years to say the least." They added: "She is very much focused on the future and is in a really good place after what was a difficult period,". ‌ Lisa and Ant announced their decision to divorce in January 2018, just two months before Ant was involved in a car crash while more than twice over the drink-drive limit. Following the incident, he pleaded guilty to drink-driving and was slapped with a £86,000 fine and a 20-month driving ban. ‌ Post-crash, he checked into rehab and took a hiatus from his TV presenting duties for 10 months. The presenter then tied the knot with his former personal assistant, Anne-Marie Corbett, in 2021 and they welcomed their first child together, a son named Wilder Patrick McPartlin, in May. Meanwhile, Lisa moved on with Sky electrician James Green in 2020, but their relationship unexpectedly ended in August 2023. ‌ A friend of the couple spoke out at the time, stating that the split after three years was amicable and that they intended to remain friends. Ant is best known for working alongside Declan Donnelly as part of Ant and Dec. ‌ They both first saw the limelight in the children's drama - set in Newcastle upon Tyne - Byker Grove. The pair then became TV presenters. They presented SMTV Live, I'm a Me Out of Here!, Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and Britain's Got Talent. They also had a music career as PJ & Duncan, with several UK top 20 singles including Let's Get Ready to Rhumble. They released three albums, four EPs and 15 singles overall. PJ and Duncan were their characters' names in Byker Grove. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today.
