Sonic ‘Tops' Its Summer Menu With 3 Sweet New Drink Offers

Sonic Drive-In's latest summer menu update is like the cherry on top of a sundae. On Tuesday, just about a week after the chain debuted its all-new Cheesy Garlic Pepperoni Bites and confirmed it would be bringing back two of its most "frequently requested" seasonal items (its Watermelon and Lemonberry Slushies), Sonic unveiled another menu innovation: Sweet Topped Lemonades. The drink menu newcomer is said to be available in three flavors, all of which feature a base of "all-natural lemonade" that's topped off with a "layer of velvety cold foam." Related: Sonic's Highly-Anticipated New Slush Is Officially Here-and It Comes With a Big Surprise According to a spokesperson for the brand, Sonic's Sweet Topped Lemonades will be offered in three flavors, at least to start, including Classic, Strawberry and Blueberry Lavender Lemonade. The Classic Sweet Topped Lemonade is described as a "tart all-natural lemonade" that's been dressed up with a "velvety sweet cold foam." Its Strawberry Lemonade variety takes that same lemonade base and adds "real fruit Strawberries" for an even summery version of the new bev. While the Blueberry Lavender version mixes the tart lemonade with a "Blueberry Lavender flavor" for those feeling a little more experimental. Sonic's new twist on its lemonade doesn't just expand its menu but helps students grow; as the company said, "each lemonade purchased helps fund local classrooms through SONIC's Limeades for Learning initiative," which helps support public education programs, schools, classrooms and teachers here in the U.S. Not only that, but the beloved drive-in is also teaming up with First Book, which provides books and other learning resources to children in need, to distribute some "100,000 books to students in need." To really drive home the initiative, Sonic has also partnered with three bestselling authors to help "bring the sips + summer reads combo to life," including Say You'll Remember Me author Abby Jimenez, Sounds Like Love writer Ashley Poston and The Paradise Problem author Christina Lauren. "This partnership isn't just about the ultimate summer sip; it's about fueling a lifelong love ofreading," Stuart Brown, executive director of the Inspire Brands Foundation, said in a statement. "SONIC donates a portion of every drink purchase back to support local schools, each Sweet Topped Lemonade helps get local students the resources they need through the SONIC Foundation's Limeades for Learning® initiative. Together with these celebrated authors, we're making it easier for students across the country to turn the page toward a brighter future." The new Sweet Topped Lemonades are currently available to order in the app, with the official nationwide rollout slated for Monday, June 2. The new Sweet Topped Lemonades are a craveable lineup of drinks that make it more delicious than ever to kick back, open a beach read, and take a sip of something exciting – all while giving back to local schools. The ultimate sidekick for beach bags, book clubs and pool-side page turners, Sweet Topped Lemonades combine tart, all-natural lemonade with velvety smooth cold foam on top for a craveable twist. Available in three delicious flavors, Classic Lemonade, Strawberry Lemonade and Blueberry Lavender Lemonade, these sips are as hard to put down as a summer bestseller. The trio is helping SONIC turn this summer into something more meaningful by ensuring more students have access to the books and resources they need. "Summer has always been synonymous with books in my head – required reading, midnight releases and audiobooks on long road trips. To me, there is nothing more quintessentially summer than a Sweet Topped Classic Lemonade and a steamy read," said Ashley Poston, best-selling author of Sounds Like Love. "Now excuse me while I go kick back in my hammock and sink into a romance to quench my thirst for refreshing meet-cutes and sugar-sweet Happily Ever Afters." Abby Jimenez, best-selling author of Say You'll Remember Me, reflected: "I write stories that make you laugh, cry, and maybe believe in love again – Sweet Topped Lemonades may make you feel that way too. Blueberry Lavender is sweet, a bit unexpected and completely swoon-worthy. Whether you're reading on the beach or just need a little moment of joy in your day, this flavor is the perfect escape." Bestselling author duo Christina Lauren of The Paradise Problem added, "As lifelong book lovers, we'll always jump at the opportunity to foster a love of reading! Some of our best memories are from hot summer days spent getting lost in a book. What better way to spend the summer this year than reading with a Sweet Topped Strawberry Lemonade and supporting public education all at the same time?" As part of the program, SONIC is partnering with First Book – a nonprofit working to remove barriers to a quality education for children in low-income communities – to distribute 100,000 books in the communities SONIC serves. First Book and the SONIC Foundation share a deep commitment to ensuring every child has access to a quality education. The Director Of The "Lilo & Stitch" Live-Action Remake Just Addressed Those Drastic Changes To Pleakley

More than 20 years later, we're getting a Lilo & Stitch live-action remake, but fans have reservations about drastic changes from the original. In March, the live-action trailer revealed Billy Magnussen and Zach Galifianakis as Agent Pleakley and Dr. Jumba Jookiba. In the 2002 animated movie, the alien characters (voiced by Kevin McDonald and David Ogden Stiers) wore human clothes to blend in while on Earth. Most notably, Pleakley dressed in women's clothing with a wig, instantly becoming one of the franchise's fan-favorite looks. In the live-action movie, they appear to use a device that transforms them into humans instead. Sadly, there's not a dress or wig in sight in the trailers. Director Dean Fleischer Camp recently replied to fans who wondered why Pleakley looked different, and fans immediately had a lot to say when they heard his response. Kevin Mazur / Getty Images for Critics Choice Association, Disney In the first video of the two-part TikTok series, Dean reacted to a comment that said, "How dare they ruin Pleakley's disguise like that 😭😭😭" "I have had people message me 'why is Pleakley not wearing a dress' and I just want to say — I tried. I tried." In the TikTok, Dean also showed a concept drawing of Pleakly as the alien in his disguise, and while it looked pretty awesome, we'll never see it on the big screen. Perhaps it was the stare into the camera or the apparent look of defeat when he repeated, "I tried," but fans had a lot to say about the director's response. "That 'I tried' speaks volumes. Your concept of Pleakley in his pretty clothes looks great," one user wrote. One person wrote, "Baby when he said he tried, he means Disney said no. Given the political climate - its not shocking Disney wanted no part. Sad, but I won't blame the director. Ill blame Disney." "Thanks for addressing the Pleakley concerns. At least we know it's not your fault. ♥️," another user replied. Someone said, "poor guy created an original piece of genre art and immediately got swept up by the bureaucratic capitalist machine." "WHAAAAAAAT WHAT WHAT DO YOU MEAAAAANN THEY DIDNT CHOOSE YOUR VERSION OF PLEAKLEY?! THATS THE *ONE* THING ABOUT THE TRAILER THAT MADE ME SO MAD," this person wrote in ALL CAPS, so they meant business. "My comments here to hate on the fact they turned Pleakley into a human," another user wrote. "They should have remained aliens with silly disguises. I fear the CGI costs would have been worth it." This person is still holding out for last-minute changes, writing, "FIX PLEAKLEY. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. THEY FIXED SONIC YOU CAN FIX AUNTIE PLEAKLEY." Finally, someone wrote, "i'm glad to hear you tried but still really disappointed in the decision." It's a real bummer that we won't get to see Pleakly as an alien in a dress with a wig, but the good news is that Stitch's creator and original voice actor, Chris Sanders, is lending his talents to the photorealistic animated Stitch. "One of the first discussions we had was we had to get Chris Sanders back," Dean said in the video. @marceltheshellwshoeson / Alberto E. Rodriguez / Getty Images I'm excited, but after repeatedly watching the trailer, I have one serious question that I feel hasn't been addressed — where's my boy Gantu? Watch the trailer for the Lilo & Stitch below: What do you think about movie's changes? Share your thoughts about the new Lilo & Stitch in the comments.

6 facts about Oʻahu's new SONIC Drive-In coming soon

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Get ready, Kapolei! SONIC Drive-In is making its Oʻahu debut. Known for its retro vibes, roller-skating carhops and thousands of drink combos, the fast-food chain has officially broken ground on its first Oʻahu location. Set to open in early 2026, SONIC Kapolei will bring its curbside service, signature menu and community-focused mission to the corner of Fort Barrette Road and Kapolei Parkway. Here's what was able to find out about the restaurant chain. This isn't your typical drive-thru. At SONIC, you park, order from your car and wait while a carhop, often on roller skates, brings your food right to you. It's a style of service that feels like a throwback, but it's designed for today's busy lives. Think burgers, tots and slushes without ever leaving your seat. SONIC is famous for its Cherry Limeade, Cajun fries and footlong chili cheese coneys, but the menu doesn't stop there. You'll find crispy chicken sandwiches, breakfast burritos and more than 1.5 million drink combinations. And in Hawaiʻi, you'll also get the exclusive 'Only in Hawaiʻi' Teri Burger; it's a local-style twist you won't find anywhere else. On April 25, a local kahuna (Hawaiian priest) led a traditional blessing on the site to honor the land and all those working to build SONIC Kapolei. 'It's our kuleana to respect the ʻāina and the community we're joining,' said Takeo Prather, head of development for SONIC Hawaiʻi. SONIC Kapolei is expected to create more than 100 new jobs that will include cooks, carhops and managers. That's a big boost for the area and a chance for local residents to join a national brand with a strong local focus. Through its Limeades for Learning® program, SONIC donates a portion of every Drink, Slush, Blast and Shake sold to help local schools. Since 2009, the brand has given over $30 million to public education. That mission will continue on Oʻahu. With opening day set for early 2026, SONIC fans have some time to prepare and build up an appetite. Get news on the go with KHON 2GO, KHON's morning podcast, every morning at 8 You can click to learn more about SONIC. Until then, you might want to start thinking about your perfect drink combo.
