Sonic ‘Tops' Its Summer Menu With 3 Sweet New Drink Offers

Miami Herald29-05-2025
Sonic Drive-In's latest summer menu update is like the cherry on top of a sundae.
On Tuesday, just about a week after the chain debuted its all-new Cheesy Garlic Pepperoni Bites and confirmed it would be bringing back two of its most "frequently requested" seasonal items (its Watermelon and Lemonberry Slushies), Sonic unveiled another menu innovation: Sweet Topped Lemonades.
The drink menu newcomer is said to be available in three flavors, all of which feature a base of "all-natural lemonade" that's topped off with a "layer of velvety cold foam."

According to a spokesperson for the brand, Sonic's Sweet Topped Lemonades will be offered in three flavors, at least to start, including Classic, Strawberry and Blueberry Lavender Lemonade.
The Classic Sweet Topped Lemonade is described as a "tart all-natural lemonade" that's been dressed up with a "velvety sweet cold foam." Its Strawberry Lemonade variety takes that same lemonade base and adds "real fruit Strawberries" for an even summery version of the new bev. While the Blueberry Lavender version mixes the tart lemonade with a "Blueberry Lavender flavor" for those feeling a little more experimental.
Sonic's new twist on its lemonade doesn't just expand its menu but helps students grow; as the company said, "each lemonade purchased helps fund local classrooms through SONIC's Limeades for Learning initiative," which helps support public education programs, schools, classrooms and teachers here in the U.S.
Not only that, but the beloved drive-in is also teaming up with First Book, which provides books and other learning resources to children in need, to distribute some "100,000 books to students in need."
To really drive home the initiative, Sonic has also partnered with three bestselling authors to help "bring the sips + summer reads combo to life," including Say You'll Remember Me author Abby Jimenez, Sounds Like Love writer Ashley Poston and The Paradise Problem author Christina Lauren.
"This partnership isn't just about the ultimate summer sip; it's about fueling a lifelong love ofreading," Stuart Brown, executive director of the Inspire Brands Foundation, said in a statement. "SONIC donates a portion of every drink purchase back to support local schools, each Sweet Topped Lemonade helps get local students the resources they need through the SONIC Foundation's Limeades for Learning® initiative. Together with these celebrated authors, we're making it easier for students across the country to turn the page toward a brighter future."
The new Sweet Topped Lemonades are currently available to order in the app, with the official nationwide rollout slated for Monday, June 2.

Popular AEW Star Suffers Injury In Bizarre Incident

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. AEW Trios Champion Samoa Joe has revealed that he is dealing with another legitimate injury. While promoting the new season of his Peacock series, Twisted Metal, Joe disclosed that he suffered a fractured ankle during filming. This revelation adds another layer to his current absence from AEW television. It was recently revealed that he is also in the company's concussion protocols following a post-match attack at the All In: Texas pay-per-view. Samoa Joe: "Limping Through It" In a new interview with Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Samoa Joe explained the ironic circumstances of his ankle injury. After a day of performing "crazy driving stunts," he suffered the fracture while doing a simple hop out of a car. "It was just parking, and I had to hop out the back on some really rocky, busted-up asphalt. I turned my ankle and spent the rest of the season taping it up and limping through it," Joe said. His decision to work through the pain is a testament to the toughness that has defined his legendary career. "Spending enough time in the ring as I have, it's no new territory," he added. Courtesy of AEW Samoa Joe's Compounded Problem This fractured ankle is now compounded by the concussion he reportedly suffered at the All In pay-per-view on July 12th. After his team, The Opps, successfully defended their Trios Titles, they were ambushed by the Death Riders faction. The angle ended with Joe being stretchered out of the arena. It now appears that the storyline attack also resulted in a legitimate concussion. Joe is currently recovering from both injuries simultaneously. More news: WWE Superstar Announces Retirement Match Samoa Joe has built a multi-decade career on a reputation as one of the most legitimately tough and physical performers in the business. From his iconic, dominant reigns as ROH World Champion and TNA World Champion to his runs as NXT and AEW World Champion, the "Samoan Submission Machine" has always been known for his hard-hitting, realistic style. His willingness to continue filming a physically demanding role like Sweet Tooth while dealing with a fractured ankle is just the latest chapter in his legendary story of grit and determination. Revenge On The Horizon Despite the dual injuries, Joe has made it clear that he will be back in an AEW ring "sooner than later." In the interview, he stated that once he has cleared all "various medical protocols," he will be "back to business." That business is likely revenge on the Death Riders for the attack that put him on the shelf. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

Jimmy Kimmel obtained Italian citizenship in case he needs to flee second Trump administration: 'It's so much worse'

Rosie O'Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres previously revealed that they left the U.S. for the U.K. after Donald Trump's reelection. If worse comes to worst, Jimmy Kimmel definitely has options. The late-night host, who has been a vocal detractor of President Donald Trump throughout his first and second term in office, recently shared that if he ever needs out of the country, he already has an exit plan. While joining his ex-girlfriend, Sarah Silverman, on her podcast last week, the comedian discussed the drastic reaction that some have had to Trump's return to the White House. "A lot of people I know are thinking about, where are they going to get citizenship?," Silverman observed. "I did get Italian citizenship," Kimmel replied. "I do have that." Addressing Trump's presidency, he continued, "What's going on is... as bad as you thought it was gonna be, it's so much worse. It's just unbelievable. I feel like it's probably even worse than [Trump] would like it to be." According to the Italian news agency Ansa, Kimmel secured Italian citizenship earlier this year after proving his ancestral lineage (his maternal great-grandparents emigrated to New York from Naples after an 1883 earthquake devastated their hometown, Ischia). Should he actually put that citizenship to use by relocating to Italy, Kimmel would join a growing list of celebs who have opted not to live in the U.S. now that Trump is back in office. Rosie O'Donnell, who famously has an acrimonious relationship with the president, revealed earlier this year that she fled the country for Ireland ahead of Trump's inauguration. "I knew after reading Project 2025 that if Trump got in, it was time for me and my non-binary child to leave the country," she told CNN in April. "It's as bad as they promised and even a little bit worse, and it's been heartbreaking and personally very sad to watch." Trump has since threatened to revoke O'Donnell's citizenship. (According to a Harvard analysis, Trump has no constitutional authority to do so.) In addition to O'Donnell, former daytime host Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi have relocated to the U.K. countryside. "We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis," DeGeneres revealed in July. "And we're like, 'We're staying here.'" Much like O'Donnell, Kimmel's tendency to question and bash the President have not gone unnoticed. Following news that CBS would be axing The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Trump boasted that Kimmel would be next on the chopping block. "The word is, and it's a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and, shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone,' Trump wrote on TruthSocial last month. "These are people with absolutely NO TALENT, who were paid Millions of Dollars for, in all cases, destroying what used to be GREAT Television. It's really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it!"Kimmel responded to Trump on Instagram: "I'm hearing you're next. Or maybe it's just another wonderful secret," he wrote, referencing a Wall Street Journal story, published July 17, which claims Trump sent a letter to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003 that was included in a birthday album of well-wishes.
